error initializing after upgrade to 3.3 from 3.1.1

after updating the software I am getting an initialization error that reads
an unexpected error occurred   message get (...) file is null or not an object. line 1341

program wont start

any suggestions

running IE 11 with all Microsoft updates applied on  windows 7 PC

for anyone interested, thanks for Corey's help, I had a bad preferences file. We created a new one and my problem was resolved...many thanks to Corey for the quick help.

Thanks for the follow-up.  I was on vacation so I've been rather slow to respond to email and forums topics.  In this case, it could be a bug when the software automatically upgrades the preferences, but it seems like only the right combination of factors will cause it to occur, so likely pretty rare (thankfully).
