Laptop froze then this pop up

Looks like something is hosed with XMLHttpRequest.  First thing to check is to see if it's been disabled in IE.  Open IE, click the gear icon, select Internet Properties, select the Advanced tab, and scroll down to the bottom of all of the Settings.  About 10 or 11 settings from the bottom, make sure "Enable native XMLHTTP support" is checked.
