TD under Linux using Wine
« on: March 29, 2008, 01:55:50 PM »
Hi there,

did anybody ever try to get TD running on a Linux machine using Wine?

I switched to Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon) on my Laptop, really like it but I miss TD ;) And as we are having a homegame on Monday it would be cool to get it running.

I already tried but get an error during install that IE 6.xxxxx was found but IE6 was needed and so it won't run. However I could install it but it won't start.

Hope somebody can help me,

Daniel

I can't help you.  I tried it just for grins with Ubuntu 7.04.  It actually installed fine for me, but nothing happens when I attempt to run it using the desktop icon.  Tried as best I could from the command line and all I get is "CreateProcess failed".

How about VMWare instead? The VMWare server is free so the cost is right.  :)
I use SuSe on my desktop and run TD in a VM to export stats, create the upcoming tournaments, etc.
All my saved games are on a Samba share so I can get to the games on my network from any PC.
I then copy the entire TD directory under the VM to my thumb drive and copy to my laptop (XP Pro now, did not care for Vista) to take to the game site as well as move a copy to my work PC.

I started another attempt with wine.
After installing ie6 using winetricks I could start TD but get the message

"The default language catalogs (en-us) could not be loaded."
"The English language folder could not be found"
"Sorry, cannot continue."

next window says:

"Name: Error"
"Number: 10 - 76"
"Description: Path not found"
"Message: Path not found"

However the path and files are existing. Any suggestions?

As I understand, language settings started after version 2.3, is there maybe a link to a 2.3 version that I could try if this would work?
I would really like being able to run TD under Linux.

There error you are seeing looks more like a side-effect of the software not being able to access your filesystem (therefore it cannot read the language catalogs).  You'll have other similar problems with any version of the software.

I'm with CruiseLite, I would try VMWare.  But nothing is guaranteed to work...

I installed VirtualBox now on my laptop now, thought this would be to much for the old machine but it seems to work fine.
Anyway, I managed to get TD started under wine but then wasn't able to click anywhere, maybe I give it another try some day.
