Help Me / Re: Hitmen when there are Rebuys
« on: October 20, 2006, 02:04:47 PM »
Just dawned on me - this may require a more exact definition of "Hit" and "Knockout" -- perhaps 2 colums shown in stats (one for each).

???

Understood.

But it brings me to a larger (TD-type) question: In the formula crediting process, I believe TD only credits points for a "knockout" (e.g. - only awards points if the player does not rebuy, or is beyond the buy-in period).

Is there a way - in a formula - to award points for both rebought and non-rebought "hits"?  And the stats reflecting ALL hits?

Has this been developed yet?  I first came across the individual stats just the other day, but saw no way of exporting them.  Would LOVE that feature!

Help Me / Re: Bounties

Maybe "Bounties Optional" or "Restrict Bounties to Bounty Holders".  No biggie here... just that - the word "restrict" didn't translate in my mind when I was wanting to "allow" for Bounties.  Once I read up on the definition in the HELP guide, it made it more clear.

The way I bought folks in had nothing to do with it.

My problem was not checking off the "Restrict Bounties" box.  I had evidently done that on the previous tourneys, and didn't realize it.  FYI - I still find the naming of that box a bit confusing, considering its function, but that's neither here nor there...

Help Me / Re: Hitmen when there are Rebuys

Sorry fellas - still disagree.....

If someone rebuys to spite a hit point out of a potential hitman then so be it. I suspect this is unlikely as most people (not all, granted) in a rebuy have some sort of budget before they play - either just a generic "I am willing to do x number of rebuys then I'm out", or "I will keep rebuying until the amount of chips a rebuy brings is a major disadvantage, or the return on my rebuy investment now is poor given the likely payouts". The fella that decides to rebuy when he would have normally quit to spite someone can't occur that often can it? Maybe my tourneys are happier affairs :-)

My point is simply that a person is not "out" if they rebuy - for whatever reason they rebuy. Of course, once the rebuy period ends then it makes no difference. But during the rebuy period, knocking someone out of a tourney more often than not is based more on gambling than skill as people gamble more (quite rightly) to try and amass chips. So the credit for getting someone to rebuy isn't that worthy of adulation (IMHO) - knock them out and sure give 'em a hitpoint.

I do hear what you are saying, but is it really worth keeping a record of who won a dominant all-in situation when there was no actual knockout (which is really what you are suggesting - to record the fact that a bigger chip stack beat a smaller chip stack in an all-in situation without knocking them out)? If there is, then fair enough, but I would then suggest a different field to record that (maybe "All-ins Won") - to me a "hit" denotes a knock out in the true sense. Or maybe just give just 0.5 a hit point when the victim chooses to rebuy? That way you still get some credit, even if you are spited by an misguided rebuy

Couldn't disagree more.  A hit is a hit is a hit.  If a dude rebuys, he is now a "new man" with new life, no different than a person showing up late and buying in for the first time.  Late man eliminated would count; why not the "new man"?

If I knock you out - I did my job.  Your choosing to rebuy is something that I have no control of.  I get credit for what I do.  Period.

Help Me / Bounties
« on: October 14, 2006, 03:48:22 PM »
I held a tourney last night using Bounties (as I have all year) but this was the first time I used the suggestion of buying in players without checking off "paid in full" so as to seat them early.

Perhaps one thing has nothing to do with the other, but for some reason, the software did NOT pickup on the Bounties.  I purchased a bounty, kept it, but it went unrecorded as a "Bounty Kept".  My personal stats shows me as purchasing 2 bounties prior to this event, and currently still shows only having purchased 2 bounties this year.

???  What did I suddenly do wrong / different?

Point taken.

What about consideration for one of the alternative suggestions, such as - a Warning pop-up if you begin your game and Auto has not yet been activated?  Or some variance of that theme, so as to at least have an alert to the fact that you may be positioning yourself to lose some very valuable data.

I now understand your deliberate action of not making it "ON" by default (as creator of this terrific program, you've probably experienced virtually every scenario) - but perhaps there's a happy medium in there somewhere.  I just know that I don't want to have to call / email my players again to try and recreate the entire evening (asking who got knocked out by whom and in what order over a 4 1/2 hour event that involved beer).  And until the beginning of this thread, I really hadn't figured out what I HAD done to lose the data from my 12th event that I'd held with no loss of data prior (just one more thing I hadn't experienced yet!).  So thanks again for this forum.  I'm beginning to feel like I'm gaining a handle on this program!

Experience is the best teacher.  I just want it to be someone else's!   ;)

I had to do that last month, also - because my 4.5 hour tourney was not Auto Saved (my oversight, I admit).

Is there a way to make "Auto Save" the DEFAULT vs. having to check it off?  Wouldn't most folks want to auto save?  Why not have to un-check it if we don't want it for some reason.  Including a warning if we do un-check it.

Does the designation of a final table not satisfy this?  If you designate a final table, the software will make sure your players end up on it, and will always try to keep that table filled.

I'm probably looking right past it -- but how exactly do I designate a certain table as the Final Table?

Help Me / Re: Points Payout Based On Players Formula

...above SHOULD read...

If I finish 3rd out of 40, I'd be awarded 37 points (not 32)

I got the basis for it out of the Help Files.  Look under 8.1.1 - Points for Playing examples.

It's interesting that, for example, if I finish at 25% thru the field (i.e. - 12th place out of 16), I am awarded the same number of points that night (12 points - rounded) as I would be if I finish at 25% thru the field with 40 players (30th place out of 40 = 12 points - rounded).

BUT, if I finish 1st out of 40, I'd be awarded 63 points vs. 1st out of 16 and being awarded only 40 points.

To take it further, if I finish at 75% thru the field (i.e. - 4th out of 16), I am awarded the same number of points that night (20 points) as I would be if I finish at 75% thru the field with 40 players (10th out of 40 = 20 points).

BUT, if I finish 4th out of 40, I'd be awarded 32 points vs. 4th out of 16 and being awarded only 20 points.

If I finish 3rd out of 40, I'd be awarded 32 points vs. 3rd out of 16 and being awarded only 23 points.

If I finish 2nd out of 40, I'd be awarded 45 points vs. 2nd out of 16 and being awarded only 28 points.

All in all, I think this is a pretty fair formula.

Help Me / Re: Points Payout Based On Players Formula

round(10*sqrt(n)/sqrt(r))

This formula ends up giving more points to top finishers against a large number of entrants, and less points to top finishers against a lesser field.

round(10*sqrt(n)/sqrt(r))+nh+(3*nb)+(5*nbk)-nr

I've added to it, to award points for Hits and Bounties, and take a point away for a Rebuy (we only allow one rebuy).

Help Me / Re: Formula for adding number of points plus number of re-buys
« on: October 12, 2006, 08:12:51 AM »
I'll toss in my 2 cents...

The formula I use actually SUBTRACTS a point for rebuys.  My logic is: If a player gets in the money without a rebuy, he deserves a larger point award than someone that had 2 chances (or more).

You may be adding points to encourage rebuys (hence, sweetening the pot), but I think it is somewhat of a disservice to the purest among us.
