Help Me / AllowRebuy '-1'
« on: December 24, 2020, 01:46:01 PM »
Some xml exports of my tournament files have the value for AllowRebuys set to -1.
I have tried to reproduce this to see the difference between 0, 1, and -1.
Allowed: 1
Not allowed: 0
???: -1

I have tried all the combinations I can think of (in the current version of TD) so I am thinking maybe this was only in an older version?

It isn't a problem, just something I want to understand better.

Help Me / Point calculation seems... off.
« on: February 17, 2017, 07:22:16 PM »
We have been running, trusting the output from the 'Summary'and export functions. But when I check them manually, there is quite a discrepancy.  It is quite possible that I am missing something.

For example, our last tournament had 15 players. Using the following formula,

Code: [Select]
(sqrt(n*bc*bc/tc)/sqrt(r+nr))+(2*nh)
n       = number of players
bc      = buyin cost
r       = rank (place)
nr      = number of rebuys
tc      = total cost
nh      = number of hits (bounties)

From the Summary for the top 5 players, I get the following points:
Code: [Select]
Brandon L      50.00
Adam            22.68
Cap'n (ret.)   19.43
Buddy          25.50
Slick            12.18

None of these players re-bought, nor do we allow add-ons. The buy in is $50 with a  $10 bounty.
Code: [Select]
Brandon Adam Cap’n Buddy Slick
n 15 15 15 15 15
bc 50 50 50 50 50
r 1 2 3 4 5
nr 0 0 0 0 0
tc 60 60 60 60 60
nh 6 1 1 3 0

Points 37.00 19.68 16.43 18.50 11.18

These numbers obviously don't match up. Can I get a pointer or two... so I can understand where my issue(s) is/are??

I recall seeing some posts a while ago about keeping money out for a TOC. IIRC, the suggestion was to use the Rake field. I did that last year, and TBH, I think I shorted some people.  An astute player at last week's game said "There is $800 in the pot, but you are only paying out $600, why?" Well, I looked and he was correct. the payouts totalled $600, there were 15 players, plus one rebuy, at $50 per. That equals $800. I have been using the rake field to take in the extra $20 from players each buy in to help inflate the ToC we run. The top 10 players (points wise) get to play a $100 buy in tournament with the extra from all the buy ins added.

When I collect the money from each player, I grab $80. $50 to the current prize pool, $10 for a bounty chip, and $20 for the ToC.

I had already removed the $300 from the $1200 total intake. But I in order to get the prizes to work, I had to put in a 'House contribution' of $200. This is going to throw my prizes off each month (if I even remember to do this). Did I do something wrong? Is there some other field I can use instead that doesn't get subtracted from the current tournament's pool?

General Discussion / Player export --- request
« on: February 12, 2016, 02:59:47 PM »
Corey, I am wondering if there is a way to build more custom queries from the 'database'. What I am looking for is essentially a way to query things like 'last time played', 'total tournaments played', 'most frequent <timeslice> played', etc. IIRC, you have stated that this isn't really stored as any type of "database" but rather reads in the appropriate files and builds a temporary DB in memory, then allows for export from there... If I am correct in that thinking, then I'll have to find another way.. I have been running this software for quite some time now, and have many players that have come and gone. I'd like to archive those that will never return, and get some cool stats on those that still play. Ideas? Any chance the 'next' version will have a MySQL/PostGres back end?

Help Me / ToC consideration(s) and configuration
« on: December 16, 2015, 06:49:57 PM »
First off, I am not sure if this should go under suggestions, or this topic, but in case I missed something that already exists... here I am.

So, we run a monthly tournament, and most of the players are interested in contributing a specific amount, instead of a 'rake', each month that helps them qualify for a year end Tournament of Champions. The concept is more of a 'point totals' tournament, but we just call it ToC. Out of a 12 tournament schedule, you _must_ play at least 9 tournaments to qualify, and your top 7 point finishes count. What I am looking for is a way to designate a player as being part of the particular year's competition. Right now, I do this by hand, and will continue to do so, but if the software already allows it, or can in the future, that'd be great.  I guess the question part is "Is there already a way to do this?" and the suggestion part is "Can this be added?"
I already keep separate seasons for each year. I am trying to then 'tag' players that are contributing each month, and not charge those that do not. To add a wrench to this... we did have one player last year that committed to playing, and 3 tournaments in decided to back out for the year.

I run TD from a virtual machine, and use a laptop to display the tournament over a VNC connection. Tonight, after upgrading to the latest version, and the most recent patches, when I ran the tournament, the clock never updated. We run with 20 minute blinds. I got the 'paused' display flashing, hit the space bar, and the flashing stopped, but the clock never moved. I went to the seating chart, and the small clock in the upper left hand corner (ULC) displayed the proper time. I went back to the Tournament, and it showed the current time, but did not update yet again. I had to run my tournament by looking at the small ULC clock. I had seen this type of behavior in a previous version, somewhere in the 2.x series, but it was working fine in 3.x until today. I tried with different VNC connections, using different types of clients, and all had the same result. The Virtual Machine PC had been rebooted recently as well, due to security updates... Any ideas? Need any other information?

Help Me / Mass conversion of TDT to XML
« on: May 19, 2011, 12:19:57 PM »
I have run about 200 tournaments since I have used TD. I have had multiple computer crashes/changes/virtualization issues in the past. The only thing that has survived all of this are my backups, and my TDT files.

Now, I am interested in compiling all of this data by importing from XML. (Unless Corey will let me know his DB Schema so I do not have to re-create everything).
My purpose for this is only to gather and display statistics for my players. Is there a way, other than 'Load->Export', repeat 200 times, to do this? Is the TDT format something I can parse?
Even just a DB dump would be fine by me.

Help Me / moved from 64bit to 32bit environment, paths seem hardcoded?
« on: February 02, 2011, 04:30:42 PM »
I initially installed TD on a Vista laptop. When Windows 7 came available, I moved over to the 64bit version. This meant that certain files are stored in "c:\program files\" and some in "c:\program files(x86)\".
Windows 7 did not work well with my set up (due to no vendor supplied Windows 7 video drivers) so, my S-Video output ended up causing the laptop to either reboot, stop responding, or just blue screen. Obviously, if this happens while running a tournament, I have a problem.

My solution was to install Ubuntu on the laptop and use VirtaulBox OSE to run a Windows XP (legal) virtual machine. This works very well. What does not work well is that when I restore from my backup, some of my layouts and templates (maybe most of them) fail to load properly because of the Path issue. I was able to work around one of those issues by just re-selecting the path. I tried to get around by re-installing, even installing the Beta to see if things were a bit more configurable. The first (and hopefully only) problem I have found is when I try to load 'Automatic' prizes, I am presented with a dialog that states "the configuration file is missing or has an error ... click on the Configure button.' When I do that, the next dialog pops up, and the path is displayed at the top of the page, but there is no where to edit.

Can I edit some file, or files, to pull out all of the ' (x86)' references?

Thanks ahead of time.

Help Me / Points v. Score v. Overall Score
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:49:28 PM »
Ok, I am struggling a bit with this and hope I can get some help.

I am trying to use a modified Dr. Neau's formula to create points based on how much you paid, number of players, and your rank. I am excluding bounties, etc. When I enter the formula in the main Tournament Settings Screen, they display correctly. When I go to stats, and I filter from 2009/1/1 - 2009/1/31, my 'Overall Score' shows correctly (defined as 'scores') and my tournament scoring is defined as 'sqrt((n * bc)) / (r + 1.0)'.
After filtering and loading all of the tournaments, my January numbers are fine.

If I adjust the filter to 2009/2/1->2009/2/28, I get 'Overall scores' that are close, but some are 0.0000 for players that placed and some actually cashed. If I change the way Overall scores are defined to sum(scores), it shows all tournaments from 2009/1/1 even though the filter is supposed to be for just February.  arrrrgh! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i really want to get this right.

I did not see in the documentation where there was a way to determine a difference between 'points', 'score', and 'overall score'. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

Help Me / License Expired or just plain gone??
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:58:27 PM »
Ok, I am not sure what I did, but I know I did something.

I am trying to see my save files, and from within the TD2 software, I can. From Explorer (File, not Internet) I cannot. From the command line, I cannot. Same user, same directory. So, what I did was turn off UAC and reboot. I then tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to change the permissions of the directory and files, removing the partial read only, only to find them reset. /me scratches his head about that part anyway.

So, I go to launch the software after the reboot, and I get the 'this is evaluation software, you have 30 days to register' notice. Like I said, I am sure that this is something that I have done, but have no way to find out what I did wrong.

I have purchased and run this software for years. I absolutely love it.  Can anyone help a Unix guy fix his Vista machine????

Thanks in Advance!

Help Me / API or Other Hooks into the Database
« on: October 15, 2007, 06:37:15 PM »
We use StatsGenie to import all of our tournament results. The export feature is awesome. What I would like to see is either some documented API or simple tools to allow me to query and build my own reports. Is there an option for this API request? Is there already something I can use?

Thanks!!

Keep up the great work. The Software is already stellar.
