Title: Quick question on upgrade
Post by: xiipack on December 08, 2013, 11:34:51 AM
Will the main data structure stay the same if I upgrade?  Or will I lose info...

Thanks in advance

every time I have updated TD I have never lost any data nor have I needed to alter any of my tournament templates, so I am sure you will be ok.

remember to back up your data before you upgrade.

Stuart probably meant to include this:

The first item in the red box is Take a backup of your data before you upgrade. It's quick and easy! See this FAQ (http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/faq.html#faq32) entry for details.

The TD software is backwards compatible.  This means that any version can read data files saved by any earlier version of the software.   So, in a way, there's really no "upgrade" process.  You just install the new version (which installs over the older version).  The software will just read your existing data, just like the last version did.  It should be completely seamless.

BUT, of course, always take a backup first.  Because, you know, $#!+ happens.
