It's certainly not very fun, but we've been pretty fortunate thus far.  Not a lot of spam, and active users who report it quickly.

I probably should have reported those posts, rather than make silly comments....

I'll do it the correct way next time.

Just reported about 5-8 spam posts. Strange as there are normally none to speak off. Keep up the good work Corey

I dunno, but I think we just doubled our spam posts overnight!  I hope we didn't make it onto some kind of list out there...

Good news this week.

The number of unwanted, offensive and misleading e-mails sent across the globe plummeted by about two-thirds, to a mere 60 billion or so a day by Thursday, according to spam filtering companies

A ragtag band of researchers pulled off the unprecedented coup of drastically cutting the spam volume by adopting a new strategy: going after mainstream U.S. companies that can unknowingly help spammers, identity thieves and child porn purveyors by carrying their traffic on the Internet.

60 Billion eh jeez they are scummers

I have my own forum on smf and this was posted on there support pages a couple of days ago.

Gives some measures to maybe help or slow them down a bit.

I for one wouldnt mind an extra login or verification screen if it was needed just so the bar stewards didint win!

Thanks verbalvolley.  I took the opportunity a few days ago when this started to upgrade the forums, but had a problem going from version 1.1.5 to 1.1.7.  I'll have to do the upgrade manually and I just haven't had a chance to do so yet.  Looks like there are some good options in that topic for minimizing the attacks.  I'll see what I can manage this weekend.

Once again, thanks to everyone who is keeping an eye on the forums and reporting the spam posts.  I've been keeping a closer eye myself and trying to eliminate it as fast as I can.  The email notifications of reported spam help me to delete it more quickly.

Alright, the forums have been upgraded and I added the recaptcha verification system.  Hopefully this will significantly reduce the spam.  Thanks again to everyone for reporting the spam posts.

I feel for you.  I run a forum and the guy hosting it won't upgrade my software.  I have set it so I manually have to activate each user before they post, and if they don't fill out their profile I assume they are spammers.  But until he upgrades I can only delete one account at a time!  Not fun when they sign up with thousands of accounts!!!!
