Has anyone else noticed that the software fails to respond as quickly after a Windows 10 upgrade.
It doesn't do it in any other programme and also seems to be the same on my laptop.
I have to click several times with the mouse on most of the buttons and sometimes keystrokes are also ignored.
Forgive me if this is a known issue.
-
It's a known issue in the sense that it has been reported only a very few times (maybe only once?) at this time (see http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=5039.msg21468#msg21468). Thanks for reporting it. I honestly don't know what might be causing it at this time, but I don't think it's Windows 10. The TD has been operating fine under Windows 10 for a long time now. Could be another application, or possibly an update to Windows 10.

Same problem here with my laptop. PC is working fine. Weird
-
So I'm NOT going crazy.... ;)
I too have noticed this anomaly since the last month or so.
Thought it was mouse batteries going dead or some driver issue, etc.
For me, it's like the mouse click is only partially accepted. Click on an item and it is depressed but the underlying process is not initiated. Click again then it completes.
At least now I'll just deal with it and not go to extremes to try and 'fix' it.

I had/have the same issues CruiseLite. I will say that after installing more RAM into my computer, the problem appears far less often. I am not suggesting that you spend more money on RAM, but more RAM is always good, especially under windows. I wonder (and may actually test) trying to allocate a specific amount of memory for the TD software and see if that helps... Right now, I am stuck in SnowZilla 2016, so I may get to it.
-
I have oodles of Ram and I'm a PC tech so although I agree that Ram is always could, I find it hard to see a reason to ignore keystrokes. Done all the latest updates, no virus checker (tried it with AVG) and I've gone through the usual cutting out of background applications. It certainly isn't getting better.
Cruiselite has it in one, the buttons are highlighted but need a second or third click to function.
-
I'll get current on Windows updates and see what happens. Is everyone experiencing this using Windows 10?

Awesome. :)

I have made all the recommended changes without any joy I'm afraid apart from reducing the security levels on my system.
When working on settings such as displaying on screen messages and making changes to prizes etc. the module is virtually un-usable dropping on average 1 keystroke in 3.
Multiple or held clicks are required to activate any commands.
I have no idea why this should be a problem and why IE would make any difference. But it certainly hasn't worked for me.
All issues coincide with upgrade to windows 10.
-
Further to that the changes recommended exposed my PC to vulnerabilities and I now have 349 viruses via Internet Explorer
-
And how do you know they are "via Internet Explorer"?
-
My system was clean as a whistle and these changes made it vulnerable.
They appeared within a couple of hours after the changes and having worked with computers for 30 years I always employ the principle that the last change induces the latest problem it stands to reason that IE is the cause.
Irrespective of this the changes made no difference to the TD environment, so the problem is not resolved and is increasingly frustrating.
I have replicated my PC on a laptop and have the same issues but on another laptop with Windows 7 there is no such latency.
-
If I hold the mouse button down each command eventually appears to work, but obviously this takes some time and similarly with the keystrokes, it's impossible to type anything at normal speed. Bit of an odd one I guess.
-
my own two cents...
still in the evaluation period on two laptops.
laptop 1 - windows 10, latency as per the above. laptop 2 - windows 8, no latency. upgraded to windows 10 today, immediate latency as described above... Hope this can get fixed!
-
Not happy that you are experiencing the same issues, but relieved it's not just me
-
You're definitely not the only one. I've also received a [very] few emails regarding this. So while clearly not everyone using Windows 10 is having this issue, the number of those experiencing it is not insignificant. I'm still unable to reproduce, but I've been trying different configurations and updates in my Windows 10 images to try to make it happen. I thought I had reproduced it at one time, as I experienced a very real, almost extreme, latency, but after 30 to 45 seconds it went away entirely and I've not been able to make it happen again.
I queried someone who had sent an email regarding this issue, and their experience was that latency started to occur as the tournament grew larger in players. As players busted out, the latency began to subside. Has this been anyone else's experience?
-
For me, the latency arose soon as I'd installed the software. Needed two/three keystrokes to register any key presses - thus is before any tournament had started and before I'd savec/loaded templates etc.
-
Yes I am having the same issue and I am running win 10. Yes it started after a major update was requested by MS. Edition is Windows 10 Home. Version 1511 OS Build 105863318. The updates that were installed just BEFORE it started it's problem were: KB3157993 - KB3156421 - KB890830 - KB3154132 - KB3147458 - KB3140741. MS is now saying I need update KB3152599. So I'm going to install that and see what happens. If it doesn't clear up, I'm going to reinstall the TD software and see what that does.
As for the problem it is that I have to hit/click several times and wait no mater what I'm doing. Adding players, busting out players, loading templates etc. It even hung up one time while busting out a player that I had to restart the computer. Will keep you advised as to any changes in problem.
-
Corey, one other thing happened after the updates. I had to validate my license again.
-
Added that MS update. No change in problem. Deleted then reinstalled TD software with no change in problem.
-
Finally got problem resolved. I had to reset my PC then load TD again. I'm now back to normal.
-
When you say "reset your PC then load TD again" what did you do?
-
I'm leaning towards this being a Windows update of some kind. I spent the weekend updating Windows 10 and continually running the TD, but still not happening for me. I also continued to research the issue itself to see if it is happening to Internet Explorer users in general or just the TD. I suspect that most people who've upgraded to Windows 10 are now using Edge instead of IE, so it's possible there's an issue but so many fewer people are experiencing it that it's just not well known.
I did come across one person who had a "slowdown" of IE, and they were able to fix the issue by resetting IE settings. I have no idea if this is related, and no way to test, so therefore have no idea if it will help anyone. But if you're struggling with this issue, you may want to give it a go.
If you want to try resetting IE:
- Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
- Reopen Internet Explorer.
- Click the Tools button, and then click Internet options.
- Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset...
- In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

Thanks for the detailed information. This will definitely help.

I experience this, although in my case it appears to be a question of focus. Mouse cursor directly over "Yes", "No", etc. equals one click. Anywhere else on the button requires multiple clicks.
-
I reset my PC under the update advance option.

That's new, although I wonder if it's just the same issue manifesting itself slightly differently...
-
Are those of you experiencing this issue using Windows 10 that was upgraded from a previous version of Windows? Anyone experiencing this on a fresh Windows 10 install?
I've been testing on a fresh Windows 10 install and still can't reproduce it.
-
Upgrade here.
-
it was after an update/rebuild that I got problems. The update said it was rebuilding windows. Current product id is 00326-10000-00000-AA244. But like I said after doing a reset which was another rebuildand reloading TD problem went away.
-
I reset my PC under the update advance option.
Can you be more specific? Did you reset Windows or reset Internet Explorer? And how did you do it?
-
Went through windows settings. Clicked on windows update. Click on advanced. Click on reset "but keep my files where they are."
-
I've tried numerous browsers and PC and laptop both identical, however neither are a raw version of 10 they were formatted, installed 7 and then upgraded. The problem appears on a y button at any time and perhaps the worst issue is when one is trying to type in for instance in the notes area or any of the layout cells. I have to hold the keys down for an inordinate amount of time and sometimes they are simply ignored.
Hope this helps.
Feel your frustration Corey almost impossible to solve an issue that does not manifest itself on a global basis.

Been trying to upgrade one of my Windows 7s to Windows 10 but it just won't work. After going through the entire download and update process, it ends up on a screen that prompts to either shutdown or troubleshoot. No message of any kind. Upon shutdown and restart I'm back at Windows 7, obviously having rolled back from the update. So frustrating.
-
I had this problem initially, it can be tricky on some machines and one of the most popular reasons is a shortage of space. 20Gb minimum required for the upgrade. There's also plenty of geeky stuff on you tube for these type of errors.
-
Incredibly frustrating game last night. TD just lagged and lagged, took maybe five minutes just to reset the current tournament (we were planning on playing a different one for the third game (rebuy instead of freezeout) but had to give up. Just using the space bar to pause the games was bad enough... Took fourteen minutes this morning just to change the date format in preferences. Keystrokes not being recognised etc etc.
I can't buy this software as things are at the moment - even if ti suddenly started working fine, what's to say the issues won't start up again the next time there's an update?
For the record, I haven't had this issue with any software I have on my machines.
-

After some research I focused on the fact that my VM had 3GB of memory, and there was talk that this was problematic (more would be better). I couldn't seem to add any memory to the VM, or, rather, adding memory didn't increase the memory available to Windows. I assume now this is because it was a 32-bit version of Windows 7. So I started over with a 64-bit version of Windows 7, and successfully upgraded that.
After upgrade I DID in fact experience the latency issue, although, it seems not nearly as pronounced as others have related here. It's missing a keystroke every 20 or 30 keystrokes, and occasionally a mouse click, but nothing worse than that. What I've experienced is somewhat annoying but certainly wouldn't prevent me from running a tournament.
I'll keep trying.
-
Sticky, it's the best there is don't be put off Corey will find a way round it.
-
I know, it's without doubt the best tourney management software I've seen. I just can't use it.
Plus, the evaluation period has expired so I can't do anything with it to see what might make a difference.
-
Any news on this issue, it is becoming increasingly frustrating...
-
I wish there were, but no, I still do not know what is causing the issue. My upgraded image was basically bare (stock Windows install with no applications, patches, or anything installed), so it seems unlikely it is a 3rd-party software conflict. But something is definitely different between a Windows 10 install and a Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade. I'm hoping a Windows patch will fix it, but that becomes less likely every day.
-
Ok thanks for the reply, here's hoping. Interestingly my daughter has a laptop which was a 7 to 10 upgrade and I installed TD on there as an experiment. No latency at all, how frustrating. It's the same windows build number as my PC and the only things that I can imagine being different are the fundamental set up, she is disabled and we got the laptop through an agency and there are limited changes that you can make to the settings as the user is not an administrator, above that I'm utterly baffled. I mean could be a chipset issue? ie VIA/Intel something along those lines ?
-
For what it is worth I downloaded the beta version today and am experiencing this exact same issue. There is no way you can type normally. Just about every click requires you to click two or three times, if you have to click or type multiple times you have to wait a couple of seconds before each transaction.
I too am running windows 10, I believe this laptop came OE with Window 7 or 8. I have no other performance issue with any other app or program.
Thanks
Bill

Same issue here, for about 4 months I can't use TD properly on my laptop :(
I use it on another one, to bad :(
-
With the latest Windows 10 update (KB3194496) I was hoping a fix would have been provided. I did hear from one user that the update did fix this problem. I let KB3194496 install on my Windows 10 PC, but it did not fix it. Yet another user had multiple problems result from KB3194496, yet uninstalling the patch fixed all of them, including this issue.
Results are clearly mixed. Your mileage may vary. The knowledge base page (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3194496) says the fix "includes improvements and fixes to enhance the functionality of Windows 10", and doesn't mention security fixes. Therefore I think it's safe to install and/or remove it if necessary without compromising the security of Windows.
-
You can add me to the latency problem, Corey. Same thing as the others. Have to hit button numerous times to get it to work. I am running Windows 10 with latest updates included. No other programs are running. Currently i can't even load a game but i can exit the program and other buttons work although I have to hit/click several times. I'll keep checking the forum to see if you find out anything
-
I have been unable to load/save/save as or even export my database. For all practical purposes MS has rendered TD 3 inoperable. I hope you can find an answer soon because I think you will be hearing from more and more users about this.

Kerry, Something that has worked for me is to go to your saved tournaments folder and right click a saved tournament and start TD that way. For whatever reason the load/save buttons work for me when I start TD this way. Hope that helps.
-
The Load/Save button is actually a separate issue. I've addressed that in the upcoming version 3.4 (a bandaid fix for it, but it will do the trick). You can get that fix by upgrading to the current beta version (3.4 beta 2). You can download the beta version from the forums: http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=5161.0
-
Loading directly from the save folder did not change my problem. However, loading the beta version did. Although it still has the latency problem but at least I'm up and flying.
-

Corey, given my last post on this subject (above), I'm just letting you know I had a windows update last night and I thought I'd try the TD software to see what happened (had forgotten the evaluation period had expired). As luck would have it, the EP was reset to 30 days.
The above latency was greatly reduced to the point where the software was actually useable. It was still slow in some places (clicking on players to rebuy took a while, that sort of thing), but on the whole, acceptable.
This morning, I updated to the latest Beta version.
Any and every latency issue disappeared. Given the nature of software and hardware, I can't 100% say the two are linked but if anyone still has issues I'd recommend they update to the latest Beta if they haven't already.
Great job on this software BTW, easily the most powerful out there.
-
Thanks so much for the update. The latest beta does have an update that hopefully fixes the issue for most people. The next step will be to just move away from the abandoned framework that the application is currently based on. 3.4 is ridiculously close to complete and I can't wait to finish it so I can get started on the move.
As for the resetting of the evaluation period: it seems Microsoft has taken to cleaning up quite a bit for their big updates. It's a little frustrating but not the end of the world. Some people will get extra time to check out the application. I'm OK with that.
Thanks again for the info!

Put it this way - if it hadn't reset the evaluation period I wouldn't be here now saying how great your software works :)
Interested to see what happens with my other laptop (that one doesn't have the "workaround" applied to it) when I update...
-
It's back..... since Windows update the dreaded latency is back..... will try workaround again.
-
Workaround seems to have sorted it.... thankfully
