Title: Version 2.5.3 is available
Post by: Corey Cooper on April 22, 2008, 05:31:33 PM
I discovered just before release of 2.5.3 that the new version check was broken in 2.5 and has remained broken since, so I wanted to make sure everyone knew that version 2.5.3 had been released.

Download at: http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/download.html

Version 2.5.3
======================================================================
New Features:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Added Table Blueprints for displaying dynamic table images on the
Seating Chart screen (with players shown at specific locations
  within the image)
- Added printing to Rounds export, Prizes export, Tables export

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs Fixed:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- For Points for Playing and Tournament Scoring formulas, the variable
"tnr" (for total number of rebuys) was set to the total number of
add-ons; the variable "tna" (for total number of add-ons) was not
  set
- When importing players, an error could occur if the timestamp of
the imported file could not be determined (rare)
- When editing cell properties, if all global property sets were
deleted, an error could occur when tabs were switched (Odd Rounds/
  Even Rounds/Breaks tab) (very rare)
- If the language was changed, an error could occur when the Help
  dialog was displayed (very rare)
- On the Preferences tab, setting the "Decimal point" to an empty
string caused an error (very rare)
- On the Quick Start Wizard, if the current tournament settings had
changed, a confirmation dialog at the end of the wizard displayed,
but the text was missing from the message catalog
- New version alert was broken

And the hits just keep on comin'. When you have time, how about a brief explanation of how to setup table blueprints? Thanks.

Wait a minute...I found'em (at least those included w/app). Now if I can just figure out how to add an 11th seat. Yeah, we occasionally play some "close quarters poker"! ;D

T-Bone, where did you find them?

I've included with the software blueprints and images for an 8-seat round table and a 10-seat racetrack table, 3 different sizes for each one.  The user manual has instructions for configuring the blueprints (see the Seating Chart Screen section).

You could adjust the seating on one of the 10-seat racetrack blueprints and add an 11th seat to achieve your 11-seat table.  I'm really not sure what would be the "easiest" way to do this.  You might use a paint program to determine the coordinates within the image for each seat.  Some might find this very easy, others might find it rather painful - kind of depends on your experience level I suppose.

To see one in action, load up the sample.tdt tournament - I've updated it to use a table blueprint.  I've also included a "DefaultWithTableImages.tlo" layout, which is, as the name implies, the Default layout but using table images (blueprints) instead.

To use a table blueprint in your own layout, go to the Seating Chart Screen, edit the Seating Chart Properties, and press the "Edit Table Images" button.  Add an image/blueprint and press Browse... The file browser should open by default to the "templates" folder with .xml files selected, so you should immediately see the included table blueprints.

T-Bone, where did you find them?

Corey actually answered your question...as always!

I have to say, "this is a great program and forum".  Thanks Corey and T-bone for the fast replies.  I like the fact that the program is always improving.
GREAT JOB!

Well, I successfully added an 11th seat using the ever-popular "trial and error" method. It gave me a rather odd looking seating arrangement, so now I'm working on that using the aforementioned method. Actually, it's kind of fun! Jeez, I need to get a life.  :P

T-Bone,

How were you able to open the .xml file to modify?

T-Bone,

How were you able to open the .xml file to modify?

I used CoffeeCup HTML Editor which will open and allow you to edit XML. I assume other HTML editors will do the same. If not, there are a bunch of XML editors out there...some pretty good free ones, too.

Hey, Corey, any way to add the dealer button to the table blueprint?

Thanks T-Bone...I was trying to edit one last night and was going crazy.  I guess I need a life too.

Hey, Corey, any way to add the dealer button to the table blueprint?

Future enhancement.

Hi! And thanks for a great piece of software!

I love the new feature where you can display dynamic table images!

The only thing is that this seems to only be available on the built-in seating chart screen.
I would love to have this feature when using a seating chart on pages I create my self.

Because we never use more than 2-3 tables in a tounament (home game only) I want to be able to show other info on the seating chart page as well.
(number of players, prizepool, rules etc.) This is to be displayed before tournament starts.

Is this possible?
Or:
Would this be possible in future version?

Not possible now, possibly in a future version.

I like the new feature of inputing table images with the players names.

I was wondering is there is a way of putting a border around each name at the table?  Can it be programed in the .XML file and if so, what's the coding?

There is not.  This is an issue of software vs image, and how complex I wanted the table image stuff to be.  It certainly *could* be modified to allow for things like this, but on the other hand, since you know where the names are going to be, you can modify the image and place borders directly in the image.

Seat numbers were another issue like this.  I initially wasn't going to include a feature for displaying seat numbers, since they could be placed on the image as well.  But I realized that some people may want seat 1 to be at a different seat, and it would be a big hassle to change the image for this.  It would be more convenient to include options in the XML.

Borders around names, I feel, aren't as important.  You know where the names will go, it's a one-time thing for you to add the borders to an image.  That vs. adding more options that will potentially confuse other users.

I like the idea, but I use octagonal table tops and neither of the existing layout styles really look right. Is there anyone out there who could help me please?

Originally I had intended to include a blueprint for an octagonal table, but honestly I couldn't find a decent image for one.  And I'm no good with Photoshop or Gimp.  If you give me an image, I'll create the blueprint for it.

Cheers Corey, is this any good?

Please note, the seating positions are on the corners not the flat sides

Attached is the blueprint for this table.

The problem with the image is that it has a white background, as opposed to a transparent background.  This will look fine if your Seating Chart screen background color is white, but not so great otherwise.  You can edit the image to change the white background to transparent if you've got the patience...  Otherwise you'll probably want to change the font color for player names.

Save the blueprint (xml) file to your "templates" folder (or where ever you want, really).  Save the table image posted by badbeat to your "images" folder.

The file name is a misnomer, sorry about that.

Cheers Corey, I've changed the background colour and the name so it works a bit better now. If anyone can change it to transparent, that would be even better.

Cheers Phaze that's great, I've only got paint, which only just upgraded from black n white.  :P

Yeah, sorry, kinda brain-farted on that one.  I was thinking I would have to actually edit the image and do some painting, but it was really just a case of making "white" the transparent color.  Doh.
