Multiple day one tourney help
« on: September 18, 2010, 10:57:02 PM »
Aloha all,

I am running a tournament with multiple day ones (like the WSOP) and want to know the best way to keep track of the players. The logisitics are as follows:
Day 1A we play until there are 20 players left.
Day 1B we have new players or players who want to rebuy and we play until there are 20 players left.
Day 2 we combine the two day 1s players and continue the tournament. The issue is how to keep track of the chips and prize money.

Any suggestions?

Mahalo

Save the tourney after day one. Set up the rebuys for how you want (sounds like one per player). then play day two. save again, and bring the file back up again for day three.

EDIT: Also want to make sure that you have it set up to track players, so make sure that it's NOT on simple mode.

the players who have made it through from day 1 can be 'dumped' into 2 tables called day3-1 etc. at the end of day 1 consolidate your remaining players onto these tablesand then you can register and re-buy your day 2 players and seat them onto theavailable tables.

I think that is going to be the easiest method of doing it.

Using these methods works. Although, I would like to have the option to start Day 3 at round 23 without having to CTRL-N each round.

unfortunately 'Flights' is not an option for TD2, perhaps something Corey would consider adding in future, but likely a massive undertaking on the current software, flights is multiple day1 tourneys on the casino software i use, where you set-up a flighted tournament and then register players for flight1 or flight2 duplicates can be registered on either flight, the prizepool and merging onto day 2 is handled by combining flights when initiated, which would create a new draw, combined prizepool, combined total entries etc

If Corey decides to incorporate something like this into the software it should be included only in the commercial version...

He started this so him and is friend could play a descent game, and what knott .... kinda like he had are game on his mine too, i take it to hart that you decide to make whats what to the software regardless,... Non Commercial or Commercial we all want a good program and.. i'm one of many that uses non.. we play a freindly home game so leave us out......BIG GUY / little guy

Jody's quote is valid and makes perfect business sense.  A facility to run flights on a tournament would suggest commercial use of the software, it's therefore prudent to be thinking along the lines that such facilities should only be provided to commercial users who operate the software with a commercial license, the home user would have no real benefit of such facilities anyway nor would not need the speed or abilities of such a feature.

It seems reasonable that there should be seperation of the program at some level in order to protect commercial license holders, otherwise what's the point in us paying the extra substantial difference to operate in such a way.

Makes perfect business sense to me, 1 member 1 vote, but who has the fattest wallet cannot be ignored either, it is a business after all.

A private home game that has multiple day 1s? This is a first I've heard of this. But let's back up a step and look at the cost. When compared to other commercial clocks on the market, TD is unbeatable. Genesis is good but not as flexible but comes with a huge price tag. Dr. Neau is also not as flexible with a monthly cost for the commercial license. I currently have two or three TD licenses to my name. The license fee is cheap and the ability to run multiple day1s and multiple day2s at the current cost of a commercial license makes TD the premium product on the market. And for a business to invest in the less than $100 for the license is incredible. I have worked for 3 poker clubs so far and I have converted them all to TD not because of the low cost, but because it is a powerhouse. Besides...almost every software either has a basic and pro version (or home and professional).

As a non-commercial user, I would have to agree that it's almost impractical for someone like me to use flight tourney capabilities. Sure, it would be nice, perhaps, if I got say, close to 1.5x capacity to use for a few rounds, but would it be needed? I don't think so. Yes, there usually is a difference between commercial and non users, and I don't know if there is, but if com licensees are paying more, I definitely agree that they should have some added features that regulars shouldn't.

But, that's my two cents worth :)
