Here is the structure I have been using since January. I get 2.5 hour tourneys for up to 60 people. I start lowering the round level length as we get to the end. I especially like the 5 minute round that kicks in before the antes... all the players know this is the time to start playing. This structure allows for a very nice first hour of play.

UPT TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
10-minute rounds
10-20
20-40
30-60
40-80
50-100
100-200

10-minute break
Race for the 10 & 50 chips

10-minute round
200-400

Lightning Round
5 Minutes
300-600

8-minute rounds
400-800 / Ante 100
500-1000 / Ante 200
1000-2000 / Ante 200
2000-4000 / Ante 500
3000-6000 / Ante 500

5-minute break
Race for the 100 & 500 chips

7-Minute round
4000-8000 / Ante 1000
6-Minute round
5000-10000 / Ante 2000
5-Minute round
10000-20000 / Ante 2000
4-Minute round
20000-40000 / Ante 5000
3-Minute round
30000-60000 / Ante 5000

UPT,

Thanks for the tip! Are you running a T1000 tournament? What chip distribution do you use? And how do you use the Tournament Director? Do you get designated people to assist you? I got yelled at for "slowing down the tourney" so what do you do to ensure there are no problems? Also, how does the increase in blinds affect the level of luck? It sounds cool to be able to run a tourney in 2 hours but it also potentially sounds like a lot of coinflipping...

Thanks!

It is T1500...
10  - 10 Chips (White)
4 - 50 (Red)
2 - 100 (Blue)
2- 500 (Green)

Usually our tournaments are run with two people but I often do it solo.. the toughest part is the chip race.

I let the TD handle everything until it gets to be 3 tables and then I do the seat changes manually based on the Button position. I do not try to keep the tables at max capacity so that keeps seat changes down. Here is how I break down seats..

      72 Players = 4 tables of 10 and 4 tables of  8
      60 players = 4 tables of  9 and 3 tables of  8
      52 players = 4 tables of  9 and 2 tables of  8
      44 players = 4 tables of  9 and 1 table of  8
      36 players = 4 tables of  9
      24 players = 3 tables of  8
      14 players = 2 tables of  7
        7 players = Final Table

The luck factor doen't kick in until after 2 hours of play.
In our tournaments, we play two tournaments a night, we need to ensure we finish before the 2.5 hour mark.
