Help Me / Re: Help with weird html stats export issue
« on: May 23, 2007, 03:50:23 PM »
The reason an option was not given is that if you include some foreign character in your tournament (say, in the title or description or notes or a player's name, etc, etc) and attempt to save it, an error will result if unicode is not turned on (and the error I get from IE is completely unrelated to what's actually happening).  Therefore, I turned unicode on universally.  I'll just have to put something in the user manual about this...

The Title cell (in the layout of the tournament you posted), which incidentally is the cell that has the "white bars" to the sides of it, has its width set to 1024 and the height set to 125.

Beta Testing / Re: Version 2.3 Beta 1

I tried to find space to put the filename, but given that the filename can potentially be just about any size, I couldn't find a reasonable place to put it (besides the window title bar).  You can also hover the mouse over the "Save" button to see the filename.  I'll see if I can come up with something before the next beta...

This is definitely related to the new beta.  Version 2.3 saves files in Unicode format, which allows for foreign character sets.  You are seeing the raw file.  If you edit this file in a unicode-aware editor (such as Notepad), it will look "normal", but at the byte level, this is how it looks.  Modern tools should have no problem handling these files, so I really don't know why Thunderbird would do this.

Before releasing the next beta, I'll look into adding an option to not save as Unicode.

This is a side-effect of setting the cell width and height.  If you set a cell's height or width to less than the amount of space it would take up (if not set), the cell will adhere to those settings and you'll see the background show through around the cell.  Set the height and width back to 0 to have the cell fill the available space, and you'll see those white areas disappear.

It's a good idea, but unfortunately it just doesn't work that way.  Because screens aren't static and can change based on tournament conditions, one screen could have dozens to hundreds of configurations (odd, even rounds, if rebuys are allowed, if add-ons are allowed, if it's a limit, pot limit, or no limit game, basically all of the conditions on the "Conditions" dialog apply).  Combine those.  And any *part* of the screen could change based on those conditions.  It would have to figure out every possible combination and simultaneously adjust them all to make sure the screen fits in every scenario...

Don't forget to do this for the breaks, too, and don't forget to save the layout when you are done.

If you get a layout to look right for a specific screen size (other than 1024x768, which is what they are designed for), feel free to post it for others if you want.

You can use the "Auto-size screen" function on the Tournament page to assist you.  To adjust all of the screens, I recommend configuring a tournament, so that the display will more accurately reflect what you will see during your actual tournament.

On the Tournament page, press the 1 key to display the corresponding screen.  Then right-click and select "Auto-adjust screen".
Press the 2 key to display the next screen, then Auto-adjust the screen size.  Repeat for all screens.

Finally, you'll want to make sure that each screen displays properly on even rounds and breaks.  But since many items are shared between screens, some items will have already had their sizes adjusted, while others will still be at their original size.  Move forward to an even round and you'll probably want to adjust manually those items whose size looks out of place (usually this just means adjusting the font size).

Help Me / Re: New Computer
« on: May 14, 2007, 04:10:00 PM »
The best thing you can do when you move the software to a new computer is follow the directions in the user manual for backing up your database (and saved tournaments, templates, and preferences) and restoring the backup on your new computer.  This will ensure that you have the same players in your new database.  Recreating the players by hand in your new installation will not create the same players (even if you use the same names).

On your new system, load one of your tournaments saved on the old system.  Go to the Players tab.  Do the player names appear in italics?  If so, they are not in your new database, and therefore they won't show up in Stats.

Beta Testing / Re: Version 2.3 Beta 1

For the Search field, I pretty much took the approach of "if they turn it on, then they want to use it", so that's why the focus is placed there when the dialog opens.

The final table designation has been removed in favor of being able to specify table collapse order.  (In a sense, specifying a final table is just a subset of what you can now do.)  If you want to designate a final table, press the "Collapse Order" button and move the table into the right column (Collapse these tables last:).

The Seat Lock is not a "guaranteed" lock.  Locked players will be moved only after considering other players to move.  For example, if you have 2 tables of 10 seats, and get down to 5 players on each table, the TD will suggest moving them all to one table, even if every single player was locked in their seat.  But when given a choice, the TD will always choose unlocked players over locked players.

I think excluding a table from seating suggestion would probably break the whole balancing algorithm.  This is one of the reasons seating suggestions became "suggestions" - and are not enforced.

I'll add a preference for the round change confirmation - pretty easy to do.

Help Me / Re: Last Stable Version
« on: May 10, 2007, 10:59:02 PM »
There's no difference in the versions with regards to this type of issue (you didn't describe anything more than just not being able to start the software).  It's not a problem with the software, it is a configuration issue on the PC.  Going back to a previous version won't help.

Help Me / Re: Chop a saved tournament?
« on: May 10, 2007, 11:49:17 AM »
Easy to fix, but if you want everything to be "perfect", it will take a little bit of work.

I'm assuming that when you chopped, you actually busted your buddy out (in the TD), ending the tournament.  So:

- Load your tournament
- Undo the bust out of your buddy (press 'S').  This will restart the tournament, since now you and he are back in
- Press CTRL+C to initiate a chop.  Configure the chop, press OK and the tournament will end

The only "problem" with this is that your bust-out times and the tournament end time will be skewed (off by a week, based on your description).  You can adjust these, if you really care, by using the Adjust Rankings dialog on the Players tab.  But I'd only do this if you *really* care, because it's a bit of a pain.

There isn't a way to do this.  But it would be a pretty simple thing to add.  I'll look into it.
