Help Me / Re: deleted player
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:51:44 PM »
To follow-up, AJ found a minor bug in the Adjust Rankings dialog.  When he moved the player who should have busted out last (2nd place) to the 2nd place position, the dialog change the player's bust-out time to just after the tournament ended, when it should have moved it to just before the tournament ended.  As he noted, the rankings were correct and prizes were awarded correctly, but it had a side-effect in the Action Summary on the Summary tab.  I'll fix this in the next release.

Ok, we're confusing things with semantics.  When you said "He never busted out at all", you meant that with respect to the first, incorrectly made bust-out.  He DID in fact bust out, just later in the tournament.

This is important, because when you "Adjust Rankings", you are actually adjusting the time(s) at which player(s) bust out of the tournament.  A player isn't [strictly speaking] assigned a ranking when they bust out.  Any time some sort of action occurs, the entire tournament is re-evaluated and rankings are assigned based on bust-out times.  When you "moved" this player to a 2nd place finish in the Adjust Rankings dialog, what you really did was change the time of his bust-out, placing it after the last bust-out occurred (3rd place), and before the tournament ended.

To be honest, I'm confused as to how he could properly be assigned a 2nd place prize, yet show up as busting out "early in the tournament".  Email me your tournament file (support@thetournamentdirector.net) and details about the player and I'll look into it.

I'm not trying to be a jerk either, I just don't understand.  How did your player not bust out yet did not finish in 1st place?

I only see three possibilities: (1) a player busts out and is ranked 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ..., 10th, ..., etc.; (2) a player never busts out and is therefore the winner (ie 1st place); and (3) the final 2 players (or 3 or 4 or however many) decide to chop.  In this case, the players may tie, or may be ranked according to chip count or some other factor.  However, when you perform a chop in the TD, those players are busted out at the same time, indicating they chop.  This is the only way in which a tournament may have every player busted out.

Therefore, from the TD point of view, only 1 player can remain not busted out in a tournament, and that player will be ranked 1st place.

Are you referring to the "Action Summary" on the Summary tab?  Because this summary is derived from the players' buy-ins and bust-outs, so if you modified them using the Adjust Rankings dialog, then that summary will be updated as well (as a matter of fact, that summary is regenerated every time you visit the Summary tab).  The only thing I can think of here, after having just attempted what I think you described, is that somehow the final bust-out was listed after the tournament was over (shouldn't be possible - I'll have to look into that), but going back to the Adjust Rankings dialog I simply manually adjusted the 2nd place player's bust-out time, moving it back a few seconds, and the Action Summary righted itself.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Break & Chip Up - Token??
« on: March 01, 2007, 11:26:55 AM »
Yes.  On the Tokens dialog, add a token named "breaktext" and set the value of it to whatever you want.  This will override the default value.

You can do this on a per-level basis by editing a level on the Rounds tab and pressing the Tokens button (overrides the value for that level only), or for the entire tournament by pressing the Tokens button on the Layout tab.

Templates, Layouts and Sounds / Re: Odd and Even Background
« on: March 01, 2007, 11:22:39 AM »
The only way to do this currently is two define two separate screens, each with their own background.  The easiest thing to do is design one screen, then copy it to a new screen and change the background on the copy.

I'll assume you now have a screen called "Odd" and a screen called "Even".

In the Screen Sets dialog, you should have only the Default screen set.  Add the "Odd" screen to it and set the screen display time to some high number, like 36000 (10 hours).  Create another screen set called "Even rounds".  Add only the "Even" screen to it, and set the screen display time to 36000.  Press the Conditions button.  In the "Stage" section, select "Round" and enter the word "even" in the input.

Uhm, didn't he bust out of the tournament?  Isn't that how he achieved 2nd place?

There is a way to EXport the tournament summary, if that's what you mean.  Settings page, Game tab, Export button.

Beta Testing / Re: Next version (post 2.2.2) status

The confirmation dialog is "Yes" / "No" dialog, and hotkeys work for these dialogs as well.  So when you press CTRL+N or CTRL+P for Next Round or Previous Round, a Yes/No dialog pops up, and you can just press Y or N.  No need to fumble with the mouse.

Sorry.  :-)  It's just been a while since the last release and I didn't want you guys thinking nothing was happening with the software.

tandemrx: I did not add a preference for the "confirm on manual round changes".  I've had it in my development version for a while now, and believe me, I do a lot of the same thing you do.  Honestly it hasn't been much of a hassle, especially since you can confirm with just another quick keystroke.  I added this as a "better safe than sorry" feature.  Manually advancing (or retreating?) the round is undo-able in the sense that you can go right back to the previous (or next) round, but if no one was paying attention to the clock, you can't go back to the correct time left in that round.  And even though it isn't drastic, it could be painful if someone accidentally presses the wrong hotkey (or a button on the screen) and advances the round.  Just better to have a confirmation.

The evaluation period begins the first time you run the software, and ends 30 days later, regardless of use.

Since I've gotten a few inquiries, I thought I'd update everyone one what's going on for the next version.  The biggest effort was making the software translatable, and this took several months of coding.  Now that it is finished, I've started on new features.  I have to say, adding features is a lot more fun than internationalizing the software...

Here's a short list of what has already been added:

  • The Tournament Director is now able to be translated
  • Added switch() and assign() functions to points formulas
  • Players not bought-in can now be seated
  • Cash and Points adjustments to players not bought-in now possible (and take effect on Stats)
  • "Income Sources" now expanded to cover everything, including bounty chips; also accessible for the current tournament as well as the Stats
  • Added stat displaying the number of times a player has reached the final table
  • "Next Round" and "Previous Round" now ask for confirmation before proceeding
  • Players can be added to the tournament directly from the Database tab
  • Players in the tournament are highlighted on the Database tab
  • Added options to Seating Chart page to alternate colors of each row (in List Format), and column names now remain visible on the screen when the list is scrolled
  • Added sounds Import to quickly create sounds from a folder full of music files
  • Added "showPoints" and "showCash" attributes to <rankings> token
  • Added <totalrake> token displaying the total collected rake
  • Added actions to <tdbutton> token to go to Player Rankings page, Seating Chart page
  • Added attribute to <buyin> token to include bounty chip cost
  • Added <unseated> token with the current count of unseated players
  • Added column "Hits" to <seatingchart> token display
  • Added preferences to pause at the start of rounds, and to pause at the start of breaks
  • Added a feature to choose a random player
  • Added a feature to randomly choose dealers (randomly places the dealer button at each table)
  • Added a sound event that plays continuously while the clock is paused
  • Added ability to temporarily mute any sound event
  • Added preference to auto-save when "important" things happen in the tournament, such as players buying-in, busting-out, etc.
  • Numerous bug fixes

No promises on what else will go in or how much more... I pretty much re-evaluate the to-do list every day that I code.

Help Me / Re: Supporting Multiple Monitors
« on: February 22, 2007, 05:28:51 PM »
What do you mean by "You can't drag TD over to it"?  Meaning you can't tote your laptop, or you can't drag the application to it because it is full-screen?

If the latter, then you might have 2 options.  One, run the TD in window mode (setting on the Preferences tab) so you can then drag it.  Two, most multi-monitor capable display cards will have a tool that will allow you to place applications on whichever screen you choose.  Unfortunately, thanks to Microsoft the TD doesn't show up in the Applications list (in Windows task manager) so that may not work for you.  Then again, it might show up in the tool.
