A few possible features
« on: October 17, 2006, 05:22:48 AM »
Hi Corey

A few questions / requests:

1) Is there a field available that allows the number of bounty chips purchased to be displayed on the main toruney clock screen? If not, can there be? Players often ask how many are in circulation.

2) When we do rebuys during a tourney, in reality we jot these down on paper and every 20 minutes or so we update the software with that info en masse as its not always practical to do this for real in the frenzy of rebuys as they occur. What often happens when administrating the tourney this way is that some players have re-bought more than once between the updates we make. This means that I have to get the rebuy screen up, check them off for a rebuy, close it and then immediately get that screen up again to add the next re-buy (and so on for each re-buy they have done between updates). I appreciate that the way we do it means that the stats associated with the round and time they did the re-buy etc is inaccurate, however, the players (so far) are less interested in knowing exactly when they did the re-buy - so if there was away that would allow us to indicate how many rebuys they are having (with the default being 1) at the time we do that update would be very helpful.

3) Is it possible to add some export HTML preference options, e.g particulalrly background color, font etc. The export to HTML feature is excellent, however, I publish them on our own web site, and it would be nice if I could make them (at least in some way) have the look and feel of the other site pages. Some basic defaults we could set would go a long way towards that. It's not a biggy, but for now I have to edit all the pages separately to change the background color, which is not by any means the end of the world, but is a little onerous.

Just a few there for you to chew on  :)

Keep up the great work!

1) Nope - sounds like a feature request.  There is already one that displays the total amount of money used to purchase bounty chips, so it shouldn't be too hard to add tokens like "total bounty chips purchased", "total bounty chips currently in play", "total bounty money currently in play", etc.

2) I believe this is already on the enhancement list.  Not sure if it will be implemented, as this is a "fringe" feature, as in only a few users would really benefit from this.  If I can figure out a way that does not make it any more difficult for the average user, it might make it in.

3) You can modify the templates yourself, or specify your own templates.  I recommend copying the template file to a new file and modifying it to meet your own needs, and then telling the TD to use your modified file when exporting.  This is outlined in the user guide.

Thanks Corey.

So for 1) are you saying I should be able to create those tokens, or is it something you would need to implement?

On 2) - understood.

On 3) Ah ok - gottit

Thanks

It would need to be implemented.

as for #2, you have so many rebuys that just hitting 'x', clicking on the knocked out player and the one who knocked them out, and answering 'yes' to the rebuy question take stoo long?

 :-\

God, I'd NEVER write it doen on paper, echhh.....

You DO sit yourself next to the computer, right? ;)

No - thats not how I do the rebuys.

I hit "V" and check the names of folks who did rebuys - trouble is you can only check them once per any "V" operation. I only do "X" when they are properly out and in those cases always answer no to rebuys

right, if you're not worried about who knocked who out, then that's fine....

so what it you can't "multiple rebuy" someone at once? they're not "rebuying" multiple times at once.... just hit V every time they bust out, it'll keep track of number of rebuys....

you can't "rebuy" multiple times at once.... if you're talking add-ons, you could just add-on multiple times..... a hell of alot easier than writing it all down then doing it at the end.... why not use the program to do it for you during play?

Ah but I am concerned who knocked who out (as we use bounty chips too)

But let me re-iterate what we do - after the tourney starts there will be 90 minutes where they are allowed to rebuy if they want. This is a manic time and we cant afford to have one of us sit in front of the lappy just to track the rebuys, so we track the rebuys on paper. Every 20 mins or so we transfer that info into TD using "V". The thing is it is not uncommon or someone to have rebought more than once in that 20 min period. For those, I hit "V" twice (or however many times I need to). Don't get me wrong - it's not unworkable that way, just a little awkward at times. I understand the stats associated are a little off this way (as you say in reality they can't rebuy multiple times at once) - but we don't care about when a player rebought particularly - so that is not an issue. As long as the number of rebuys is accurate.

All my suggestion is that on the "V" screen, the row that already shows their name along with rebuys bought so far, maybe there can be a box that has 1 in as the default that can be edited or "rolled up and down".

I agree. When doing tournaments with 300+ rebuys and only so much time to enter in the amounts so players can see the timer is very important. Even if TD could do multi monitor would help. This way you could have the Timer on one screen and all the edit screens on the other.
