Help Me / Re: Points Question
« on: March 09, 2006, 09:16:23 AM »
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across that "abrupt!"   :(

However, as Corey said, you didn't state that you had tried other formulas or what formula you did try.  You just asked what formula to use.  As that had been answered multiple times, it looked like you didn't bother reading any other post, and I think my response was acceptable.  While I meant for there to be a "oh, I should have looked around" response, I didn't mean to cause a "what a rude SOB, I'm never posting here again" response.

This same question has been asked and answered several times.

It should this:  (n)-(r)+1+(nh)

You can use this website to create spoken wav files.  However, they may sound a bit robotic.

Chuck, when you setup the chips, you likely clicked on a color radio button at the top.  In the middle is where you would select a chip image, instead of a radio button at the top.

No option for no rebuys, no addons, which is how we do it.

Yeah, the cause dawned on me the moment I hit submit.  I was going to delete the post, but then thought someone else might run into the same problem, so left it for prosperity.  ;D

I wanted a formula that would award points based on the number of players, plus a point for each knockout.  That's easy enough.

But I also wanted to award 1st place an additional 5 points, 2nd place 4 points, 3rd place 3 points, 4th place 2 points, and 5th place 1 point.  Nothing below 5th would receive bonus points.

Here's what I came up with:

(n)-(r)+1+(nh)+max(6-(r), 0)

The max part says to take the higher of either 0, or the result of 6-(rank).

6-(rank of 1)=5
6-(rank of 2)=4
6-(rank of 3)=3
6-(rank of 4)=2
6-(rank of 5)=1
6-(rank of 6)=0
6-(rank of 7)= -1, in which case 0 is greater and is used instead.

Whoops..  Nevermind.  Found the problem was the Greek letters I used in the Event Name field.  Apparently it didn't like that.

Thanks Corey.  I was hoping that was how it was.  Of course I understand that the keys can't be shared.  Thanks for being flexible!

Another great cleanup tool is Microsoft's Antispyware.  Actually, it's just been rename to Microsoft Defender.  You can get it here:

Spyware/Adware/Malware junk is the biggest thief of computer resources.  Earthlink recently figured that 70% of all home users have some form of this junk on their computer.

Help Me / Re: Memory
« on: March 02, 2006, 11:12:44 AM »
If you have Windows XP or 2000, I would say 256MB is almost a minimum regardless of what you are running.

If you only have 128, a memory upgrade will result in a performance boost.  Memory is inexpensive, so why not go ahead and upgrade?  I assure you, you will not be disappointed!

(I would go to 512, if you can.)

Of course, Corey's absolutley correct that if your time is 'off' from actual time, that is to say if a second does not equal a second, you've got something wrong other than memory.

If this has been answered somewhere before, I couldn't find it.

I have received my key, but have yet to register the software.

With the prior version of TD, I had it installed on my desktop, where I would create the tournaments.  I also had it installed on my wife's laptop, which I ran the tournament from. The reason I did it this way was because I don't have regular access to the wife's laptop, only durring the tourney.

My question is, am I allowed to use the key on both PC's?  Only one will be in use at any given time.

Excellent!  Thanks!  I'll be adding an extra table on my next tournament, and was really concerned they would not have clear view to a screen.
