Ok, i found a (dirty) workaround (it needs some commercial software though)

1.) I downloaded Filewatcher from http://www.datamystic.com/filewatcher.html (there's a 30 day free trial)
I set it up to watch the receipts-folder for new .html files and then hand the new file over to

2.) printHTM.bat Version 2.0 from http://www.robvanderwoude.com/printfiles.html
I had to Change the "Print"for my localized Windows-Version - The comments in the batch file tell you where to do so

3.) Copy Kix32.exe into the receipts-folder. - It's used for selecting the Printer you specify as parameter in the filewatcher-app and to "simulate" the click on print. It can be found at http://www.kixtart.org/

4.) Turn of the integrated "Print receipts" - option in TTD (you have to issue receipts though)

Voila! - Receipts are printed automatically, and you can chose the printer you'd like to use!

@Corey: If you could integrate an option to hand the newly generated .html receipt to a batch file, this would be great! - First things first, it'd be a cleaner way than watching a folder with a seperate application, also you would save me US$ 24.95 for the full version of FileWatcher.

Hello there,

I'd like to use the "print receipts" function of TTD, but everytime i buy someone in, the print-dialogue pops up, and i have to click "OK" - Is there a way to circumvent this dialogue? (Like the quick-print option in word or openoffice)

Thanks a lot in advance.

Suggestions / Re: Tournament Templates as folders

Hello, sorry for my hit and run post, i completely forgot about it.

Sorry for being a little bit confusing, it's the language barrier, it's kinda hard for me to explain those things. But I have a way better Idea anyway: Instead of organizing the whole thing in folders it would be better to have a "from file" option in the tabs (like in the rules - tab).

So for example if you go to the "Layout" - tab there could be a checkbox "From template-file" and if you check it, you're asked for the file's location. Now every time you load that saved tournament, the layout is loaded from the template-file. And if you change the layout-template, the layout is automatically updated for all the saved tournaments if you load them.

This way one could update the layout for all the saved files in just one step. (Which is great if you find a typo in your layout or just want to update it)

Sorry again for not responding that long, and thank you for your quick response, herb

Suggestions / Tournament Templates as folders
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:56:17 AM »
Hello there,

I'm working as floorman in a small cardroom, and we have all our tournaments saved as .tdt files. I simply copy-protected these files, so the other people working with TTD can't overwrite them, and so far this works quite well.

When we're starting the daily tournament, we load the template, save it with the current date as filename, but there is one problem with this: whenever i change the layout, i have to open up all our Template-files, load the new layout-template (or rounds-template, or whatever we changed) and save it again. So here's my ideas on how this could be done better:

  • Add a "New from template"-Option in the main screen ("Game")
  • Whenever that button is pressed, TTD searches for folders in a subfolder called "tournament_templates" in the TTD-Directory
  • Every folder contains a tournament template and the name of the folder is what you get to choose when you click "New from Template" (e.g. 20+2$ Rebuy-Tournament)
  • The Template-folders contain the standard .tdt file AND! template-files for rounds, rules, tables... (all the things you can save as a template)
  • Whenever you choose to Make a new tournament, all those files are loaded. When a template-file is missing, the standard template is loaded

This way, whenever you change the layout, or the rules, or anything, you just have to copy the new template-files into all of the Template-folders, or change the standard-template file for those things that are the same for all tournaments, and you're done, the're automatically loaded)
I think this would make TDT even easier to work with, especially for those who administrate the templates and do the layouts.

So what do you think of this idea??

I'd recommend you to balance the tables manually, and then move the player in the "tables" screen by dragging and dropping.
Usually you won't want to stop the tournament just to let TDD make the decisions for you, seems like an unnecessary holdup.

Well, not really, but we're now simply adding up the add-ons and rebuys in the break, and assign them to random players it's not that much of a problem.

The statistics aren't correct, but they wouldn't be anyway, we'd have to note down, who made a rebuy or an add-on, and that'd too much of a hold-up for the dealers.

Also we kinda found a work-around for the tables-thing, we simply don't care too much anymore. In the first tournaments, we tried to identify the players via the seating chart, but that didn't work out, because the chairs of the empty places at a table were often moved by spectators, so the seat numbers were hard to determine in the tournament. And if you ask a player who just busted out of the tournament for his nickname, he's not very happy. We solved that by giving every player a card with his nickname on it as a receipt for his buy-in and we track them with those cards, problem solved.

So far, we're pretty happy with The Tournament Director now, but I'm sure gonna bug you with some feature requests again soon ;)

Hello,
I'm working as a Dealer in a Card-Casino, and my Boss now bought the commercial-Version of TTD.

There are some suggestions i have, that would make it easier to use in a professional environment.

  • Player movement: It's great, TTD immediately informs the floorman, when Tables aren't balanced, but it would be great if one could select the player to move, and the place he's moved to. - We always move the next big blind, so the program's guess is wrong most times, and we have to manually move the players in the "Tables" screen.
  • Rebuys and add-ons: If all the tables are full, it's impossible for the Floorman to immediately do all the rebuys and the Add-Ons. That's why we count the rebuys and Add-Ons and in the Break we use TTD's House-Contribution function, to correct the prize money. It would be great if you could just tell the program to add a number of rebuys and add-ons without having to specify a player. I know, this way the won/lost statistics of the player aren't correct any more, but it would be easier for us

Thank you very much in advance, herb

Well - i don't really need this feature but i understand the "esthetic" problem. Maybe you could solve the problem by building a web-interface into TTD. - I've seen many programs that can be remote controlled via web-page, maybe that's the solution, run the program in the main window, and control it from the browser.
That way it would also be possible to control TTD with a smart phone or something, and the dealers could do the rebuys and add-ons without the help of the floorman.

Probably overkill, but hey...

EDIT: Another way would be to "export" the main-tournament page to a .html file, and have firefox display this page in full screen, but that would have to be some very dynamic html to be able to display changes immediately.
