question about winamp
« on: March 28, 2008, 09:20:35 PM »
Has anyone requested, or has there been any thought to adding this option:  Being able to have the current song playing in winamp or other music player show up on the main tournament screen?

I think this would be a nice option.  I have a very eclectic collection of music.  I play winamp in the background during my tournaments.  People are always trying to figure out who sings this song or that song, and it would be nice for it to be displayed on the main screen.

Pretty much a useless feature, but for us playing in home games, this is a way cool feature  :D

I don't know about "useless", but I would say that, just as CanopicJar described his collection of music, this would be an "eclectic" feature.

useless in the sense that we all should be concentrating on the game when we are playing and not staring at the laptop/monitor for the song we just can't think of  :D :D :D

and also, the few times I've played tournaments in the casino, it seemed that they wanted a very professional feel to the tournament. To play music or to have wacky bust out blurbs just seemed a bit too low browed...

you know, it would be cool to incorporate WMP interface into the TD program. You already use WMP to play the sounds. You know when you minimize WMP while its playing a song and the controls embed themselves into the task bar, if it could be embedded into the TD tournament screen would be both functional and you could see what song is playing.

I can guarantee you that I do not run a 'professional, casino-style' tournament... and that is NOT my goal!  We are a very laid back group who get together to play cards, eat alot of good food and just have fun.  Certainly the sound effects which I have set up are not meant for a casino.  That is what makes this software awesome.  It is customizable for whatever style you want!

Regardless of its usefulness or useLESSness, is it something that is possible?

Because the TD uses Windows Media Player to play sounds, this is definitely possible, and a feature I have seriously considered for some time.  For the simple fact that, by using an embedded music player to player background music, the TD could conceivably automatically pause, mute, or lower the volume of the music being played when events occur.

But the issues then start around features that users would want added to the music player, and the TD application does enough as it is - it doesn't need to inherit the roles of other, completely distinct applications.

This is on the enhancement list, but I don't see it as important enough to be moved up over other features/additions that would benefit a wider audience.

No, the TD software doesn't incorporate a music player.  This was discussion around whether or not it would be possible, and whether or not it would be a good feature.
