Title: -SOLVED- Event Trigger help
Post by: Trash Monkey on August 06, 2010, 01:54:54 PM
I've searched around a bit for a solution but couldn't find one. It's probably there somewhere and I just search incorrectly.

2 help questions.

#1 I can't seem to get the "random player is chosen for a prize" event trigger to display a message on the screen. Here is what I have selected.

Prize tab
Recipient: Random player
Amount: Non-monetary (swag prize)
Display: Name (whatever the swag prize is)

Events tab
Trigger: random player is chosen for a prize
Hotkey: none
Conditions: none
Action: (1)Display message <prizename> Awarded to <name> Congratulations!

I have other events set up for when players bust out (funny sounds/message). Are these conflicting with the "random prize" event?

Question #2

Is the <randomname> token at all related to the random player chosen using the random player dialog box from the players tab? If so can the <randomname> token be used in the "display message" field under the controls tab to display the randomly chosen player?

TIMMER I appreciate your willingness to help and go to the lengths that you have to help. However My problem isn't bounty related.

I see what you're saying now. So in theory. The player with the bounty has the sunglasses to give to the player that takes him out of the game....That would work.

Can't it use the same message property set that the rest of my on screen messages use?

I apologize for being such a pain... I wish my formula/script writing was more up to par.

I can't get it to display still. In the prizes tab I set the prize as a bounty on random player. The copied your settings straight over...Never displayed. Could I be having a conflict with my event that triggers every time a player is busted out of the game?

on the Event Tab dont check the boxs I think its called OMIT that prevent them from firing

None of my events are omitted. And checking box number 2 in the 2nd pic only tells the software that that action has been performed when in reality it has even fired at all.

no by checking the box should let it fire, did u run a mock tourney

yeah I've ran mock tournaments and after an event fires if you go back to look at the event the software has put a check mark in that action box so that it knows not to perform it again till all the other actions of the same type(sound or message) have been performed.

when u say other actions  I'm lost ,on mine its just the 1 that should fire, mine has a sound wave and a message and they fire at the same time

sorry it was more of an example. For events that have multiple sounds and multiple messages. In our particular case where there is only 1 sound and 1 message...which essentially makes that check box useless for this event since it can only fire 1 of each every time.

so u are trying 2 get it to fire more then once

yeah, I've got 3 random prizes every game, but honestly I'd just like to see it fire once. I can come up with other ways to give away the other 2 prizes(bubble, raffle, high card etc...)

Received an email back from corey.

"For #1, your hunch is probably correct.  Only one event will be processed for any given action in the tournament.  Randomly chosen prizes are awarded when players bust-out, so if you have a bust-out event that is being triggered, no other events will be triggered for the bust-out.  The ordering of the events on the Events tab determines event relative priority.  Therefore, you should simply move the random-player event to a spot above the bust-out event(s)."

And the problem is solved. I moved the event up the list and it is now triggering correctly.

Honestly Timmer we could have spent hours on this and "moving it up the list" would have never occurred to me as a solution.

In the process of solving this another thought came to mind for a different event if you're willing to help me hash through it.

Sorry!  My priorities are to answer support email first, then the forums, and on some weekends I just can't do both.  I actually tried to answer this one but then my 2-year old wanted to work on a spreadsheet and that was that.  :)

No worries Corey. I know you're busy. Figured I'd give the forums as shot first before I bothered you.

Thanks again.
