Laptop transfer sounds failure
« on: October 27, 2007, 06:37:18 AM »
Having setup my tournament on my PC and then made dozens of events, I then backed up everything and tried to transfer to my laptop. I couldn't find an option in Backup to import a backup so I just copied the TD2 folder in its entirety on the C Drive (labelled C_Drive and which uses Windows XP) of my PC (where everything was working fine) to the same location on the laptop, which also has XP and the same label for the C Drive.

At first all seemed well and I was able to load up saved tournaments ans see all the relevant data.

When I tried to run the events in the tournament though they wouldn't play. No sound came out.

I checked the wav files by finding them manually on the laptop via Explorer and they played fine. When I browsed for them via the Events tab in TD2 though and then tried to play them nothing happened.

I then tried to recreate one of the failed events from scratch but it was the same.

One or two of the original sounds did work like the warning near the end of a level. I had only modified this by changing the actual sound wav file but was still using the TD raw set up for the event. The raw event itsefl was one that was there from the start of the program being installed.

On the same subject, I've also noticed that if I try to recreate an event from scratch, (that already exists in the preset setup examples) but with a modification on (say) the number of seconds before it fires, then these too sometimes fail. I end up having to create an existing event from the default list, and then alter it that way.

In the end I ran the tournament with only a few working sounds.

After some digging I've found that some of the files have different bit rates (whatever that is). Anyway I've got a demo sound converter and found if I make the wavs 16 bit and 16000hz then they will play in TD2.

Hopefully this may help someone in the future.
