Beta Testing / Colouring My Layouts
« on: August 25, 2016, 12:20:41 AM »
So I'm about to start a new season and since I bought a new laptop under Mr. Cooper's recommendation I'm using the newest beta version, which is working fine.

I did run into a small glitch, though.  Nothing that keeps me from using the software, but I cannot change the colours of any layouts.  I have several because it just keeps my home game interesting - changing with the seasons, special events, holidays, etc.

I am able to change font, font size, and so on.  Clicking on 'background' brings me to the next step without a problem, but then nothing happens when I click 'color'.  Oddly enough, the new option 'invert color' works, but that's it.

It's nothing major; we still can play our game.  Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

Help Me / Re: Windows 10 Forcing Me To Return to Blind Valet
« on: July 19, 2016, 08:29:01 PM »
Dear Corey:

I have to say, close call. But thank you for this (quick) fix.   I've only briefly checked the 3.4b version you suggested using, and everything I was having problems with 3.3 seem to be working fine (although I haven't tried an actual tournament yet).

So the question now is, what's wrong with 3.4b, really; what's keeping you from posting it as official and not beta?  Nicely done!

Thanks again.  I was dreading having to use another software.  Will let you know if I run into quirks again.

Syl.

Help Me / Windows 10 Forcing Me To Return to Blind Valet
« on: July 18, 2016, 06:28:39 AM »
After 3 years of amazingly loyal services from TD, it's time to part ways.

I had to buy a new laptop because my old one just had a mind of its own.  Plus it was pretty old and it was time to move on.

Enter Windows 10. After days and days of trying to make TD work, of browsing through the forum for solutions - the issues I encounter are the same as what I've been reading here (load, save buttons, etc.) - it is with extreme regret that I will put the TD aside (for now?).  I hope a solution will come soon because now I need to return to my excel sheets for points and scores and charts, and Blind Valet for clock.

I run a weekly tournament and I learned to depend on TD.  I'm a pacifist but I'm learning to hate the folks at Microsoft for trying to reinvent the wheel over and over.  Clearly they know nothing of the saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it."

I'll be checking on the forum once in a while, hoping for a solution.  I'm guessing TD is losing plenty of customers.  These are sad, sad days for me and my players.

Thanks TIMMER; I will try that for the right column.  As for the left, I don't want to show chip count when someone is out - that would be pretty rough indeed.

The list on the left would be: seat #, player's name, and stack they started with (or % of stack related to total table chip count).  I'm realizing though that it is very similar to the Player Ranking layout page, only with starting stack... Wondering if there isn't a way to do that...

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / New Layout with player names and stack...
« on: January 31, 2015, 03:34:53 AM »
Hi:

I'm trying to create a new layout but I don't really understand half of what I am doing or need to do.  The buttons I want don,t exist, hence my problem.
My season is coming to an end and I want a special layout for the Final Table event.  Of a league of 22 players, 9 make it to the end event with different stacks.
What I'd like is to see on the left the list of players with their respective stacks, and on the right side a chart of finishing position that I can modify as we go along during the game (say a player is busted out, he would automatically make it to the list).  I realize the right column could be tricky to create, so I'm open for suggestion.

I have the middle one already done; easy with the buttons already created: Title, clock, blinds and antes, total chips, average stacks, and time elapsed.

Something like this the pic I inserted (but prettier).  Anyone else ever did something of the sort?

Help Me / Re: modify tournament history

Hi:

Sry for late replyin'.

Of course, it worked and everything is fine now.  You know, I don't know why anyone organizing tournaments would use any other software.  If it's not perfect, it's seriously damn close!

Thx for your help & support & great work TD!

Help Me / Re: modify tournament history

Ok, part 2.  I think I am able to recover the game from last night by loading "tournament-20140918.tdt.20140919-091643".

So now, really the problem lies in the 2 original mistakes.  "Julie" was busted out 8th, before Omar (who was busted 7th) and Sylvain (who was busted out 5th).  How do I fix that?

Second, John was not busted out by Chris, but by Sylvain.  How do I fix that as well?

Thank you again, TD community.

Help Me / modify tournament history
« on: September 19, 2014, 03:44:33 AM »
Hi:

I realized I made a mistake once the tournament was over.  So, after a game over, I was looking to correct my mistakes, which were two.

1.  I busted the players out in the wrong order.
2.  Also, I assigned the wrong hitman to one of the busted out player.

So I tried to go and fix it up by going on the forum and seeking solutions.  One solution that comes often is to go on the player ranking, right click on the player, undo the bust and bust him out again using the correct hitman... Well, that did not go well because now my player's ranking is busted out 4th when he was actually busted out 8th.

Result: many things now lay wrong.  The busted out order is wrong, but also the playing time (I try to correct everything the morning after.  By doing so, the clock was restarted and it now indicated that player has been playing for 14 hours!)

My stats are now completely messed up.  I thought maybe I could fix everything by modifying the tournament history, but that does not seem possible.

This is my tournament history:

What i really want is to undo the last 5 actions above, and correct the order in which Julie, Omar, and Sylvain were taken out.  The problem also is the amount of time the players were in matters in our stats in the long run.

What do I do now?  Please, please help me.  I'm not touching anything until I get help.

Grateful TD Beginner.

Actually, I am awarding prizes as well, depending on the amount of players, but it's rather irrelevant to the points players get.

5 to 7 players, 2 places pay.  8-12 players, 3 places pay.

As for the rebuys, players can rebuy twice, and yes, they lose 1/2 a point everytime.

Thanks for the formulas - I will try that today (mock game).

Sry for the late reply - I've been away.

Yes, by all means, option 2 appeals to me.  Tried & Tested & Approved!  Thank you very much.  Now I can manage the game from my table seat!

12
OK, so I think I have figured out what I want for my little group of 15 players.

We will have between 30 and 35 games in total, and points count toward a final table spot.  Top 9 in points get a seat.

Points shall go as followed:

  • 5 points for 1st place
  • 3 points for 2nd place
  • 2 points for 3rd place
  • 1 point for the bubble
  • 0.25 for hits
  • 0.25 for playing a game
  • -0.5 for rebuys if a player finishes in the money (as some claim aggressive players who rebuy 1-2-3 times should not get the same reward as those who do not)

That's it.  Now, how do I turn this into a formula.  The minus is the tricky part.  Little help and feedback appreciated.

Thank you.

I think I realize now that there is too big a discrepancy between a tournament winner and a 2nd place.

What I liked about it is that people were really working hard for it.  What I don't like about it is that's the only thing people cared about...

Thoughts?

Suggestions / simple mouse click
« on: June 22, 2014, 07:58:10 AM »
Hi, it may seem silly (or maybe it's just me who can't figure out how to do this) but it would wonderful if we could start/pause the ongoing tournament from a mouse click.  I am the tournament director but I also play in the game.  I used to use Blind Valet before buying TTD3 and I'd use the mouse as my card guard; that was really practical, but now I must get up every time there may be a need for a pause. I cannot right-click to get to the drop down menu because everything appears way too small from where I may sit (different seat everytime, as you can guess).

Help?

15
Hi, just my own system I created, but here is what I did with a weekly tournament I organized just last year prior to buying TTD3.  I will try not to forget any details, and I would like your opinion on it, then maybe get someone's help on how to incorporate these "formulas" into the TD.

I had a bank of 15 players that either came to play or not, so number of players varied every week between 5 and 10.  We played in total 30 games in the season.  100$ for buyin, plus 25$ for the final table pot, plus 25$ for bounty.  Buyin got the player 1500 in chips.  I incorporated a possibility of 3 rebuys at 100$ each (75$ + 25$ bounty); that's also a 1500$ in chips.

Winner would take all at a 4-player game.  5 to 7 players, 1st place got 70%, 2nd place 30% (standard).  8-12 players, the usual 50-30-20 (although I was tempted to go 55-30-15 for some reason, but in the end nobody cared - all a player would want is to gain more points/chips for the final table).

These are the standings I take into account:

  • The weekly winner gets 1500 in chips.
  • Second place gets 300 only if in the money.
  • Third place gets 150 only if in the money.
  • Everyone gets 25 just for playing a game.
  • Every hit gets 25.

That's it.  What does everyone think?  Does that sound like a legitimate system?

Now I'm sure it's probably easy but I can't seem to figure out how to make these calculations happen in the Tournament Director.

Thank you all for participating in this post.
