Ran my first tourney in a long while tonight and had this issue, was able to fix it later with the patches.

Corey, you may want to "sticky" this thread so it appears at the top of the support section.

I'm still driving Win XP. Newest laptop is a MacBook. Sooooo... the patches do not want to cooperate and play nicely with XP apparently.  Any possibility of installing the previous version and simply continue to drive what - for me - is a SUPERB version of TD?

That didn't even occur to me, but now that you mention it ... yeah, I believe Microsoft finally officially ended support for XP so there aren't any XP versions of those patches.  But if that's the case, it's interesting that you would even run into this issue, since it was originally caused by a patch, which wouldn't have been available for XP.  Right?

Looking at the knowledge base page for the update that caused the issue (http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2962872), I see that it affects Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, and Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1.  No mention of an update for Windows XP.  I wonder why you would even experience this on XP?

I am still having some issues with TD being very slow.

We have the database paging option open to allow multiple pages.  I uninstalled the KB update back before the two new updated KB updates referenced on the updated page.  We are running windows 7 and we are running TD in compatibility mode.  Yesterday, it had been set to run in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2 (not sure when that was done) so I took it out of compatibility mode and it did not improve response times so I put it back to compatibility mode for XP service pack 3 this time and saw real improvement.  However, today it is running slow again and is still in compatibility mode for XP service pack 3 and I am at my end on this.

CPU is only using around 20% and physical memory is between 50-60%.

Taking the seconds off of the currenttime token, did not help speed it up either.  Also it seems to have "lost" the settings for when a second display is open and is opening the dialog screen on the second monitor, which can be fixed through the preferences.

For anyone following along, rueuta has contacted me via email regarding this issue.  If anything is found that may be of help to others, I'll post a follow-up.

Hi,

I tried all solution proposed here, i tried Win 7, Win 8, and Win 8.1... nothing worked. still loosing performance, up to a point where TD is non-responsive at all.

I tried physical machines and VM with all OS above, patched or NOT (bare install from the ISO... without any Updates installed).

I tried the patches, nothing works... i am unable to run a tournament anymore with this software at all.

Now i am trying a WinXP VM, but if it doesn`t work, i will be forced to use another software because this is not something that happened before (we took a year break from our league).

There must be something else...

BTW, do you have anything in the works for Windows 10? Because Microsoft announced this week that they are dropping Internet Explorer, and it will not be part of Windows 10, so it will be replaced. I know your software rely on IE, but what will happen with it once Windows 10 doesn`t have IE anymore?

Mostly nobody uses IE anymore... Is there any alternatives going on? Because those kinds of issues are a bummer... and since there is no future for IE, i hope you have a plan.

Thanks for helping out!

So far, it seems to be working with a Windows XP VM....

But i really wonder what could be the problem, i have those patches on all my PC's and still have the problem on all my PC's (slow down to a crawl).

Anyway... i have a work around with the Win XP VM... my only problem is that my Serial doesn't register on the VM and it has internet access...

I will investigate that tommorow, and if i still can't register, i will open a ticket i guess...

Honestly it's surprising to me that this is an issue at all for anyone anymore.  Since this was positively identified by MS and a patch created, and most people receive automatic updates from Windows, this should be a non-issue.  My guess is that you are experiencing a different issue.  What's more interesting is that you experience it on different versions of Windows.

(bare install from the ISO... without any Updates installed).

Since this issue was without any doubt caused by a specific Windows update, by definition a bare OS install with no updates can't experience this issue.  It has to be something else.  It sounds pretty far-fetched to me, but since you experience it on all of your VMs, perhaps it's something on the host OS?

MS isn't really dropping IE.  The browser's plumbing will remain, and they'll be installing a new browser.  Not really though.  It's the same one.  Just a different name.

Feels that way to me sometimes, too, but IE still has the highest market share of any browser on the planet.  Depends on who you ask, I guess, but regardless it's still a long way from no one using it.

The licensing server will limit how many PCs your license can be installed on at any one time.  But it accommodates moving the license.  As long as your PC is online, you can remove the license and it will essentially de-register that PC.  (Settings window -> Game tab -> Register button -> Remove License button)  If you get stuck, just email me (support@thetournamentdirector.net) and I can deactivate all PCs at once.

I was having the issue under windows 7 and attempted he patches as suggested with no success. I bought a new computer with windows 10 installed, did a fresh install of TD and the issue remains.  So what's the story.  It gets pretty frustrating pretty quick.  I have used this software for a very long time and still think it is one of the best but may have to go looking for something new.  It just gets unusable.

Solution please!

I wish I had one.  I understand how frustrating this can be.  I know I've said it before, but I assure you there's no one more frustrated about it than me.  All I can promise is to keep working on it.

Not sure if I'm experiencing the same thing or something a bit different, but my system runs fine except it doesn't always register a key press. For example last night I was editing the 'Rules' and had to be extremely careful because it kept missing letters out.
It's the same for shortcuts to knock out players or pause the clock, I often have to click 3-4 times before it registers, it's weird.

It also seems to affect the rest of the system when TD is running. I use Brackets for html work, and use it to create displays for TD3, it responds slowly as well if TD3 is running, infact any program that allows typing responds very slowly/intermittently to keyboard presses, but when i close TD3 everything returns to normal.
It's a bit of a ball ache, but not exactly a 'throw my toys out of the pram and switch software' size issue  ;)

I should add I'm on windows 10 laptop, with Explorer 11!
Any ideas

Still working on identifying this.  Seems that upgraded PCs are experiencing this, but fresh installs of Win10 are not.

I'm experiencing the problem as Benn. TD3 doesn't always register a key press. Very annoying. I also run Windows 10. Would it help to go back to another Windows version?

It might, but I don't know for sure and rolling back the operating system is asking a lot of someone so I can't possible officially recommend it.
