Monthly Tournament Setup
« on: November 20, 2008, 12:04:29 AM »
I think this is a really newbish question but I don't know the answer.  But I am hosting a 12 month play once a month tournment.  Players pay 20 dollars a month and 10 of it goes to the end of the year tournment.  I keep the same 10 players each month.  For each month do I have to start a new tournament file?

I am going to keep standings and pay out the winner of the points at the end of the 12 months.  I also am wondering if it can keep track of the larger pot?

Thank you,

Nick

Yeah, you'll need a new tournament each month. But, if all elements are constant, you can load the first tournament, reset the tournament and save it with a new file name (date, tournament #, whatever). It's pretty easy to do. Someone else will need to answer your question re tracking additional monies.
If it ain't naked, deep-fried or poker-related, I ain't interested!

yes your money will be counted... In the program (and in casinos and cardrooms) its called a rake... What you will wanna do is create a league that all your players will be a part of, and create a season. A season can be called Year 1, or Season 1, or 2008 Season, or whatever. A league would be the name of your club. On the Game tab you would say its a $20 buyin fee and the rake would be $10. After you get a couple games in (**important** every tournament game has to have the league and season entered in on the game tab for this to work properly), you can go to the stats tab and filter in your league and season title, refresh touranments, and you will have the standings for that season of that league. You can choose more than the stats that are on default. By default there should be a rake category so you can see how much each individual contributed to the rake and you will see a rake total as well

If you need me to break this down a bit more, just lemme know... but you should be able to fiddle around and figure most of it out =)

Thank you for the replies.  Very good information!

Once one game is over, do I have to save that file and keep it?  Or can I just reset and use the same one over again as long as I have a league and season specified?  I think from the second post I need to save it and then start a new one.  So from that it would just make sense to keep one as a template and just save a copy of it every time.

Save each tournament as its own file.  Very important.  T-Bone was illustrating that it's easy to get a new tournament going after you've run your first one, because you can simply load the last tournament, reset it (press the Reset button on the Game tab), and then save it as a new file.  You'll probably need to tweak it a little bit, but most of your tournament settings will already be configured, since your next tournament will likely be very similar to your last tournament.

Or save it as a tournament template before playing, that way you're all set up and ready to go. Just save as new file each time.

Is there a template setup for an entire tourney?  Or just each specific section?  Like I know there is a prize template, I know there is a rounds template.  But can you just under the game tab choose save and and then there woudl be a template option there?

On the Preferences tab, press the Config Files button.  Here you can set a default tournament file, which includes all aspects of the tournament.

yeah I never searched for the template stuff, because the beginning of this question started differently as it ended....  But both helped me a lot actually and are exactly what I needed to know.
