TD members opinion?
« on: May 14, 2008, 12:10:09 PM »
I developed a tournament structure and would like everyones input and opinion.

Starting chip value: $1,000 per player
Re-buy chip value:  $1,000 per player
Add-on  chip value:  $1,000 per player after the 4th round
No re-buys or add-ons after the 4th round

Blind schedule:
Round               BLINDS                   TIMES
1   $5   -   $10   20 Min
2   $10   -   $20   20 Min
3   $15   -   $30   20 Min
4   $20   -   $40   20 Min
         BREAK (color up)                   15 Min
5   $25   -   $50   20 Min
6   $50   -   $100   20 Min
7   $75   -   $150   20 Min
8   $100   -   $200   20 Min
9   $125   -   $250   20 Min
10   $150   -   $300   20 Min
               BREAK                   15 Min
11   $175   -   $350   20 Min
12   $200   -   $400   20 Min
13   $250   -   $500   20 Min
14   $300   -   $600   20 Min
15   $350   -   $700   20 Min
         BREAK (color up)                   15 Min
16   $400   -   $800   20 Min
17   $500   -   $1,000   20 Min
18   $600   -   $1,200   20 Min
19   $800   -   $1,600   20 Min
20   $1,000   -   $2,000   20 Min
21   $1,500   -   $3,000   20 Min
22   $2,000   -   $4,000   20 Min
23   $2,500   -   $5,000   20 Min
24   $3,000   -   $6,000   20 Min

Usually it does not go past the 21st round and the tournament goes from 6:30 pm to 12:30 or 1:00 in the morning.

My question is this; "should I keep it at $1,000 in chips or bump it up to $1,500 in chips"?  My reasoning for this question; more people can stay in and play longer.

Looking for feed back.

Thanks in advance.

It seems ok to me, everyone's starting with 100 big blinds, so no problem there. How many entries and rebuys/add ons do you get and have you got any restrictions as to what time you need to finish. If you're happy with the finishing time, but are losing too many too early, you could extend the buy ins or add ons for an extra round or two. Alternatively, you could increase the round lengths to 30 mins until the second break, if time isn't a problem.

I'm good with the time frame (6 - 6.5 hrs).  You can rebuy as many times as you like (within the first four rounds) but you need to bust out to do the rebuys.
Add-ons; only one per player at the end of the fourth round.  I don't really want to extend the rebuys or add-ons that's way I was wondering if adding an additional $500 in chips ($1000 to $1500) would make a difference.

Ok, I meant how many people usually need to rebuy, but I see where you're going with this. If you add to the buy in, you will probably reduce the number of rebuys and the size of the prize pool. With more chips in play, the game should last longer. If you are losing people too quickly after the end of the rebuys, but don't want to extend the rebuy period and everyone adds on, why not increase the amount of chips for the add on? That way you should still have as many rebuys and more chips to play with after the add on. It's a balancing act, too many chips at the start means fewer rebuys and smaller prize pool, so I'd maybe increase the add on to $1500 and see if that helps.

All good points and I think I'll try your suggestion.  Thanks for helping.
