What are you trying to do and what is the issue?  Are you seeing an error message?

There is a message saying to reinstall because the default layouts were not downloaded. I reinstalled and still nothing. I can take a screenshot when I get home if that will help. Thanks

A screenshot would definitely be helpful.  I'm not aware of any messages anywhere in the software that would tell you to reinstall.

I was using my phone to take the picture. I hope it’s clear.

Ah, version 2.  No wonder I couldn't find that message.  It was removed years ago.

What you are seeing is likely the result of installing version 3.  Since all versions use the same data store, when you install and run version 3 the application will install all of the updated templates into your data store, overwriting the version 2 templates.  Version 2 won't understand these templates, as the formats have been changed.  So when you now load up version 2, it can't read the default layout, and thus you'll see this message.  You'll probably get an error whenever you try to load other sample templates, too (not sure if all of them were changed in version 3, but I know the default layout template was changed).

Anyway, it doesn't get fixed, even with a reinstall, because the code that copies the templates from the install location to your data store does the copy based on timestamps of the files.  Since version 3 files have a newer timestamp than version 2 files, it assumes they are "better", and doesn't overwrite them.  To force the application to overwrite them, do this:

- Start the Tournament Director software version 2.  You must have at least version 2.5.14 installed.  If you have an earlier version, download the latest version 2: http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/downloadVersion2.html

- In the Settings window, select the Preferences tab

- Press the "Data Stores" button

- On the line that says "Active", right-click and select "Initialize"

- On the dialog that opens, check the box next to "Always overwrite existing files"

- Press the OK button.  You should see a message that says "The data store has been initialized."

- Exit the Tournament Director application and start it again
