Help Me / Re: TD.exe a Threat?

I'm running Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update.  Maybe that's the difference?

FWIW, I put in a work around where I told Windows Defender to exclude C:\Program Files (x86)\The Tournament Director 3

So, Corey, I'm really trusting you not to pull a CCleaner and include malware in your software!

I am also having this problem on 3.4.1, but it's coming from Windows Defender Security Center on Win10.

Help Me / Add Player to tournament search scope?
« on: August 09, 2014, 10:40:56 AM »
Waaay back when I was using TD V2 (last month) when I added a player to a tournament, I could click on the "Add Player" button. A dialog box would come up that defaulted to the league of the tournament in question. Underneath would be a search dialog. When I entered names in that dialog it would search not just the league, but the entire database. This was really helpful as we always have several non-league members play with us.

However, in V3 when I do this same thing, the search is restricted to the league. Is there some way to expand the scope of this search? I had thought that disabling "Strict Search" in Preferences -> Behavior would do it, but it doesn't.

This is a minor inconvenience but, I was wondering if there's some way to get the "Add Player" dialog to function the same as it did in V2. Alternatively is there a way to get the "add player" dialog box to automatically come up with "<All>" as the default league?

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: chips token misaligned

This is what it looks like in V2.

Yeah I tried reducing the width and that worked, but I didn't like how it looked overall. So I'm just going to leave it like this for now.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / chips token misaligned

I use the chips token as follows.

Code: [Select]
<chips size="60" columns="5" width="150" values="bottom">

Unfortunately, the labels are not centered as shown in the screenshot. Is there something I can do to get them centered? This same token (configured identically) worked with the labels centered in V2, but in V3 they're offset as shown below. Anything I can do to fix this?

Help Me / Re: TD 2.5.14 all the sudden crashy
« on: July 14, 2014, 11:31:50 PM »
Yeah I found and followed this advice and it seems to have fixed it.

That said, I'm not entirely convinced even though I can't seem to get it to crash any more. First, I had been on IE11 for quite some time. I don't remember how long but several months. And last week was the first time it got so crashy. Also, I tried doing the same things in V3 that would cause a crash in V2 and I couldn't crash V3 while I could (eventually) crash V2.

But as I don't use IE at all (chrome) I'm happy to let this remain an unsolved mystery and keep my IE version as 10.

Is there a way to determine before the next break whether or not it's a chip-up break? Basically in the "Next Antes / Blinds" area of my layout I want to display:

    Next: Break! Chip-up

When the break is a chip-up break and

    Next: Break!

When it's not. I think I can tell if the next round is a break by setting this condition:

   isRound and (not nextIsRound)

But I want to get a condition for determining when the nextround is also a chip-up round? Is there a test for that?

Help Me / Re: No players in Player DB
« on: July 13, 2014, 07:15:23 AM »
I'm not going to answer for that guy, but I saw the same thing. Here's the sequence of events:

1) Create players using V2 - set league membership.
2) Launch V3, load those players into a tournament, exit.
3) Launch V2

When I do this, I can see the players in the database, but their league memberships are lost.

What version are you running? I have both version 3 and version 2 installed on my system. And I have seen this problem in version 2 when I've saved Default.tlo from version 3. It would appear to me that the V3 tlo files are not compatible in V3.

Help Me / Re: TD 2.5.14 all the sudden crashy

A couple of additional pieces of data.

  • Crashes only happen after players are bought-in and seated
  • I have not been able to determine a predictable crash scenario, but it happens most often when I change between tabs on settings window. So after I discovered this problem, I was able to get through the tournament by just staying on the controls tab
  • Autosave was really helpful. Whenever there was a crash, the first thing I'd do is reload the tournament from the Game tab, then turn on autosave, and go to the controls tab. Then restart the tournament from pretty much the last point - althouth wiith maybe a little extra added time

Help Me / TD 2.5.14 all the sudden crashy
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:38:27 AM »
Ok. I'm going to start this post saying that, yeah I know TheTD is up to version 3.3. I can't upgrade yet (see below for explanation).

Anyway, all of the sudden during last night's club tournament, TheTD got really crash happy. Any time I moved around on the settings window (e.g. between the controls tab and the game tab), I'd get a crash that looked like the attached screenshot.

Additionally, it would frequently slow down to unusable levels, where just clicking on a check box would take 15 seconds before the click was registered. Or typing a name in a search box took a 30-40 seconds. (I did notice that when things were really slow, the CPU on mshta.exe was pegged.)

This problem wasn't happening in last month's tournament. In between then and now, I made the following changes:

  • I added a new season for our league
  • I set our tournament template.tdt to default to the new season
  • I added a 25-25 round
  • I modified the events to add the 25-25 round announcement
  • I modified the layout to undisplay the prizes element

Fortunately, using dropbox for my saves, I can go back to the tournament template.tdt that I was using prior to making the above changes and see if that's the problem. After doing that, I'm still having the same crashy problems with that template.

I'm hopeful that there's something that I can do so that I can continue to use V2. If not, I'm going to have a lot of questions for how to convert to V3... but I'll start that as another thread if it comes to it.

Why I can't upgrade:
There are two people in my club who have a license for TheTD. When I purchased a license, I was able to get a free upgrade to the V3 license. My clubmate has to pay for a V3 license upgrade and hasn't. Until he does, his computer is the backup in case my computer dies. So I'm stuck on v2.5.14 until he upgrades his license.

I just wish there was a way for you to get your preferences file back.

Offtopic, but one of the advantages of using dropbox as a datastore is that it saves 30 days worth of revisions to all files. So that if I accidentally delete something or make a change that I can't remember what I did, I can get back the previous version.

Is there a way to change the default location of preferences so that I could store that on dropbox as well?

Help Me / Re: Central Database & More ?
« on: April 10, 2013, 02:18:36 AM »
What if you had an option to re-read in the entire database before writing to it? That way, you'd incorporate any changes that some other side may have made before you write out something new.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Background Image Blinks
« on: April 08, 2013, 07:07:26 PM »
Understood and no problem.  I usually request a backup because it's the easiest way to reproduce someone's "environment".  Having your specific environment greatly increases the chance that I'll be able to reproduce the issue.  But privacy is important to me, too, so no worries if you'd rather not send that data.  Just send the layout and any associated image files (so you should probably use the layout's Export feature, as it will package it all up in a ZIP file for you).

Well, the good news is that I can't recreate the problem. I swear it was happening and I haven't upgraded since it happened. But I can't recreate it. And I've tried every thing I did before. But the error steadfastly refuses to show itself.

Which is, of course, actually good news.
