Automatic Chip distribution
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:36:52 AM »
It would be a great feature if you added Auto chip distribution. i.e you have X amount of $25 chips and X amount of $100 and x amount of $500 and you needed to make $1500 using all the chips (crude example) for 16 players. im sure you understand me here

I would like to see this as well.  I would find it VERY helpful for a pre-set chip count based on a few questions pertaining to the game at hand.  Also, being able to save these "chip count layouts" would be a nice touch.

That would be similar to the suggest blinds...  Do not see the usefullness in this application though.  I did it on an Excel spreadsheet.

I also have an excel formula, but it would be nice to have an option to auto suggest breakdown based on number of players, number of chips, denomination of chips, etc.. in the program.

We just have small tournaments at home where 8 players is kinda the max.  And of course the guys all seem to like to play with as many chips as possible.  (we don't do rebuys or add-ons) My first attempts were really brutal because our blinds and chip ratios were not appropriate for the game.

I read somewhere online that 70% of the chips should be in the low to mid denominations, so that really helped me set up our games.  It would be fantastic if the chip set/blind funtions be semi integrated and helpful to adjust when the 2 guys that seem to show up last minute can be added in and the chip count/blinds can be adjusted accordingly.  (minus the pain of redistributing the stacks)

Of course, any suggestions people have to help me set up more appropriately would be welcome.

I heard a rule of thumb is to have 100x the BB in chips.

I would assume that the programmer would be able to impliment this into future upgrades.

The quote above is just a little rediculous to say... "I don't see any use...  I did it in Excel"  Well, if you HAD to use another program to do this, why would it not make perfect sense to add that functionality to this product??  What would you have done without your excel sheet??

Anyhow, I too see this as one of the MAIN issues with tournament setup...  Being able to calculate the most appropriate number of chips per player if you know that you have x number of chips and x number of players and you need to save some chips for rebuys...  this would alleviate alot of prep work for sure.

Also, being able to calculate blinds based on the initial and potential re-buy chip allotments would be a good thing to include.

Just my .02 here...

We run a T2000 tournament, blinds starting @ 25-50

Chip distribution =

12 Green (25)
12 Black (100)
1 Pink (500)

= 25 chips (2000)

Blind Schedule =

25/50
50/100
75/150

*chip up greens ---> blacks*

100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
2500/5000

with about 20 buy-ins, 10 rebuys (until they are cut-off @ the end of round 5), this usually makes for a approx. 4hr tournament... there is also antes starting in the 400/800 round (but I forget the exact amounts per round... it's roughly 1/4 the SB)

As far as the chip distribution goes, HomePokerTourney.com has a .pdf chip calculator, as well as blinds suggestions sheets....

We play a fast game w/15 minute blinds starting at $25/50 and finishing at $8,000/$16,000 if it gets that high. We start with 6,000 in chips if there are 10 players all the way up to 22 (our maximum amount).

The chip set can be set up in the tournament director under Chips Tab...

Attached is blind schedule and chips counts.
