General Discussion / Re: Ideas for Teams / Leagues
« on: January 30, 2007, 07:38:55 AM »
We have at least 12-week leagues.

Each week EVERY player pays an extra £3.00 league fee on top of the normal tourney buy-in. These £3's are collected and used to payout league prizes at the end of the league. So if the average turnout is 40 players then there is 40 * 12 * 3 in the league fund (or £1440). This is chopped in a similar fashion to a tournament prize split., e.g 50% for 1st, 30% for 2nd etc based on the league points they earned during the league.

The final 9 players will all get points (but not all necessarily money - i.e. if only 28 players we only pay money to top 6, but all 9 will still get points) - 1st gets 10, 2nd 8, 3rd 7 down to 9 who gets 1 point.

Sometimes we may have a sponsor who may offer a big tourney seat as a prize, e.g. EPT Copenhagen. We still collect the £3's and in this case the winner of the league gets the seat and the league func collected paid to 2nd place onwards. The number of places is largely determined by the amount of money collected. Also, these special leagues are also longer - more like 26-week leagues.

Cool - thanks Corey.

Do you have an ETA for the next release (I won't hold you to it - promise  ;) )

Help Me / backup of "Saves" doesnt't seem to work fully
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:11:56 AM »
Hi

Backing up the saves folder using the backup button on the database tab was working fine until I added additional save folders under the "saves" folder. Now, whilst the backup merrily include those folders in its zip file, they appear to be empty?

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Well, in reality random seat assignments should be restricted to initial seating and table break ups only IMHO as it is unfair to let someone play a BB more than once in a round which is likely if randomness is used all the time.

I use TD to tell me that a person needs to move and just note the "old" and "new" suggested tables and then tell it not to move anyone - I then move the BB from the suggested "Old" table to the suggested "new" table and then reflect that move in TD by dragging that person's name from the old table to the new table on the "tables" tab. If 2 people need to move I will do the same.

However, in the event a table is broken up and therefore there's a whole bunch of moves, I just accept TD's suggestions and click "ok move everyone" button - which is all you can realistically do anyway. Likewise in a casino - when a table breaks you randomly draw a card for a new seat. This is is the only time that randomness should come into play (aside from initial seat draw).

At our club and UK casinos the player who is about to be the big blind is moved and positioned on the new table in a vacant seat (if more than one vacant seat is available he is seated so that he will become the the big blind as soon as possible).

If that seat happens to be the next big blind then he is the big blind straight away (which he was about to be anyway on the old table). If he is positioned as the small blind or dealer he must wait until AFTER the button passes him before he can be dealt in (i.e. he becomes the cutoff), otherwise he is dealt in stratightaway

Our tourneys have one or two couples who request that they are initially separated. I do what I can to accommodate by letting TD do its normal random thing - if they end up on the same table I just manually swap them with another player. I appreciate this is a pain if you have lots of couples.

Either way, they know that it is only for the initial seating. If after 5 mins they end up having to move to their partner's table they have to accept that. That way you can accommodate it but not in a hard to maintain way.

Doesn't help the chap who is inundated with couples - but just my twopenneth worth

It's not toooooo difficult - but a "dummies" book on ASP would be a start if your website host supported it - might be a bit of a sledgehemmer to crack a nut - essentially tho u would upload the csv file to your site and tell ASP to treat it as a datasoiurce - u can then run queries on it.

Indeed it is - that's exactly what I ended up doing when I asked Corey this some time back  :-)

For that scenario of 24 players needeing a 9 seat final table I have 3 x 8 seater tables - once we get to 9 players I just right click on the last table and insert a seat - then hit the suggest movement button. This way you have consistant looking tables i.e all same number of seats until required. Just another way of doing the same sort of thing - many ways to skin that cat.

Help Me / Re: Hitmen when there are Rebuys

Ok - I stand corrected re the software's behaviour. However, I still maintain that in a rebuy a hit is not just a hit. I guess we'll all have to agree to disagree   :)

General Discussion / Re: Rebuy's
« on: October 29, 2006, 05:28:37 AM »
Because in a rebuy, playing great isn't enough during the rebuy period - most people (especially good players) use the rebuy period to gamble a lot more with a view to ammassing chips - as such your play should adjust to that or at least take it into account.

Once it becomes a freezeout - generally those that continue playing as they did in the rebuy period will not last very long. However, 'cos its poker, things don't always go to plan. It's just as possible for someone to play crappily during the rebuys but get lucky and then get busted out by a good play after the rebuys were done. Works both ways.

You are right - X allows a hit to be started - but if they rebuy then the hit is cancelled. As it should be IMHO

Ah but I am concerned who knocked who out (as we use bounty chips too)

But let me re-iterate what we do - after the tourney starts there will be 90 minutes where they are allowed to rebuy if they want. This is a manic time and we cant afford to have one of us sit in front of the lappy just to track the rebuys, so we track the rebuys on paper. Every 20 mins or so we transfer that info into TD using "V". The thing is it is not uncommon or someone to have rebought more than once in that 20 min period. For those, I hit "V" twice (or however many times I need to). Don't get me wrong - it's not unworkable that way, just a little awkward at times. I understand the stats associated are a little off this way (as you say in reality they can't rebuy multiple times at once) - but we don't care about when a player rebought particularly - so that is not an issue. As long as the number of rebuys is accurate.

All my suggestion is that on the "V" screen, the row that already shows their name along with rebuys bought so far, maybe there can be a box that has 1 in as the default that can be edited or "rolled up and down".

No - thats not how I do the rebuys.

I hit "V" and check the names of folks who did rebuys - trouble is you can only check them once per any "V" operation. I only do "X" when they are properly out and in those cases always answer no to rebuys
