UPT please read

I was looking at your website, and you got a really good group going there. I was just wondering how you paid for the grand prize entry's into a major tournament? Does that come out of your pocket?

Along the same lines, have you tried to see if the major tournament prize that you give out could be donated by the casino hosting it. With so many season's under your belt, you have definitely given that casino some free advertising, they might be willing to give up a seat to such a well organized league. I'm wondering if you tried that and what was the conversation between you and the casino.

I have actally played in this league for 4 tours and the prize money comes from the league funds. Each location pays a base rate for hosting the tournaments, just as if the would for a comedian/band/other entertainment.

I see, so you usually play in pubs and such, and they make their profit off of drink/food sales... I don't think that is allowed here but I'd like to look into it... thanks hemi

Thanks Hemi.

Phaze, Yes the venues pay us as entertainment... like a band or Karaoke.

We run two tournaments each night and bring about 30-50 people out for about 5 hours ;)

No cover, no charge at all to play poker.

We use the money to pay for equipment, little daily prizes, a Tournament Director for each event and of course the Grand Prizes.

Hemi, was/is one of our very talented Tournament Directors.

We give away tournament seats and a nights lodging.
The hotels cut us a good rate on the rooms :)

We have also filmed six of our final events and aired them on local TV, I need to digitize these and load them on the web.
We also brought in Linda Johnson in 2006 to host one of our finals, she is one of the finest ambassadors for poker there is.

Anything I can help with, let me know.

What do you mean by using the money for a tournament director at each event? Each event buys a license for TD? or the money pays for you to come and use td at their event?

I think Karaoke or Name that tune charges about 300 - 400 a night. Is that right around your price?

What kind of issues do you have with law enforcement? or even for bar security in issues such as collusion, drunks, and non-playing patrons?

Tournament Director, as in a Person who runs and officiates the event... not the software :)

We have strict rules about levels of inebriation.

Very little trouble with non-playing patrons, we left one venue because it was a bit rowdy.

We play in nice places with a good clientele.

There is no law against playing poker, as long as you don't have to pay to play.
