We have been running for over 3 years - used a competitor tourney manager initially (didn't know about TD then), but once I stumbled on it the rest was history. The site has all the matches and stats uploaded etc etc

Hi Corey

Weird one - when I add players to a tournament (say by checking 4 players on the add players dialog), after a few seconds the standard Windows Print dialog appears. In fact one Print dialog appears for each player I added in that operation. So using the 4 player example the Print dialog appears 4 times. You don't initiially realise it has shown the print dalog 4 times until you close the dialog and see another dialog is directly underneath.

I did get this with Beta 2 but hadn't really had the opportunity to spend much time on it (hence not raising it sooner), but I have now installed Beta 3 and the same happens. Surprised no-one else has mentioned this so I am wondering if it may be more environmental etc etc. It is on WinXP Pro.

Corey -  if the whole TD folder is "moved" to a new location AFTER a "normal" installation, whilst you say all is well because TD does not actually care where it resides, I presume un-installing (should you need to - I know, unthinkable) will fail then as it will not find what it is looking for in order to uninstall successfully?

Help Me / Re: Points under V prizes show as 0 when using a formula

I hear ya Corey

Mine is a straightforward formula (no points for hits etc). What I have ended up doing is creating a cell for prizes and a cell for points - side by side. Seems to work okay.

Many thanks for your help though.

Ok cool - so had a little play with that and looks like it will be the ticket.

One question though - the prizewinnings variable would seem to indicate it will show the prizes for a rank as well as the points for playing? Is that right?

If it is I am not sure how to use it currently I have a cell that has:

<pointsforplaying orient="vertical" ranks="1-9" displayRank="true" prizeWinnings="0">

It lists ranks 1 to 9 with their respective points for playing - which is fine. I would like it to also show what prize money (if any) that each rank gets too. I also tried the above with just "prizewinnings" on its own too - no joy there either I'm afraid.

We are just embarking on using the points for playing formula in our leagues (instead of hardecoded points for finishing 1 to 9) so I guess I'm looking to do the equivalent of the <prizes> token I have used that shows the rank, prizes and points won we used originally.

ok - sounds reasonable. So the obvious followup to that is are there tokens or cells that show points for playing either separately or combined with prize points?

thanks

hmmm may not be the way to do it - corey will say i guess if bad - but safest thing is to backup, unnstall - and reinstall but chnage the install location to be not under program files - then restre ur backup and all is then as is and will work fine. If you just "move" everything it may not like that very much.

yes - try that - I have a C:\tdsaves folder. That should sort that out - however - other updates to the TD files such as prefs or templates or db etc may also seemingly "disappear" becuase they are still all under program files at some point.

Maybe Corey will allow a config option that allows all updateable / dynamic areas of the program be pointed at from somewhere else of the user's choosing? I notice that the default saves folder uses a <tdfolder> token to presumably mean "C:\program files\tournament director 2\" - if this a reference that the user can modify - or maybe the creation of a new token, say <tddynamic> that refs this user updateable area.

Of course - the easiest answer is to backup all, uninstall, and re-install under somewhere other than program files  :-)

Help Me / Points under V prizes show as 0 when using a formula
« on: July 30, 2007, 04:08:45 PM »
Hi

Using 2.3.6 - all looks great - but notice that the "V Prizes" token in my layout (with showpoints as true) shows the points for the prizes as "0" when I am using a formula.

Any ideas folks?

Thanks in advance!

The problem is that Vista (I guess not all versions - I have ultimate too and I have the same issue) doesnt like programs updating  folders under "program files" - it considers this potentially unsafe. When it detects this it saves them to a virtual store that mimics "program files" so that the program in question is fooled into thinking everything is hunky dory. However, of course, when the program subsequently looks for it it isnt there.

In explorer you can see where this has happened as a button on the toolbar appears labelled "compatability files" when a folder is selected that has had this happen. Clicking on this shows the files that were "naughty" and moved elsewhere in the virtual store. You cant switch off the feature I don't think - but you can manually move stuff around.

I guess Vista is just (rightly or wrongly) encouraging software developers to not "save" / "update" in program files - in fact theres a folder now called program data - suspect thats where they want that stuff to go - so maybe best to chnage the "saves" location to somewhere not under program files

Hmmm - ok - looks like I figured it out.

Looks like you need to set the properties on the shortcut icon and force to run as an administrator. Once done all appears to be well.

Phew!

Hi there - now have a Windows Vista Ultimate (32) system now. All was well until I installed and tried TD 2.2.2 - it doesnt like it much; at the initialisation stage a couple of dialog boxes reared their heads (attached - dialog1 and dialog2)

Any thoughts folks?

Thanks

Help Me / Re: Rules
« on: February 10, 2007, 12:11:40 PM »
I think the confusion here is between an under-call and an under-raise as both situations whilst similar are different.

If a player goes all-in by calling the previous bet (but cannot make the full call), then the other players carry on as if the call was a full call and a side pot generated for all players that called fully (this side pot will contain the number of chips that exceeded the under call x each fully calling player). Betting then carries on normally from that point with chips going into the side pot. For example - blinds 100 and 200 with 5 players - Position 1 calls 200, Position 2 under-calls all-in 100 - the remaining players must still call 200 (or can raise if they have not acted yet). Assuming they all call and the blinds complete and check, then the main pot will be 500 and the side pot 500.

However, if a player raises but they do not have enough chips to make the minimum raise (i.e. under-raise), then a call only needs to be whatever the raise managed to be. However if a player who has not acted yet can raise, but their raise must still be at least the minimum raise amount. Players then must call that value. Those that have already called the under-raised amount then also need to complete to stay in the hand. After that betting round completes a side pot of the excess chips from each player over the under-raise is made. If nobody re-raised after the under-raise then they just match the under-raised amount and the next round of betting goes straigght into a side pot.

I agree - it's just a little confusing having "paid" used twice when it only means "paid" in one case. "Reserved" is a good alternative I think - or even "Registered" - so someone can be registered for a tourney, i.e. they rang you to say they are on their way so please put them in - but they haven't paid yet.......
