Heads up button
« on: July 12, 2008, 05:10:29 AM »
Just to clarify in heads up the button is the small blind right? And acts first before the flop then the the Big Blind acts first for the remaining 2 streets.

I have searched the net and that seams to be the consensus but this website claims the opposite

http://www.holdemreview.com/texas-holdem-heads-up-rules/

This has been an on going issuse where I'm the TD for a Pub game.

Thanks guys

Interesting.

Bit strange, how we play is

when it goes to heads up, you can't miss a big blind so the dealer button
will move to suit the big blind.
The dealer is always the small blind, I was always told the best way
to know who is bb and who is sb is bb 2 chips sb 1 chip and 1 button
in most cases this works, heads up all the smaller chips should have gone
and if not the players should always use the biggest chip possible.

Player to act, I think we might play this wrong or I am confused.

We play sb is dealer and is first to act, fold, call or raise, after the flop the bb is
first to act check or bet.

There would be 3 remaining streets, but otherwise you are correct.

Button acts first pre-flop.  Button acts last on the flop, turn, and river.  I do believe that adds up to 3!

lol

He said "the button is the sb and acts before the flop (1) then the bb acts first for the remaining 2 streets" (2)
1 + 2 = 3

The way you answered him, you was saying he was wrong but he was not, after the flop there are 2 streets left.

Not having a go or anything just my observation.

Here is the rule from Roberts Rules of Poker:

3. In heads-up play with two blinds, the small blind is on the button. When play becomes heads-up, the player who had the big blind the most recently is given the button, and his opponent is given the big blind.

Here is where I found it:

http://www.homepokertourney.com/roberts-rules-of-poker.htm#SECTION_4_-_BUTTON_AND_BLIND_USE

The 2008 WSOP rulebook says the same thing; rule 78.  Here is the link:

http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/pdfs/wsop.tournament-rules.08.pdf

Hope this helps.
