Suggestions / Re: Automatic Prizes configuration / Display
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:53:54 PM »
Hi again Corey,

Another thing I noticed wen using automatic prizes:

When a bubble deal is hashed out using prize pool money (money taken out of some prizes and given out to the bubble), I noticed that the prizes get garbled up some.

I have all my prizes setup as a % of the pot and leftover shared to first place.

A bubble deal might dictate that I taken 50$ from the 1st place and 30$ from 2nd place to be given to a new 4th prize (the bubble)
When I go in to my 1st and 2nd prizes and "Adjust by" the proper amount, it affect the untouched 3rd prize. I guess this has to do with the "Share leftover" option but it is bothersome nonetheless as we need to breakout of using automatic prizes and re-create all prizes from scratch.

If a solution for this is not possible programmatically, I would at the very least suggest that we get a function to create "Fixed amount" prizes from automatic generated prizes.

Also, on a side note, can Automatic prize handle "Guaranties" and if so how?

TIA

Rounding is applied to automatic prizes.

I am sorry but how or where do I set that?
I would think this should go in the "adjustby" attribute but I do not know what value to put there.

And just to be clear, I would like the "rounding" to be applied automatically too...

Sorry, it looks like we're talking about two different places.  The Prizes tab has a rounding feature.  So if you press the Rounding button on the Prizes tab and select a rounding type, it will be applied to all prizes, regardless of where those prizes originated (that is, whether you created them manually or they were added via Automatic Prizes).  The Automatic Prizes configuration file does not have a rounding attribute, so you can't round individual prizes independently.
Yeah I kinda figured it out just now... And the rounding option gets saved with the tournament file which is what I was after realy (I thought I would have to set the rounding option every time).

That said, I came onto a small snag... I like to round my prizes to the nearest 20$ (Because that is mostly what my players pay me with) but I normally have 30$ from each buyin going to the prize pool. Result of one of my test: Total Pot: 510$ 1st Place: 360$, 2nd Place:160$
I set the rounding to be "to nearest" ans I have my 1st Place Prize set to "Share Left Over"

Is there anyway I can get around that?

Suggestions / Sorting
« on: January 17, 2016, 07:58:52 PM »
Hi,

I realize that this does not bother many of you but would it be possible to include diatrical marks in the sorting function?

For example: , , , etc. should all be sorted as "e".

Beta Testing / Re: 3.4 beta 1

  • Selecting the "Players Tab" automatically scroll down the display. ???

Never heard this.  Can you be more descriptive?

Well, I have notice that when I go to the PLAYERS' tab the header scrolls out of view (shifts up to the beginning of the players' table), so I need to scroll back up to see my tabs buttons and the header.

  • Trying to write to a "read only" file locks the application. I mentioned this before in the non beta version but I'll say it again anyway: I made all my "base tournament" files read-only to insure that they remain intact at all times, but when my manager forgets to do a "Save As", TD will eventually display an error dialog when attempting to auto-save the tournament. The problem here is there is no way to get out of this short of Force Quitting the app. Couldn't TD simply cancel the SAVE action and give us time to rectify the situation prior to attempting to save again? Because the dialog keeps coming back in a loop.

I replied to that comment already.  I've got a to-do item for addressing this.  Not sure how I'm going to go-about it, because I don't think "Auto-save" should automatically disable in case of an error, as the error could be temporary.  But maybe a dialog noting that since the tournament could not be saved, Auto-save will be disabled.  We'll see...
I am not saying that "AUTO-SAVE" should be disabled. but "fooling" TD into having completed the save might be a solution. That way it will attempt to auto-save again at the next cycle and allow the operator to fix the problem in the interim.

Suggestions / Adding Players
« on: January 14, 2016, 02:56:40 PM »
Hi Corey,

Very minor request here but I thought I'd share it anyway...

My setup include 5 leagues (Monday thru Friday) spread over 4 seasons/year (trimesters).

My issue is when I add players to my daily tournament. The "add player" dialog default to pointing the database to the "League Subset" which I then have to change to the "<ALL>" value... I have to do this with EVERY entries in my tournament. Could there be a way to tell TD that I only wish to use the "<ALL>" value (i.e. do not create a subset database for every league)?

I appreciated the need of having separate databases for each league but this is not the case for all as we can use the "league" feature in other ways.

Also, it would be nice if the focus of the "Add Players" window would be put on the "Players" list instead of the "League" database value. That way we could start typing the name of the player right away instead of having to select a random player in the list, uncheck it (because selecting it checks it by default) and then start typing. Again, this is a serie of steps that we have to do EVERY time we enter a new player.

Suggestions / Re: Master/Template

My suggestion would be what you've already done: create your templates and make them read-only.

Quote
At the beginning I locked those files so that they couldn't be overwritten but if the director forgot to do the save as, TD would crash when attempting to save.

Crash, as in the whole application stops working and exits?  When I try to save over a file which is read-only, I just get a dialog that says:

Name: Error
Number: 10 - 70
Description: Permission denied
Message: Permission denied
at File.saveFile(String, String)
at saveTournament(String, Boolean)
at saveTournamentDialog()

Your right, the program does not crash but the error keeps returning in a loop... The only way to get out of this is by Force Quitting the app.
As I mentioned in the Beta thread. I think TD should quit attempting to save when this dialog is presented to allow for the HUMAN to correct the situation before the next cycle comes along.

Suggestions / Re: Tag Team Event

I haven't ever run or played in a "Tag Team" tournament, so I admittedly don't know much about it.

Nowhere to specify a team name in the database
There has been a request I'm hoping to get to that would allow for color-coding players.  This could help identify teams I suppose.
If we could then sort the table by those Colors/Icons/team Names, the yes that would help

Quote
I had to manually check if teammates were seated at the same table (initially)
I don't know if there's much you'll be able to do about this, as the TD will only move randomly (with a few biases).  I suppose if the color-coding of players extended to the Tables tab, you could at least see whether or not two players of the same color were at the same table.
Yes for sure

Quote
I had to manually bust half (well close to it) of the players between the 4th and 5th level. This took a bit of time and I had all my players standing by for me to assign them a new seat (not stressing at all).
What would you suggest?

Easiest way here would be able to select multiple players and bust them all at once FROM THE PLAYERS TAB with the help of a "sort by color/icon/team" function.

Beta Testing / Re: 3.4 beta 1

Ok, ran the beta for the first time yesterday and here is what I found:

  • No Setting window on the first run: Had to do the "ALT - SHIFT - CTRL - F12" trick
  • Selecting the "Players Tab" automatically scroll down the display. ???
  • The 24 hours preference is not respected on the Tournament Display... Actually the <currenttime> token does not take the pref into consideration
  • The "Chip Up" column of the "Rounds" tab does not display the CHECK MARK properly.
  • Has the memory requirement much increase in this new beta? I have experience many BLACK dialog boxes and even transparent one while attempting different duties throughout my tournament. Busting out players was a biggy: Right-clicking would produce a transparent dialog, you had to guess where the "Bust player" option was and if you got lucky, you would then be presented with a black window (offering you to check other players to bust) where again you had to guess where the "OK" button was.

Later on in my tournament, I notice the whole app slowing down (countdown clock, scrolling info) where I simply decided to restart the whole thing (computer included). everything went fine after that... For information, TD is running under Windows 8, 8 Gig RAM 64 Bits, Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60 Ghz

Help Me / Re: Chip count on layout
« on: December 21, 2015, 03:08:32 PM »
"All chip counts"???

That token takes the chip count from your buyin info NOT the players info. In other words, it multiply the number of buyin by the amount of chips each player gets when they buy into your tournament (Plus Addons, rebuys etc.)

Suggestions / Tag Team Event
« on: November 15, 2015, 03:51:53 PM »
Hi Corey,

I just ran my first ever Tag Team Event using TD and I must say it could have ran a bit smoother...

First of all, here is a break down on the tournament itself:
  • Teams of two players
  • First 4 levels are played individually
  • Teammates combine their stack prior to the start of Level 5
  • Every teams get reseated.
  • Teammates alternate at the end of each level

Now for the hurdles:
  • Nowhere to specify a team name in the database
  • I had to manually check if teammates were seated at the same table (initially)
  • I had to manually bust half (well close to it) of the players between the 4th and 5th level. This took a bit of time and I had all my players standing by for me to assign them a new seat (not stressing at all).

Is there a way we could included this kind of tournament into TD or at least some functionalities that could help us in the future?

TIA
Michel

Help Me / Special Layout: Shoot Out Tournament
« on: September 22, 2015, 09:06:11 AM »
Hi all,

I was wondering if this was possible or if somebody already achieve this?

We will be holding a Shoot Out tournament soon where 10 team battles against each other. The formula is the following:
10 table, 1 player per each team at each table (each team member have the same seat on each table)

Points are attributed according to Bust position: 1st: 1 pt, 2nd: 2 pts, 3rd: 3 pts, etc.

I would like TD to keep track of those points for me, so:
  • Is there a token to specify which seat the bust out player was on?
  • Is there a token to specify which table the bust out player is from
  • Is there a token to specify how many player are left at a given table?

TIA
Michel
