Suggestions for a Multi-day tourney.
« on: December 15, 2006, 12:48:10 PM »
Hello folks,

I'll be using TD on a multi-day tournament in a few weeks and I want your help to discuss what you think is the best way to manage the game.
Like WSOP I'll have many more players than the local poker room can accommodate, and so, I have to do a day 1A, day 1B, 1C, day 2...  style of tourney.
Every starting day will have about 300 players.

Here are my thoughts:

1 - I could create a single tournament, and as one day ends, I can go back some blind levels and buy-in new players.
2 - I could create 4 tournaments. 1 for each starting day and 1 for when I put all the remaining players together.
3 - I could again create 4 tourneys, 1 for each starting day, and another one with all the 900+ players, and when day 2 starts bust out all the guys that are indeed already gone.

Problems:

Idea 1 gives me the problem of having unreal average stacks and players remaining for players starting on the second or third day.
Idea 2 fixes that, but when I join all the players on the final tourney I`ll have to manually adjust stacks and add money to the prize pool.

What do you think?

Give me your thoughts

best Regards
D.C.

Wow, what an undertaking.

I wouldn't have thought of it, but I have to like your idea #3.

You get redundancy and you can always bust out all the players on the combined tourney as day one is going along.  Just have both tourneys open (on 2 computer) and when you bust them out of the individual tourney, then also bust out of combined (Day2) tourney.

Good luck.

Wow!!!  DC Rocker,

That would be an exciting tourney.  Here is what you have to do in order to run it just like the WSOP (although I never been there). :-[

If your tourney does not have a cutoff date for signing or you don't know how many on each day will arrive:

Your computer will need MS Excel or some spreadsheet program.
Go to cell A1.  Type “Leaders”.
Go to cell A2.  Type “Day1 001”.
Extend the series to your cutoff number“Day1 100.”
Go to cell A102.  Type “Day2 001”.
Extend the series to your cutoff number“Day2 100.”
Go to cell A202.  Type “Day3 001”.
Extend the series to your cutoff number“Day3 100.”
Go to cell B1.  Type “First name”.
Go to cell C1.  Type “Last name”.
Go to cell D1.  Type “Chip count”.
Create cell space for writing later.
Save file as “DC Rocker SOP”
File type CSV (comma deli)
Print this
You can import this as well.

When running tourney:
Create your play "down to" number each day, 300 down to 100 for example.
When you reach that number, stop playing, and conduct chip count.
Fill out to spreadsheet, update and save.
Updating in players tab is possible.
.
Create your levels for the entire tourney.
Start it where you desire.
Level 1 day 1-3
Level 12 day 4

After day 3 chip count.
Complete Spreadsheet and save.
Go to Players tab
Import file.

Based on tables and size you can issue seats.

If you have cutoff date for signing up, it will be easier.  Let me know and I can help.  Forgive me if I seem to be over-simplistic.
Below is an attachment for help.  I am excited for you.  When is your tourney?

Good Luck

Hi korinkinchen,

Thanks for the idea! After careful consideration, I think that mixing my third idea with your spreadsheet solution, for redundancy, will have a safe and functional result in the tourney.
It will be a quite nice tourney on a cruise ship on the Brazilian coast during February.
Prize pool should exceed US$ 300K!

I'll  tell you guys how it went on.

Best regards,
