Big Tourney - multiple heats
« on: September 04, 2008, 08:40:40 AM »
Hi,

I am about to direct a big tourney with 320 entries, but due to missing place, we only have 16 tables. So we decided to split all entrants into two heats. We let 160 players play for 6 hours or until they are down to 80, whichever happens first. Afterwards on the next day we start a final heat, in which we join those players still having chips.

My question:
How do I make that work in the Tournament Director? I will try around and see if I find a way, but maybe someone here already did something similar or knows the software better. Every hint and help is welcome.

After some thinking and trying, my only idea would be to run the first 2 heats as separate tourneys until they are down to 80 players each and then afterwards create a new tourney for the next day into which I add every player still in the tourney manually (perhaps even enter their chipcounts from day 1). Just would have been really nice, if there was any way, that could be done more elegantly and quicker/simpler.

I would be grateful for any ideas

a desperate floorman

Now that is a real cool question... Sorry I don't have the answer but am interested to see the responses

I think your way works well except for player placement, unless you stipulate that players entering the second heat know that they will be randomly placed

thank you,

Our tourney starts in a couple of hours, just came home from preping the hall, we rented for the Weekend.

I just used the leagues function to put all my players into leagues "Heat 1" and "Heat 2" second to the pokerclub they really come from, as it is a club challenge.
Here in Germany the only way to play organised poker legally outside the casinos is in sportclubs, where there is no cash at stake, but that's another story

now i can easily "buy in" all players for each heat, really there is no fee, it's a freeroll

the remaining players at the end of heat 1 and 2 will be put into league heat 3. Sunday i just "buy in" all Heat 3 members and it should work fine i think. I just have to let my dealers count the chips at the end of the heats as they will be taken to the final Heat.

Maybe in one of the next versions this could be made a little easier, as it is more and more usual to split all players into multiple heats.

Wish me luck, not to fail and to be a fair and competent Tournament Director this weekend. I'll keep you updated, how it went.

Now I will just check, if I find some cool sound themes for tomorrow and then catch a few hours of sleep

Have a great weekend
