Help Me / Re: Scoring help
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:03:30 PM »
Here is the formula I use for my league: I can have over 10,000 points in a 20 game season. Some like to keep points low, we don't! So you can fiddle with the numbers however you want...

By using this formula it will ALMOST GUARANTEE that no 2 players will tie!

Points for Playing formula
(100/n)*(n-r+1)*7+(bc*15)+(finalTable*40)+(nh*25)+switch(r,1,80,2,40,3,20)

25 points for bounty (put this in Prizes tab)

It works like this (bear with me):

(100/n)*(n-r+1) = 100/number of players x number-rank+1 gives you a "percentage"...in a 10 player game, it would be 100 for 1st, 90 for 2nd, 80 for 3rd, down to 10 for 10th...
*7 = basically that formula *7
+(bc*15) = buy-in cost x 15 (say $10 x 15 = 150) (make sure there is a dollar value in the Buy-in column on game tab)
+(finalTable*40) = 40 points for Final Table
+(nh*25) = 25 points for each hit/knockout
+switch(r,1,80,2,40,3,20) = 1st place 80 point bonus, 2nd 40 point bonus, 3rd 20 point bonus

Then, in the stats filter, use:

points      (for the formula above)

in the overall score use

average(scores)

That's it!

Help Me / Re: 50 man tournament
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:47:10 PM »
I am thinking something like this, if I may:

I am throwing this together pretty quick, maybe it can help!

1,500 chips x 60 players = 90,000 (not including rebuy/addons)

Also, I would not add-on chips after the 5th round, this adds more chips to the total and may not thin the field as quickly. Personally, I would advise against it. Rebuy/addon UP TO Round 5 would be fine, given the low chip count and structure.

if lowest chip is $25    (if lowest is $5 chip, then maybe start with 5-10, 10-20, then go to 25-50)

25-50
50-100      20 minute blinds
100-200
break - 10 minutes
150-300
200-400     20 minute blinds
300-600
break - 10 minutes
400-800
500-1000    20 minute blinds
600-1200
break - 10 minutes
800-1600 ante 50
1000-2000 ante 100  blinds are now 15 minutes
2000-4000 ante 200
3000-6000 ante 300
break - 10 minutes
FINAL HOUR - 10 minute blinds
4000-8000 ante 500
5000-10000 ante 1000
6000-12000 ante 2000
10000-20000 ante 4000

In any league/home game I have played in that has a time limit, the final hour goes by fast to:
1. narrow the field
2. end the game on time
3. promote aggressive play

General Discussion / Let it Ride Bonus
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:10:36 AM »
Does anyone know where I can find the (exact) layout for the game "Let it Ride Bonus"? I have searched the web for the exact layout consisting of the 3 card bonus circle and the $1 bonus bet and can't find even a picture of it anywhere. I know Shufflemaster has it registered/trademarked but you'd think there was a photo of one somewhere! I am a big fan of the game and I would love to have a replica of the layout on felt so I can build a tabletop for it. If not, I can draw it out by hand (with some help!). I would prefer to have a pre-made layout, but worse come to worse, I can do it myself. Can anyone help me out?

Help Me / Re: Points and Overall Score Help/Clarification
« on: November 23, 2009, 03:33:43 PM »
Yeah, I believe all you need to do is this... Remove the prizes. Then, in the points for playing, make it look like this:

((1-(r/(n+1)))*112.50)+switch(r,1,#,2,#,3,#)

substitute the # for the bonus points you want. the first # is for 1st, the 2nd # for 2nd place and the 3rd # for third place.

Set the "Tournament Scoring" in your stats filter to    points
Set the "Overall Scoring" in your stats filter to      average(points)

This way whatever points you receive for the points for playing will be in your tournament scoring portion of your formula, and then the overall formula will average out those points across all played tournaments.

This should give you what you want!

Help Me / points for playing and scoring formulas
« on: November 18, 2009, 07:12:33 PM »
I am changing my points formula to

(100/n)*(n-r+1)*7+(bc*10)+(finalTable*40)+(nh*25)+switch(r,1,20,2,10,3,5)

Some of the numbers might change slightly

I also have a 25 point bounty in the "Prizes" tab.

Now my question is this...in the Tournament Scoring part in the Stats Filter, I think I just need to input      Points     and in the Overall Scoring I should leave it as      average(scores)    correct? also, how does the 25 point bounty Prize figure into the tournament points portion of the filter? If it doesn't, that is fine.

I have TDA rules, US Poker Assoc. laws of Poker, etc. etc. I always have those to turn to if I absolutely have to. Appreciate the input!

Appreciate the feedback...the penalties are there more for a deterrent than anything else, really. I doubt I will have to enforce them at all, as I only have 9-12 players in my league, but I do have some new members joining next season.

General Discussion / My Poker League "Rule Book"
« on: November 05, 2009, 11:12:28 PM »
I have, over the past 2 seasons, always informed my players (who don't quite know tournament play) about certain things you can and/or cannot do during the course of a hand or tournament. Also, I have had players come to me saying that they might have caught others cheating (i.e. folding (talking softly) a hand and pushing it away from them a couple inches and getting back in the hand if the flop helps that player's hand when it is thought that no one is looking). Since this is "free" poker (We charge a $2.00 "trophy fund buy-in", as well as the same amount for any re-biys/add-ons), I can't have that going on anyway. Besides, it's pretty sad. Not to mention we are ALL amateurs, but I want to give my players the tournament experience and have fun, but try to weed out the cheaters (which I have, they (2 of them) will not be coming back next year). Therefore, I have come up with my official rulebook. Granted, it might not be exactly like casino rules, but for my league, I think it works out perfect. I have sent a copy to all my members, and am awaiting feedback. If anyone is interested I am posting the word doc on here. It is 18 pages long!

NOTE: when you go to DL the doc, click "YES" to view as a read-only file.

I'd love to hear everyone's feedback!

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / My championship screen
« on: October 28, 2009, 04:46:07 PM »
This is the screen that I am using next month in my No Limit Hold'em Championship game. The one for 7 card stud is very similar. My tournaments are small right now, so there are only 6 champions each. Next season I am looking to have more. My current record is 15. I average around 9 players.

Help Me / Re: Stats

I know this might be a stupid question, but did you save the game after it ended? If the game is not saved, then it will show up in the stats tab as an incomplete game. Just thought I'd mention that.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Looking for sound files
« on: October 14, 2009, 06:58:40 PM »
I created all of my sound files using the at&t text to speech. some words sound a bit off, but for me it works. Here are some examples:

"There is one minutes left in the round. Repeat. One minute left in the round."
"You have finished in sixth place. Five players now remain. Thank you for playing here at Four Aces Poker."
"The blinds have gone up. They are now 1000 and 2000. repeat. The blinds have gone up. they are now 1000 and 2000."
"Level change. the ante goes to 50. the bring in goes to 100. the limits are now 200 and 400. Level change. the ante goes to 50. the bring in goes to 100. the limits are now 200 and 400." (This one for 7 card stud - fixed limit).

I also use one at the start of a tournament. Something like this:

"Welcome to Four Aces Poker event number 5. No Limit Hold'em. Each player begins with 10000 in chips. The 50 point bounty is on (player's name). The blinds will begin at 50 and 100. Good luck to everyone. Let's shuffle up and deal."

Also, during the countdown of the upcoming championship tournaments, I use the countdown event to trigger music files. 2 hours countdown starting at 7199 seconds, the 2nd song begins at the time the first one ends, all the way to zero seconds or as close as possible. Get the first song, say 3 minute song = 180 sec. first event starts at 180. second song starts # of seconds of song after previous song. it takes some effort and some math, but I have done it a few times.

If anyone is interested in some blinds files you can check out at&t text to speech or email me and i can send you a sampling. fouracespoker@yahoo.com

Help Me / Re: tie
« on: October 13, 2009, 05:51:56 PM »
I had this situation come up last season. We had 2 players tie in points and we ended up using the overall score as a tiebreaker. the overall score uses average finishing position across all played tournaments. since one player had a higher overall score than the other, even though the two were tied in points, the player with the higher overall score won the player of the year award. I immediately put it into use as a rule for this season. We have our No Limit Hold'em championship tournament as well as out 7 Card Championship coming up in a few weeks and I have a very real chance of it happening again. This time I am ready for it. If for some reason they Tie with Points AND overall score, then the Tie breaker is who won the most tournaments. If they are STILL tied, they will go heads-up to determine the player of the year.

« on: September 30, 2009, 07:27:45 PM »
i figured it out. i removed the *1000 from the tournament scoring formula, and changed the overall score from the Logarithm method to percentile method   average(scores). this gave me what i was looking for. thanks!
