Re-Entry
« on: August 27, 2010, 07:16:28 AM »
Hi

is there a way to re-enter a player into a tournament once he (or she) has been busted out?

i know i could allow rebuys, but the tournament is a freezeout tournament in which late entries are allowed, and a re-entry would be a better solution/option for me.

Many thanks in advance

What you are describing is a re-buy tournament not a freezeout tournament.  Once you are bust in a freezeout you are bust and cannot re-enter

Just add a re-buy period instead, as there is no such thing as re-entering a tournament - your either eliminated or re-buying into it.

I dont want to call it a re-buy tournament, the point is late entries are allowed to join the tournament during the first two or three levels subject to available seats. Some of the players who bust out early have asked if they can re-enter the tournament, this would be a better option for me.

late registration can be done pretty simply just by adding players to the tournament, players who have busted cannot re-enter a freezeout tournament - that's why it is called a freezeout, the only real exception to this is freezeout tournaments where a special house rule allows a player in the first 6 hands or in the first level etc to buy back in, but again that is still a re-buy, even though it is not a re-buy tournament.

If you want to allow busted players to re-enter a tournament it would have to be a re-buy or add-on tournament.  I don't see why you can't have re-buys during your late registration period, that's what they are for!!??

EDIT - you still don't need to call it a re-buy tournament, although technically it is if you are allowing players to buy back in.

Add-on's would mean that players not out would be able to buy additional chips.  In any tournament or software there is no way to allow re-entry to a tournament, unless you are offering re-buys or an add-on can be used as a re-buy.

Regardless of what you call it or how you play it, the Tournament Director software doesn't allow a player to enter a tournament twice, as stuamurr pointed out.  There's just no way to do it.

To enter a player after he or she busts-out, they have to rebuy.

Thanks, that is all i really wanted to know. it was only because a few casinos here in the UK are promoting re-entry tournaments, and i was hoping that TD could do the same. I already do this with the rebuy option anyway.

PS
fantastic software Corey

Yeh, apologies didn't get to the point of the question myself!

If that's what being offered in some UK casinos the constraints of CardroomMAGIC software are even higher than Tournament Director so they will likely be either entering them as re-buys or entering random names into the tournament software to facilitate the re-resgistration of the same player, I think the later would be more likely.

Instead of busting out the player you could have some made up names that could be registered and then immediately busted from the tournament to represent the additional 're-entry' but then that would mean you wouldn't be able to track the total spend of each player - a feature that is not important to myself but might be to yourself.  I guess the main item is how much tracking of players you want to take place, using the re-buy or add-on feature would allow you this information, dummy players would not.

Best Regards

Our club offers this "re-entry". We call it Deadstacks. We place 10 stacks on each table regardless of how many entries there are. If we have 90 players, we use 10 tables and have 1 "deadstack" per table. A player who busts out may purchase one of these 10 extra stacks within the first 40 minutes (2 levels). After this, all deadstacks are are removed. We enter them into our system as a rebuy.
