General Discussion / FGWP Fun Game I Want to Play
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:33:01 PM »
I was listening to an older Top Pair Podcast and they suggested a great tournament idea that I want to create. Unfortunately I won't be able to do it for a few months but I think it will be a lot of fun

This NL Holdem tournament is based off the November Nine. Basically after the main event from WSOP breaks when it gets its final table we will know who the players are and what their chipstacks will be when they reconvene in November to play the rest of the game. So our game is based off those same chip stacks, and possibly the same position. But who gets who's chips? This will be decided by a silent auction. All nine contestants will make a private bid on how much he/she thinks the chip stacks are worth. The person with the highest bid gets the biggest chip stack, second gets second biggest and so on. That money that is bidded will become the prize pool. I think this will make an incredibly fun and unpredictable series of events that should make for a fun game.

If you think about last November Nine, Davin Moon had such a massive chip stack that it would be worth establishing a lot of money to secure his chip stack, but you will be competing against others to get that chip stack, this might drive the prize pool WAAAAYYYY up. Also some people may want to play for a chip and a chair and only bid $1 to get the lowest chip stack and take thier chances...

General Discussion / PodCasts
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:19:56 PM »
I got an iPod Touch for Christmas and ever since I have been addicted to pod casts. I listen to them all the time and use my iPod for podcasts over music now. If you don't know what a podcast is, it is a pre-recorded series of audio or video segments that usually have a common theme. Think of podcasts as pre-recorded talk radio stations that focus on specific themes. There are quite a few poker related podcasts. I have just found one for the home games and I wanted to share this with all of you, since a lot of us use The Tournament Director for our home games. Go to Toppair.net to get the podcast episodes and also their forum to interact with the hosts. They talk about alot of different things that I have incorporated personally for my home games and even more that I would like to start doing. It is a very slick professionally made broadcast that I think people here would really enjoy.

Btw, you don't need an iPod to listen to the broadcast, you can listen to them right off the computer. Another podcast that I listen to religiously is the 2 plus 2 pokercast. You can search them on iTunes or you can listen to their podcast on their forums. 2 plus 2 pokercast link. They deal with lots and lots of poker issues, news and celebrities. They have great interviews with all the famous poker pros like Daniel Negranau, Phil Laak, Mike Sexton and more, plus interviews with a lot of up and coming online poker players.

If you listen to podcasts, why don't you make some suggestions, I still have some spare time in my day where I can listen to some new content

General Discussion / UPT please read
« on: March 15, 2008, 11:26:08 AM »
I was looking at your website, and you got a really good group going there. I was just wondering how you paid for the grand prize entry's into a major tournament? Does that come out of your pocket?

Along the same lines, have you tried to see if the major tournament prize that you give out could be donated by the casino hosting it. With so many season's under your belt, you have definitely given that casino some free advertising, they might be willing to give up a seat to such a well organized league. I'm wondering if you tried that and what was the conversation between you and the casino.

Suggestions / The use of Alternates
« on: February 29, 2008, 07:33:47 AM »
ie. http://thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=1115.0

I was looking at this post for alternates and points and I think I may have come up with a suggestion. There are now two post asking about alternates, so maybe this is something that people will see more of in the future.

Right now, TD awards points to individual player when they do something. Player A goes out in the 5th round in third place, he gets points. Player B takes out Player C, and player B gets hitman points and Player C gets points for such and such place.

What if TD could award points to all players still in the tournament? So Player B takes out Player A and 10 points will go to Players B through F as well as an extra 10 points to Player B for hitman. Player A does not get anymore points.

In the formula test area a new plug would be "Current number of players"
The part I'm having trouble getting my head around is how to get an action to acknowledge all players still in tourny

General Discussion / The Royal Flush
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:00:14 AM »
Just wanted to share a story I thought was pretty exciting. Earlier this week I'm playing in Hubble's freeroll tourny on Pokerstars and I caught my first Royal Flush ever. I was so excited I took a screenshot. Click here to view it
Didn't make too much off it but it was exciting to finally get the coveted royal flush!

And then, last night playing my saturday night home tourny, I was short stacked, went all in pre-flop with A Q of clubs, was called and got a 10c on flop, Kc on turn, and Jc on river to get runner runner runner royal freakin flush... two of them within a week... wow... just a wee bit excited LMAO.... oh yeah, and after that I got great momentum and ended second out of 17

General Discussion / Chris "Jesus" Ferguson
« on: August 12, 2007, 10:45:42 AM »
I just started playing again at Full Tilt poker and there are lots of celebrities that play there, and I ran across this one that I thought was really cool, and wanted to share.

Basically Chris Ferguson has set a challenge for himself to see if you can start with nothing and make something of it. So, with only a full tilt account, he played freerolls until he made a couple dollars and then utilizing smart bankroll management he has almost reached his goal: $10,000. When he does reach his goal he said he will donate it all to charity. Pretty cool scenario, eh... read about it here: http://w.fulltiltpoker.com/chris-ferguson-challenge

BTW, I hope this post is not interpreted as spam, I don't endorse any kind poker sites. If you are really against it then you can get the gist of the challenge on this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Ferguson

Help Me / PokerStars 20% prize payouts
« on: April 06, 2007, 01:12:33 PM »
Well working on a different post http://thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=698.0 I had a kind of idea and wanted some help with it. Basically, I think what Hemi wanted was the program's formula function to figure out his prizes. I don't think thats what the formula was supposed to do.

It got me thinking though. Say I wanted more versatility and do put my own prize formula in. How would I do that . For example, I wanted to copy PokerStars 20% prize payout, so it would be similar to this: http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/rules/prize-structure/

Is there a way to do this now or should I be writing this in the suggestions section?

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Creating buttons in Layouts
« on: February 10, 2007, 04:35:05 PM »
I noticed that there were a couple of Layouts with buttons that you can click to put addons rebuys and to bust people out. Segundo and Didray both had them on their layouts. I was wondering exactly how that was done. I don't want to keep explaining how to press X to the other players and I think that is a great addition. Can you use other kinds of buttons too, so that it will blend with background a bit better?

Help Me / Table Question
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:46:27 AM »
We have 8 seats set up for tables on the tables tab. Some nights we will add a couple chairs to make 10 seats. If we want to make one table when there are only 6 players left in the tournament, where do we choose this option. I have tried looking for this and I can't find it. I remember being able to do this in the first tournament director, so I'd be quite surprised if you can't do this in this one, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out... thanks

Suggestions / Tournament Director Wizard
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:31:53 AM »
You know, I think a wizard would be really helpful in setting up a tournament. There are a lot of people that get overwhelmed with the prospect of going through all the tabs. If they could just answer questions pertaining to the tournament and away they go, I think that would be great.

I'd like to try to explain it a bit better. I foresee a wizard option that when clicked a series of option/choice windows will appear and based on these choices a tournament will be created. I know its pretty straight forward to us when we set up a tournament, but I think this would give new users and computer nervous people confidence that they are on the right track. When the wizard is over, the user is guaranteed to have a working tournaments based on their choices. An example where I think it would really benfit is when setting up the layout style. A screenshot of the different stock layouts can be displayed and radio buttons to choose which one is proffered. A check box option to check all the choices that user wants to use for his layouts can be on the next slide. There isn't as much customizing but I don't think that matters all that much to a new user.

I had this idea from that post in the layouts section where the new user wanted a great layout for that night's tournament but he was new. I feel with a wizard he could have created his own custom tournament and would have been confident in the way he wants to run it...

thats my lil suggestion

Suggestions / Sounds upload
« on: January 17, 2007, 07:45:03 AM »
I've decided to customize the sounds for touranment director and the first time I did it, I did not save it. Now I have to upload the 50 sound bytes again, and I'm thinking that there should be an easier way for the program to recognize sound files. Possibly a drag n drop feature or to load multiple files at once
