Simple Machine Forums has some plug ins that really make it so spam accounts do not sign up. Especially the spam bot accounts. I run two separate SMF sites and the plugin modules cleaned up my spam problem.

Very impressive would you be willing to share your layout and config on the forums I am sure a lot of TD user would appreciate this including myself.


Are you familiar with SMF at all? There really is not much to share other than perhaps a hierarchy of the forums and some of the rules and discipline I use to run them.

Do you have more specific questions I can address?

I registered a domain at GoDaddy and used their hosted 1-Click installs to install the same software used for these forums. I made the website (forums) closed to the public and turned on the calendar function. Each game gets its own thread and is linked to the calendar. Players register in the thread and their registration is considered their commitment to pay. If they welch, they are removed from the site, the league, and are permanently uninvited. In all of our years of running the league, it has never been a problem.

We post a summary from Tournament director as a game report in each thread. It would also be easy to post series and league stats reports in HTML format on the forums.

The SMF forums were very easy to install and configure. There are lots of themes and add-ons. I have not had a problem and the forums open things up for other uses as well. Discussions between your players, a prop bet section for friendly rivalries and side bets and more.

There is a series of games where we want to randomly assign a bounty on a player and have that player's name show on teh main tournament director screen. What is the variable we can use to reference the name seleted on teh prize screen for player bounty?

In this group, the person is so special, their name should be advertised. :)

I did a few searches in the forums and did not find any hits so I thought I would post this.

With all of the questions and how-to posts related to formulas, layouts, running tournaments, etc., it occured to me that a series of short YouTube tutorial videos might be a great addition. I have some production software that allows me to post a video to YouTube, but I do not have a deep understanding of the software nor do I think I have a good way with presenting information.

This would probbaly serve a multitude of purposes.
(1) This would answer may questions for those who learn visually.
(2) It would address many things that a manual cannot, techniques and tips for configuring certain settings & features.
(3) This would likely be a good marketing tool for the software itself.

Videos on YouTube can be up to 100mb each and hosting is free. Curious what other people think about this idea...

I am not sure how many other people may benefit from this.  Currently, I track all of the stats outside of TD to accomodate our league reporting. It would be cool to do it in TD but I can run like this.

I would think that others have a situation like this though. For us, I can accomodate a fixed number of players at our games. For us that number is 16 players at two tables. There are 55 people on our Poker Invite list of which 30 are reasonably active players. When we post a game event, the seats go to the first 16 respondents. One of the benefits of this is we get a different mix of players each poker night. Another benefit is that we consistently sell out so the games are always full and that keeps points allocations even across poker evenings. Some people tend to play their games earlier in the season and some later; largely depends on what is going on in their lives at the time. By taking the Best X of the First Y games, the points are fair when you contract any two players. One with ten games and one who possibly was able to play all 20.

Hope that information gives better rationale to why we set up our points structure this way.

As always, your software is top shelf and adds a real air of professionalism to our poker events. Thanks again for the software and the stellar support you offer on these forums.

Not in the formula, but you can use the filter to filter out all of the tournaments other than the first 10.  You can create a season to do this and assign the first 10 tournaments to that season, or more easily you can just set the start and end dates of the filter appropriately to grab only the first 10 tournaments.

Let me clarify...
Person A plays in Games 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,15
What you suggest above would work.

Person B plays in Games 1,3,4,5,8,9,10,11,12,19,20
Their first 10 games do not happen to coincide with the first 10 games of the season.

That is awesome. The request I have is the following:

In our league, we played 20 games last year. Everyone got to use the Best 7 of their first 10 games.

The Best logic is in place, is there anything I can do to calculate the Best 7 of the FIRST 10 Games played? This will equalize the playing field between frequent and infrequent players.

We have an Access Database that we use to generate reports. (A) Player Stats and Standings Report, (B) League Finance Report, (C) Individual Game Reports. Have not found a way to do this in TD yet. We are looking to have TD export data directly to our Access DB though.

That is great for looking after the Best x of y games but it will not handle the best x of the first y games in a total of z games.
Our players get to use their BEST 7 of their FIRST 10 games. Game 11 and on for each player will never alter their points ranking.

I run a 20 game season and the players get to use their best 7 from their first 10 games. Some corollary to that would help offset frequent players getting a bonus. Works well for us.
