Inoperable PC
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:00:40 AM »

A PC on which was installed TD failed. I'll buy a new PC.
How do I install and activate TD on this new PC knowing that TD is already installed on 2 other PCs.
Of course, i admit,  have permanently lost unsaved data of my tournaments.

First thing to realize is that the license agreement indicates a personal license may be installed on up to 3 PCs.  What [admittedly] isn't perfectly clear is that this doesn't mean a *total* of 3 PCs.  It actually means 3 PCs at any given time.  Any time you use a license on a PC, that license will be "active" on that PC for the next 60 days.  It isn't permanent.  This means that if you don't use a license on a PC for 60 days, the licensing system essentially "forgets" about it.  So, one of your 3 PCs will simply "drop out" of use all by itself after 60 days, allowing you to install the license on another PC.

Another thing to know is that removing your license from a PC deactivates it in the licensing system (Game tab -> Register button -> Remove License button).  If your license is installed on 3 PCs and you need to move one from one PC to another, you can uninstall the license from one PC and then you should be able to install it on a new PC.  Note that this is only true for version 3 licenses.  Removing a version 2 license doesn't free up the PC from the licensing system.

Of course, sometimes you can't remove the license, because a PC becomes inoperable for some reason.  In that case, just send me an email and I can reset the license.  Happens all the time and I'm happy to do it.

Hi mm,
in which way did your computer fail? if your hard drive did not fail it is very easy to retrieve all your data from the H/D. If your H/D is still okay I can recommend a very quick way of retrieving your data.
Visit the website I will link to below (from a working computer) and download and burn the disk image to a dvd or USB key. boot your computer with the dvd or usb key and select trial. this will run ubuntu (a flavor of linux). from there you can browse to your hard drive and copy the data store to a usb key.

hope this helps
Jody

Thank's Corey, that's reassured me waiting for my new PC.
jodybingo o, thank's for your link. Unfortunately, my HD is completely unrecoverable.
