Title: Mobiles at tables
Post by: Mahound on March 14, 2011, 05:07:09 AM
Recently I was watching the live feed for a  big national UK tournament. At the table were a couple of players that i knew and they were using there phones.

I was also following the game on a poker forum. One of the players  was messaging the forum and updating facebook. Telling the forum about hands he had played, why he folded hands, why he pushed hands  etc.

He was not doing this when he was in an actual hand. But you could see him using the phone on the live feed. But isn't this against the rules. By revealing his thoughts on another player or even his own actions isn't he breaking the rules.

I always thought that the the ruling was,  that no mobiles were allowed at the table. Or does this only cover making an actual call.

Would like to hear any thoughts that people have on this.

I personally think it's a WSOP rule that they cannot use them at the table - I've never seen anyone use a cell phone on there. I personally try to discourage cell use at the tables, but it's not forbidden at the tournaments that I run.

The use of mobile phones at the tables varies between cardrooms, and even varies between dealers.  I allow texting/facebooking/music on mobile phones as do the majority of Cardrooms I use or manage.  The majority of UK cardrooms will only preclude talking on the phone whilst at the tables.

TDA rule 3:
3.   Communication
Players may not talk on the phone while at the poker table.  House rules apply to all other forms of electronic devices.

My club prohibits players from talking on cell phones only. Like stuamurr, messaging and facebooking and also music are permitted.

Isn't Facebook and messaging also a form of communication.  Also messaging a facebook can also slow a game down

The TDA rule clearly states talking on the phone, providing the rest are not slowing the game any, I don't have a problem with them.

Stuart

=Roberts Rules also provides such. An activity will not be tolerated if it slows down the game.

I'm really surprised that phones are allowed at the table at all. I've always assumed that they weren't. Isn't this an obvious collusion threat?

Here is what we do.

Your on the phone, you are out of the hand.
Music is ok.
No texting what so ever. We do not want players to be able to text one another during a tournament and or cash game and try to pinch players or feed chips to one another.

Now in Pennsylvania Casino's - You can use your phone if you are not, I repeat, not in the hand. You must have the phone visable and once the next hand starts you either turn it to sleep or muck. If at any time they want to check your phone activity, you must show, If they catch you cheating with another player at the table, boh players will be asked to leave and you run the risk of being banned as well as subject to arrest.

Sands in Bethlehem there have been people caught doing exactly that and have been banned and were arrested. Its a serious charge so running the risk is stupid. If you're playing in a tournament or cash game, just put the phone on vibrate and tell people to text you in an emergency.

At the Gold Strike in Tunica Ms you can not text or look at a text during a hand, your phone must be face down. I do not trust anyone when there is a lot of money at stake. With all of the technology nowadays I think headsets should not be allowed.

Simple at mine.

NO PHONES ALLOWED AT THE TABLE.

Any phones or mp3 players used for music must be set away from the table and in your pocked when you return.
You look at your phone you get a orbit ban missing your SB & BB.

The game runs miles better now, even the players that were never off their phones agree it's better.
Your there to play poker not play on your phone.
