Help Me / Re: Error in points on Stats tab
« on: January 29, 2007, 10:15:48 PM »
Ok, now it gets even more strange!  ???

When I got home and rechecked stats on my PC, the point difference was still there for the 5th place finishers. Through the course of loading played games to double check the prize configuration and refreshing the stats tab, I somehow got the points to be wrong for 5th place players in games that only paid 4 places but now the 2 players that actually did receive a payout for 5th place had their points show correct. I do not know what I did to cause this display and have not been able to repeat it so now I'm back to incorrect points for the 2 prize winning 5th place players.

When the points are wrong for the 2 5th place prize winners then the total points on the Stats tab are off by a negative amount that is exactly the bonus amount for "in the money" (bonus for 5th place not added when should have). When the points were wrong for the 4 5th place non-prize winners then the total points on the Stats tab were off by a positive amount that is exactly the bonus amount for "in the money" (bonus for 5th place added when should NOT have).

All games look to be ok to me, the prizes are configured properly and show up on the Prizes tab. The stats filter is only picking up the 6 games we've played this year. It does find 132 total games with 126 from last year not filtered. There are no unfinished games listed. I also copied the saved games to my thumb drive and then recopied them to my PC and laptop at home. The laptop also showed an incorrect point total when I look at the stats tab on it.

I have no idea what might be wrong. You are more then welcome to look at my saved games if you need/want and I'll try to do any thing you want me to to help figure this out. It is not hindering me too much as I just tell the players to check the StatsGenie site for the points but we miss being able to export a valid HTML page from the stats tab for display on my home page.

Hope I am being clear enough in my descriptions. Again, I'll do what ever you need to help track this down.

Thank you sir!!

Help Me / Re: Error in points on Stats tab

Hey Corey,

Yeah, weird huh?? I definitely have the prize configured properly. The "Prizes" tab shows positions 1-5, the % and the $ amount for both games that paid 5 places.

Now it gets more strange. I was showing a couple of players at work the situation but on my PC at work it shows the correct totals on the stats tab???

If it was just one players points I would think maybe I just was on crack or something  ;D  but to have the only two players that received 5th position points be off seems too weird.

You don't think is has something to do with my home PC's CPU being a Dual Core or something squirrelly like that maybe??
I'm going to recheck on both my laptop used at the tournaments (have not done it there yet)  and my home PC tonight when I get off work and I'll post back then.

Help Me / Error in points on Stats tab
« on: January 28, 2007, 05:22:14 PM »
Hi Corey,

Think I may have found a bug in how the stats tab calculates total points?? Been using the software for over a year now without problems but we've just started using a "Points for playing" formula this year. We used Excel last year and calculated every thing there so don't know if this existed already.

Here is my situation.
The "Points for playing" formula, when tested, displays the correct total points earned for a given player. When I export the tournament to StatsGenie the correct points are exported. Actually, thats why I noticed an anomaly. As I was comparing point totals there to what the Stats tab showed in TD there was a difference. Closer checking seems to show that the point differences are related to any tournament that gives points to 5th position (if in the money).

Here is the formula I use:
((n-r)+1)+(if(r=1 and m,n*.4,0)+if(r=2 and m,n*.2,0)+if(r=3 and m,n*.1,0)+if(r=4 and m,n*.05,0)+if(r=5 and m,n*.025,0)+if(r=6 and m,n*.0125,0))+nh*.5

As you can see, each position gets a bonus if "in the money". The differences I'm seeing are exactly the bonus amount calculated for 5th place when in the money. We have not paid out 6 positions so don't know if that is a problem or not. I went through and compared total points in TD Stats to Statsgenie for every player and the only difference is the 2 tournaments I've had that paid 5 places. All players points who were in the money for 1-4 positions seem to be fine.

Here's an example:
Player Joe has played 6 tournaments. StatsGenie shows 81.78 total points. TD shows 81.2 on the "Stats" tab. The difference is exactly this players point bonus for his 5th place money win (23 players start, Joe was 5th and knocked out 1 player) - 23*.025=0.58 (.575 rounded up to 0.58).  81.78 - 81.2=0.58.

If you need any more info or need any of my game files just let me know. I'm glad to help any way I can.

Thanks!

Craig

General Discussion / Procedure Question
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:37:25 PM »
We had a couple of situations occur recently that I'd lake to run past you guys for input.

First was we had a situation where, due to us using a moving button and several players getting knocked out on one hand we were left with three players remaining that were all big blinds. My question is how to post the blinds on the next hand? It has to be 3 small blinds correct? You can't force a player to be the BB twice in a row??

Next was, in a heads-up situation, one of the players was all-in so both hands were exposed and no more betting action. The dealer exposed the next burn and river card as he was dealing the turn card. Normally, with action to come, we would finish the turn card action then shuffle the exposed burn and river card back into the stub, then NOT burn, and deal the river so that the exposed river had a chance to come back out. Since there was no betting being done is this still necessary? My vote was to maintain procedure and shuffle the stub but I was outvoted by the other members who said that there was no action to affect and that if the stub was shuffled it would give the all-in player an unfair advantage by getting to see another card. What do you guys think???

Thanks!

Help Me / Auto-Save Function Question
« on: October 10, 2006, 04:08:55 PM »
I had an incident during a tournament the other night where TD crashed during play.  >:(  Actually, not TD I think but IE, don't remember the exact error, just wanted to get going again.
I restarted from my last save which, unfortunately, was at the beginning of the tournament. We got a consensus on who was knocked out by whom and resumed play to finish. For the remainder of the tourney I was saving manually pre and post of knocking a player out.

I knew there was an auto-save feature but for the life of me could not find it!  ???

Next day I reran the tournament to more closely reflect the actual playing time and did then see where to enable the auto-save function. (Also saw that "Q" would do a quick-save. I'd been going to "Game" tab and clicking on "Save". You'd think I'd have seen the "Auto-save" box then!    :-[)

My question is, what actually triggers a save?
I have the "How often to auto save" timer set to 120 seconds on the "Preferences" tab and the "Auto save" option enabled on the game tab.
The bubble help for this option shows "When checked, your tournament will automatically be saved every 60 seconds (if necessary). See the preferences page to change how often the tournament is saved."

So what constitutes "necessary"?

Can the save triggers be configured any where?

I've ran like a 100 tournaments prior to this without a hitch so my confidence level is still extremely high but just want to be able to save my butt in case it happens again (1000 tournaments down the line!   :) )

Thanks in advance for any help!

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Clip from "The Warriors"

I'll have a look see theCOG. Obviously I did not search hard enough  :)

Thanks for the link!

I think you can just configure each table to be 11 or 12 (that would be tight  :)) players to start then change it to the number you want as you lose the first few players???

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Clip from "The Warriors"
« on: October 07, 2006, 03:38:04 PM »
Hey gang! I've searched unsuccessfully for sound bites from the old movie "The Warriors" Anybody got any info???

Specifically, I'm looking for the clip where the dude is in the car clacking the bottles together on his fingers saying "Warriors! Come out to playaaayyyy"

I want to use this for the tourney start.   :)

Thanks!

Help Me / Formula Validation Please
« on: June 16, 2006, 07:51:31 PM »
Hi gang!

We are wanting to assign the following points:
1 point for playing
1 point for every player knocked out before you
1/2 point for every hit you give
Bonus to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions of .3, .2 and .1 respectively times number of starting players.

Here is the formula I'm using which seems to work fine for the several tests I ran but was wondering if there is an easier or more elegant way to achieve the results.

((n-r)+1)+(if(r=1,n*.3,0)+if(r=2,n*.2,0)+if(r=3,n*.1,0))+nh*.5

Thanks for any input!!

I started to use HomePokerTour but only spent a few hours investigating. I didn't really feel comfortable with it. Granted, it was a short trial.

I then looked at StatsGenie and have not turned back since. Exporting from TD to SG format is a breeze and uploading the xml file into SG is just as easy.

Setting up leagues was pretty easy as well. I've created 4 leagues so far, 1 for our tournaments that generate points toward the YE tournament; 1 for the YE tournament; 1 for special events during the year that don't count toward points for the YE; and 1 for tournaments that are short handed that also do not count toward the YE tournament. Once set up, both TD and SG make keeping the various leagues separate a breeze.

I like that once the data is in SG you can drill down on a multitude of parameters and that you can create your own custom rankings to show as much or as little as you desire. Yes, you can get this info from within TD as well and export to html but you have to load the data each time and that is a bit time consuming. Once it is uploaded to SG then you are done.

The really nice feature of SG is the scheduling. This makes it extremely easy to setup your tournaments and send the invitations out. It takes a bit of time to set things up but if I can do it then any one can!  ;D

The League forum feature is also really nice. It lets all your members have a common local for discussing any items that you want to bring up. We use it all the time for discussion of who can host next game, events occurring to players, whatever.

The 2 together are awesome! I don't know how we got along before running our tournaments w/o them. TD has made running the tournaments almost automatic and since I am the keeper of the records  leading up to our YE tournament, SG makes it really easy to get the info out to every body on a timely basis.

I'm still learning both environments but as I said, they have helped our tournaments tremendously

General Discussion / Re: General Information

Once you've got your initial setup completed ahead of time it is pretty much just play and let it take care of things. You do have to interact to balance tables when TD suggests if you want and manually knock players out as they drop but both are real easy.

If you want accurate chip counts as the tourney plays then this must be done manually. We just set the starting amount then forget it. It has saved us tons of time and aggravation. Stats tracking is a really nice component. We export all the saved games to statsgenie and the 2 combined are really cool!!

Thanks Corey! I'm ok now but someone else may hit this snag. Glad it will be an easy fix tho.

Tim - We used the same formula too for a while but decided we wanted to give the top 3 places just a BIT more for their effort so they get a bonus 1,2,3 points for 3rd, 2nd, 1st place.
We LOVE to rub it in the other players noses when were on top!   ;D

This may be fixed in 2.1.1 but I've already fixed all my 2.0 games so have no way to test.

When I opened a saved 2.0 game under 2.1, there were no points displayed for any players.
Looking closer I noticed that the formula had been modified and was generating an error.

The saved games originally had the formula ((n-r)+1)+(max(4-r,0))
but when I opened them in 2.1 the formula displayed ((n-r)+1)+(MATH.max(4-r,0))

All I had to do was remove the MATH. from the formula and all looks to be ok but I had to open, modify, save >30 tournaments.   :(

I also hit the non-updating blind display and round sound problem but see that is fixed in 2.1.1.
All I did was change screens then go right back to the F2 display during play and the blinds were updated ok.   :)

Help Me / Re: Manually adding tournaments already played
« on: April 17, 2006, 02:40:34 PM »
Thanks again Corey. Setting back the system clock function is exactly what I was thinking about doing if there was not an alternate method.
I am on the eval so will not attempt this until I decide to register.

Thanks for the input as well Tim. Man, a 15 hour tourney! How'd you keep yer eyes open!  :)

Guess I'll try the eval live this weekend then knuckle down and get my old ones in after I reg.

Help Me / Manually adding tournaments already played
« on: April 17, 2006, 11:36:51 AM »
I just found this program recently. So far it look great!
Moving forward should be fine but we have played 30 tournaments since Jan that I would like to have tracked as well.
I have most of the raw data in Excel (Start/End Date/Times; Level player busted out; Monies paid in; etc.)
We have not tracked hitman stats so I guess I'll leave that out going forward till next year/season

I tried to enter an old one by using templates I've created to match our tournament structure.
This worked as far as positions go but the time stamps are not valid (obviously it's not Jan any more  :)
How do I get my old data in with valid times and dates?

Any help/hints appreciated!
