I just loaded an older tournament i think.  I do have the new IE 7 beta and that probably changed things.  I don't know how to load/unload dll's and stuff.  I'll look around on the forums i guess.

Help Me / Program dialogue window error
« on: May 06, 2006, 03:16:58 PM »
I'm running windows Xp Sp2 and I don't get any information to show in the dialogue windows that pop up for anything in Tournament director 2.0 or 2.11.  I try to close the program, i just get an empty window with a close
  • in the top right and that's it.  I have to ctrl+alt+del to close the program down and I can make no adjustments.  I've tried reinstalling and nothing seems to work.

I noticed right from the start that when a tournament ended, the tournament wouldn't actually "end" for some time.  Every time i would fiddle around and eventually get the stats page to register the tournament we just finished.  To me it seems pretty buggy.  Any suggestions?

Suggestions / Re: Automatic Chip distribution
« on: March 06, 2006, 11:33:06 AM »
I also have an excel formula, but it would be nice to have an option to auto suggest breakdown based on number of players, number of chips, denomination of chips, etc.. in the program.

We just have small tournaments at home where 8 players is kinda the max.  And of course the guys all seem to like to play with as many chips as possible.  (we don't do rebuys or add-ons) My first attempts were really brutal because our blinds and chip ratios were not appropriate for the game.

I read somewhere online that 70% of the chips should be in the low to mid denominations, so that really helped me set up our games.  It would be fantastic if the chip set/blind funtions be semi integrated and helpful to adjust when the 2 guys that seem to show up last minute can be added in and the chip count/blinds can be adjusted accordingly.  (minus the pain of redistributing the stacks)

Of course, any suggestions people have to help me set up more appropriately would be welcome.

Help Me / Can you reset statistics?

I ran a couple dummy tournaments basically to try out the features in real time and to see how the points and prizes and different scenarios would play out.  Now I have stats that are going to screw up our real tournaments.  I know you can filter stats by date, but I just want a clean slate now that I've played a bit.  Maybe I have to delete the players and then start again, but I'd like to know for the future anyway..  just in case i run something in error or want to test other things.

It took me a little while but I have a formula that basically gives everybody a point for playing.  The maximum point score based on first place is 10 points no matter how many people are in the tournament, the minimum is one.
It gives by default

1st = 10
2nd = 8
3rd = 6
4th = 4
5th = 2
6th = 1
7th = 1
8th = 1 etc..

It awards every player a point for every hit they make.  So on a 20 player tournament a person could finish 6th but earn a total of 15 points or so by knocking out all other players before them, and in doing so potentially win more points than the tournament winner.  I think this may better reflect skill level, maybe not, of course luck is always a factor and timing etc..

When I have time again, I might go back and try to scale the points awarded to how many people are in the tournament by formula rather than giving points for the number of hits... or do both.. don't know.  Like increase the maximum points for first place and award more points down the scale depending on how many points are up for grabs by players in the tournament.  What I have here works well for smaller tournaments, which is all I've played so far.  :)
