Beta Testing / Re: 3.7 BETA 3
« on: November 12, 2019, 02:02:23 PM »
2. I was able to open the 3.4.3 version of the software but was warned that it could not [load | find] my preferences.
Expected.  New version will make necessary changes to certain formats, so some saved files won't be compatible with earlier versions.  Once you run 3.7.X, your preferences will be updated and 3.4.3 won't understand them.  Backup is recommended.
I think, as you surmise, this affected the rest of my issues.

5. Using BETA 3, when trying to Configure a new Custom Prize file, I was only presented with a file browse option.  It appears I have to manually configure the xml file to actually configure this prize profile.
Not sure what you mean here.  Of course when you want to use a custom prize file, you'll have to locate it using the file browser.  Is it that you are unable to locate your custom prize file?
Hmmmm... This may be something you can chalk up to me being older and dumber.  When presented with "only" a a browse prompt, I didn't even think to actually click into a file to actually open and edit it.  My bad. :-[  I had expected an "edit" prompt, I suppose.

Overall the software is soooo much better than the 3.4.3 we suffered through.  Thank you kindly for the update (and there isn't a rest of this sentence).

Now that I'm setting up for today's tournaments, I have some comments.  Corey, please do not feel obligated to respond to these as they are (likely) just observations.

1. I was able to open the BETA 3 version of the software and see my old tournaments and layouts just fine.
2. I was able to open the 3.4.3 version of the software but was warned that it could not [load | find] my preferences.
3. Upon looking more deeply at the BETA 3 software, I noticed that on the Game tab, the Controls -> Alerts button was highlighted and that a custom sound associated with my events was could no longer be found.
4. Using BETA 3, when trying to use my custom Suggest Prize file, it could no longer be found and the software defaulted to its inherent Suggest Prize file.
5. Using BETA 3, when trying to Configure a new Custom Prize file, I was only presented with a file browse option.  It appears I have to manually configure the xml file to actually configure this prize profile.

More to come, I'm sure.

If ... the original seating chart history is available for a completed tournament, I'd love a heads-up as to how to find it.

The software does not preserve all seating assignments and moves.  It can get really messy when we think about including manually moved players and players that have been removed from the tournament.  That's not necessarily why it isn't preserved, it was just never thought to be something that would be useful.  To an extent moves are saved, in that there's an undo/redo feature, but that isn't saved with your tournament.  It's really just meant to help guard against mistakes.

I don't recall when I added it, but initial seating is listed in the Tournament History.  Looking at the changes.txt file, it seems it was added way back in version 2.5, so a looong time ago (way before 2012, but looking at this post history it doesn't look like I gave an answer; likely at the time I had forgotten it was there).  Later in version 3.2 I added player movement (as a preference I think).  And then in 3.4 I added some more preferences.

I can understand why seating changes are not preserved with the tournament files.  Other than the case of an extremely arcane complaint after a tournament, I can't think why folks may want to look back on that data.

You state that initial seating is preserved in the Tournament History.  How would I go about accessing that information?

Thank you,
-Neal

Suggestions / Re: rebuy/add-on - original positions
« on: March 31, 2018, 01:09:06 PM »
I came on this thread because the OP contains the terms "original seat".  I see Corey responded that as of 2012 there is no way to see the original seating chart at the start of the tournament.  (I have already looked through the 3.4.3 software to see if this history was preserved, but was unable to find it.)

If I'm mistaken and the original seating chart history is available for a completed tournament, I'd love a heads-up as to how to find it.

The genesis of my inquiry is that I'm trying to do some data mining after the fact.  Certain players claim to always start on a specific table (no big deal to me, but not so for them).  Additionally, I manually adjust seating for certain players for specific issues (larger players prefer "end" seats; spaced-out players get moved from the center seats) and I'd like to ensure that specific players don't always end up in specific seats (i.e., my most helpful player _always_ ends up in the direct center).

I'm pretty surprised to find this isn't available inherently.  I see the suggestion in this thread to immediately save my tournament file under a different name to preserve the original seating, but that doesn't help me now with my data mining of past tournaments.

Please let me know if I'm missing a current capability of the software, and if it's not already in there, then let this note be a reiteration of a new functionality from the original post.

Thank you,
-Neal

Help Me / Re: rebuy OR add-on, not both . . . . option for this?
« on: January 09, 2018, 06:45:39 PM »
I'd use this function as well.  Our Standard Tournament allows unlimited rebuys OR one add-on (for those lucky few who didn't have to rebuy).

Beta Testing / Re: OOPS

I generate this error when my iframe calls a .html file which isn't properly created with my .php script.  *I* know what's going on (the reason for the error is because the .xml file which the php script calls is not fully populated, so due to the null cells the script dies and the html page craps out), but didn't realize that I was spamming the error logs on the server.  I'll generate a new error every time my screen set changes (every 20-40 seconds, depending) as that's how I ping my html file to see if a new song is playing.

If you see this error generating from my account, feel free to ignore!

Suggestions / Re: Add new Property Set to all Tokens on a Screen?
« on: November 07, 2013, 08:38:30 PM »
This took me a while to digest, until I figured out you are referring to Cells when you said Tokens.
Ack!  You, of course are correct.  I tried to be precise with my language, too. :(

I don't always think of ways to improve it because I don't really do a lot of layout design.
Totally understand.  I'm the same way with tools I support in my day job.  Rare that developers have the same experiences as end-users.

Quote
Basically you had to add a new Property Set to all of the Cells that were displayed in your layout.  The Property Sets were essentially the same: use these [same] Conditions so the Property Set is displayed at the appropriate time, and use this Global Property Set to define how the cell looks.
Add a new Property Set to all Cells on a layout display, each firing under the same Condition.  I actually had different a large number of Global Properties of formatting to apply to these new Property Sets, but there's nothing wrong with having the option to apply a specific Global Property to all.  It would also have been fine if it had just copied the Global Property which had been used in the Cell's default Property Set.

Quote
So you had to edit a Cell, add a new Property Set, set the Property Set's Conditions, set the Property Set to use a particular Global Property Set, set the Property Set's Contents, and finally move the Property Set to the appropriate position (order within the other Property Sets).  Repeat for every Cell (10 or 20 times, I would presume).  That, most definitely, is tedious.
My display has about 50 Cells, with roughly a dozen different Global Properties spread amongst them.  I spent two hours to get half way done, lost all work due to a TD3 crash without save (ran out of memory), then spent about 60 minutes to recreate what had been done and to apply my changes to the remaining Cells.  I also have two Screens within my Screen Set which upped the total number of Cells.  (I also have an iframe which accesses a web page on my local server which uses Brandon Fuller's "Now Playing" script which generates a XML file containing data of the song currently playing in iTunes, which then generates an HTML page through PHP -- which required some changes to match the formatting.)

Quote
One difficulty is that the Cell's Contents will be different, and another is that the Property Group might be in a slightly different order for each Cell (but likely similar if not the same).  Regardless, just getting the new Property Set to every Cell would be a big win.  I wonder if it would be enough to add a "Copy Multiple" button on the Cell dialog that allowed you to pick all of the Cells to which you would like to copy the current Property Set.  There could be a shortcut for selecting all of the cells on the current screen (for example).
That's a great implementation idea.  Make it a toggle to just copy the default Global Property for each cell.  Put the new Property Set at the top of the stack (as it's likely to fire under the most restrictive conditions of any of the Property Sets within the Cell.

Let me know if I got that right.  I'll have to explore it a little bit to see if it's feasible.
Boy, I sure hope you can implement something like this in 3.3, that'd be fantastic and I'd be tempted to say (again), "You're the best, Corey." 8)

Suggestions / Add new Property Set to all Tokens on a Screen?
« on: November 02, 2013, 12:12:57 PM »
This may not be something folks are clamoring for, but from my (ignorant!) perspective it seems like it may be a simple coding addition, and would have saved me hours this morning.  (I.e., if I were in full control, I'd have coded my tool to do this job rather than brute force it the first time through.)

I would like the ability to add a new Property Set to all Tokens which appear in a Screen (or by Screen Set).  I'd be fine if this new Property Set copied all properties from each Token's default.  Finally, I'd like to set the Condition under which this new "global" Property Set applies.

In terms of an example, I'm converting a No Limit-only tournament layout to a tournament during which alternating rounds are played NL and Fixed Limit.  To keep my players sane, I'm using a radically different color scheme for each Game Type.  After creating new Global Properties for each element with my new color scheme, I had to go into each token on the Screen and add a "FL" Property Set with the Condition that Game Type is Limit.  I'd then copy the token's default formatting and manually select from my list of newly created Global Properties which one I wanted.  This last step would take a significant amount of coding and I wouldn't request that portion be automated, but the initial steps involve a lot of repetitive mouse clicks which seem easily automated (says the guy who would not be doing any of the coding).

This sort of thing would come up any time someone would want to drop in a new global condition on their tournament displays (such as different Screens for alternating rounds).  If there's any thought to adding to the list of potential Game Types, then this sort of thing seems very like to crop up for other folks in the future.

Thank you for your consideration Corey.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / WSOP FT Layout
« on: July 26, 2013, 08:31:22 PM »
We are running a simulated WSOP main event final table (folks submitted silent bids via email, and the nine highest bids get the November Niner's corresponding chip stacks and table position, levels set to 1/4 scale the actual clock).

A shout out to this thread for the background image.

Also, not sure if others would be able to use all the elements of my layout, as I've got a marquee scroll across the bottom of the page which pings a local webserver which has a PHP script that converts a XML output file generated by the Now Playing visualizer (in iTunes) that ultimate displays the currently playing track from the local music server.  It would be very easy to disable this particular screen element, however.

Finally, this is my first upload of a layout, so I'm not 100% on whether things properly exported.

Hope someone else can find value in this!

Suggestions / Re: Status Update by URL
« on: November 03, 2012, 01:59:32 PM »
The next step will be to add a lot more data, using a different format (probably JSON).  The current format was easy to implement in a quick fashion, but it's very limited.

What sort of things can we (currently) pass through TDStatus.Vars?  I'm assuming the idea of pulling points from the database and adding current points earned in a live tournament (on a per-player basis) isn't yet available?

Suggestions / Re: Break Duration
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:47:47 PM »
format="HM" does work but displays as 0h 15m, I note in your previous post it works for you just displaying 15m, you any idea how I can get rid of the "0h" part?

Not until 3.2.  I've got a to-do item to enhance HM to be HMS and recognize upper- versus lower-case.  Upper means always display, lower means display only if non-zero.  (And missing means don't display at all, so "HM" would mean always display hours and minutes, but never seconds, whereas "hmS" would mean always display seconds, and only display minutes if non-zero, and only display hours if non-zero).

Fantastic!  The extra work to do it this way will be utilized by me.
