Beta Testing / beta receipts
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:04:08 PM »
Hi Corey.

I think I found a bug in the receipts funtion of the current beta release.

In the Preferences tab, it is possible to set different salespersons for each receipt.  However, when doing the buy-ins, it is now not possible to select a salesperson (you currently can do this on version 2.5.12), despite having multiple salepersons on record.

Not really a big deal for me, but I know there are some others out there that are using this feature, and I just thought that I would point this out.

Of course, I could be doing something wrong....

Mahound appears to be referring to version 2.6 (still in beta),
Yup forgot that i was using 2.6.
To be honest i dont know why any one isn't using it,  a lot easier to use, and never had any problems or bugs  at all with it.

To be honest, I was waiting for one of two things to happen before I made the switch:

a)  Full regular release or
b)  Our season to end

I didn't really want to switch over in the middle of our season and have to learn how to do it all over again.  Now that our season is over, I'll most likely be making the download shortly to see what all the buzz is about!

Gentlemen, thanks so much for your replies.

Corey, you pretty much hit the nail on the head as to what I'm looking to accomplish, and you are exactly right in that not every player is involved in the satellite and championship tournaments.  Perhaps I should have been more clear on this.

Here's the way we work it:  We have 11 regular tournaments in our season, and the best 9 results are used to calculate points.  I have the formulae for this and it works like a charm.

In order to qualify for either of the post-season events, a player must have played in at least 6 tournaments, so even in this instance, as we have a number of casual players, not everyone qualifies.  The winner of the satellite wins a seat at the championship, which consists of the top 8 point earners plus the satellite winner.  So as you observed, not all players will be playing in the satellite or championship events.

I guess what I could do is filter out the those two tournaments, record the results, and then enter them manually in the source code .html that I use on our website, unless of course you have any other ideas...

Regardless, thank you so much for checking into this for me.

Help Me / Need help with average points
« on: June 07, 2011, 12:19:43 AM »
Hi all.

I run a league in which we keep stats, one of which is average points.  All players are awarded points based on how they finish.  We also have a satellite and a championship tournament, where no points are awarded.

What I noticed is that when I do the end of the season stats, while all of the points and $$$ stats are correct, the average points totals are thrown off because TD includes the satellite and championship tournaments as awarding "zero" points to everyone that played in those tourneys.

My question is:  Is there any way that I can filter out the satellite and championship tournaments in the average points stat, but keep them for the other stats?

General Discussion / Re: Let it Ride Bonus

I found this:

http://www.wsgc.wa.gov/docs/game_rules/let_it_ride_bonus.pdf

It's a .pdf file that not only has the rules of the game, but also a full-fledged picture of the layout that you'll be able to magnify.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Suggestions / Re: Receipts
« on: October 16, 2009, 06:55:34 PM »
OK; here's the template.

I deliberately left the codeline for our league logo in the code; this will need to be changed for your own purposes.  Just go to the line that has the following code: "C:\Program Files\The Tournament Director 2.3\images\NJPT logo text.gif".  Remove this code, and replace it with the code for your own logo (make certain you use the quotation marks!).  You can also just replace it with text if you so chose.

This file can be edited using the standard Notepad program.  Open the .xml file (it should open, with an "x" indicating the missing logo), then on your browser click "View", then scroll down to "Source"; the .xml file now appears as it was written.  Right-click, then "Select All"; then right-click again, then "Copy".  Open Notepad, right-click and "Paste"; now the file can be edited as you might see fit.  You can save as an .txt file, or save with an .xml extension, which I would recommend just for consistency sake.  I would also suggest saving the file with a different name and keeping the original, just in case there were any mistakes made during editing.  After you save, you can then place the new template in the TD Template's directory, then select it within the program by going to the Preferences tab, clicking the Receipts button, and selecting the new template.  That should do the trick.

If you are having any problems with this, just let me know and I'll try to help.

I would very strongly suggest visiting www.homepokertourney.com.  There you will see all kinds of league setups and you can get plenty of ideas on how to put your league together.  A very valuable resource!

Very nice job with these files; Great job!

I've done something like this for my own needs, but I wasn't certain there would be any interest in it.  I guess perhaps I was wrong.

Again, great job!

Consider it done!

I've pretty much left all of the info on the receipt intact within this file; this includes my logo.  If you would like to place your own logo on the receipt, then the template will need to be modified accordingly.  Just substitute my logo with the location of your own logo, in quotations, and you should be good to go.  Of course, there will be size considerations here, so you might have to modify the size of your logo too in order for it to fit properly.

The barcode was placed on the receipt primarily to take up space, although it does have some info in it, like the player ID number (three digits), the buyin amount, and the tournament date.  You can modify this info, too, with anything that you might wish to include.

In order for the receipts to work properly, one of the following two conditions must be met:

1.  On the "Preferences" tab, you might wish to check the box marked "Automatically seat players at buy-in".  Or you might wish to
2.  Pre-seat all of your players prior to buy-in.  This could be used if you already know who and how many you have beforehand.

Before you make any modifications, I would very strongly suggest saving a copy of the file with a different name; this way the original won't be overwritten.

If anyone needs help with this, feel free.

Hey Flipflop...I just saw your post.

If you would like, I can send you the template that I use for the receipt that is shown in the other post.  If you would like to change it and/or add information, I think I can help you out with that, too.

Help Me / Re: Prize Calculation
« on: March 22, 2009, 11:58:26 PM »
Not certain that there is a formula for this, although if there is, I'm certain Corey can come up with it.

In the meantime, I think I have an answer for you, although it would involve a few steps:

1.  Configure your prizes as you have described, using the percentages in your example (1st: 50%; 2nd: 30%; 3rd: 20%).
2.  After buying in all of the players for the tournament and just before you start, go back to the prizes tab and change 2nd and 3rd place to a fixed amount awarded, and make it equal to the monetary value for that position (re: $75 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd).  Also, now change 1st place's percentage to "100%", and the rest of the prize money will be allocated here.

From this point forward, all rebuys and add ons will go to 1st place, while 2nd and 3rd will be the fixed amount.

Kind of a roundabout way of going about it, but it works.  Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: PENALTY FOR RE BUYS
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:41:12 PM »
I think they are right; one should be assessed a penalty for a rebuy.

I'm currently in the third season of running a league, and we have had the rebuy penalty from the beginning (We also use Dr. Neau's formula).  Everyone is aware of this, so hopefully it encourages better play among the players.  What would be the incentive if a person could bust out knowing that they could rebuy and then go on to win without penalty?  I think someone who wins without having rebought should have that win count for more points than the person who wins after a rebuy.

If I can use a hypothetical:  Player A wins 5 tournaments without having rebought, and Player B wins 5 tournaments rebuying each time.  Who's the better player?  Or taking it a step further; same circumstances, but now in the 11th tournament, Player B finishes in first after a rebuy yet again, and Player A finishes second this time, again not rebuying at all.  Should player B have the higher season point total at this point?

Honestly, having the experience of my own league as a guide, I do truly believe that the rebuy penalty encourages players to play better.

Now, if you are trying to build up the pot for each tournament and your championship, then I guess that would be a whole other matter.  Also, you say that you are 2/3 of the way through a season?  I think you shouldn't make any rule changes at this time; people might get ticked off.  You might wish to discuss this with your group, and then make any changes for the start of the next season.

Anyway, just my $.02.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Edit .jpg images?
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:15:05 AM »
I did indeed use Photoshop; I converted your .jpg images to Photoshop format, then removed the white areas using the "magic wand", then saved the new image as a .gif.  The entire process took me about 5 minutes to do all of the chips.

Photoshop is somewhat expensive, however, and the learning curve is rather steep; I find that I learn to do something new almost every time I use it.  There are features there that I have not even begun to figure out how to use.

But I have been able to do some really cool things with it.  If you would like to see, check this out:

Just scroll down the page, and you can see some of the logos that I was able to make for our league using Photoshop.
