Reentry Tournaments
« on: November 13, 2011, 10:38:13 AM »
Since re-buy games seem to going out of style and reentry games seem to be rising, any chance of making a spot on the games tab for reentry?  Maybe even choosing reentry or re-buy option?  What do you think?  I have not downloaded v3 yet so if it is there, please disregard this message.  Thanks

Isn't a re- entry and a re-buy the same thing?

Nearly,

A re-entry is entering the tourney as a new player, new seat, PAY ENTRY + RAKE.

It's a casino thing, make more money.

You can rake the rebuys.  I'm not going to really question why the casinos (or anyone else) would do this.  But, when someone buys in again, as opposed to rebuying, isn't it the same thing?  What I mean is, as far as the software is concerned: another player is buying into the tournament, and actually it is the same player that has bought into this tournament before.  A rebuy accomplishes the same thing.

Or is there some subtlety to it that the software doesn't take into consideration when rebuying?

Rebuys typically don't get reseated.  Rebuys typically get 100% full stacks.  Reentries may have been in the process of getting blinded down.

TD, any vers, will not have ability to track chip stacks in real time. you can update at anytime, but I dont see it happening anytime soon (realtime update, that is).

We don't do re-entries in our club, but if we did a reason to have a re-entry feature is that we rake only the initial entries and not rebuys

Live chip counts have already came to the UK, Genting Casinos have launched an RF setup in chips and cards which gives a live feed at Liverpool Circus Casino, the tables receive the card information which can the be streamed in a time delayed live stream on the internet, the chips also will have RF tags, so the pot and stacks are all counted in real time, even counting the chips in play will be real time, instead of (entries x initial chips + rb's/ao's), The tournament software so far does not support the technology but apparently will be rolled out eventually, so the TD can access specific information on stacks, etc from the the desktop.

OK, but you can still zero-out the rake when you rebuy someone to accomplish this.  Are you saying that a tournament would allow both rebuys AND re-entries, where re-entries would be raked but rebuys would not?

My former club used to allow 1 rebuy per entry. If a player took their rebuy and and busted out they were allowed a re-entry. Each table started out with 10 stacks regardless of how many players registered. A player, after busting can re-enter while there are stacks remaining (and rebuy on that stack). Once the first break came around all remaining stacks were removed.
I personally didn't care for this idea. Freezeout tournaments turned into rebuys with this idea...it sucked. My current club has the policy that if you bust...you bust

The whole reason I asked was I just ran a private rebuy game and the players did not get it (most of them played poker, not NLHE).  I can create a cell to say reentries on the layout and rake the rebuy.  Works for me.  Thanks everyone.
