General Discussion / Player export --- request
« on: February 12, 2016, 02:59:47 PM »
Corey, I am wondering if there is a way to build more custom queries from the 'database'. What I am looking for is essentially a way to query things like 'last time played', 'total tournaments played', 'most frequent <timeslice> played', etc. IIRC, you have stated that this isn't really stored as any type of "database" but rather reads in the appropriate files and builds a temporary DB in memory, then allows for export from there... If I am correct in that thinking, then I'll have to find another way.. I have been running this software for quite some time now, and have many players that have come and gone. I'd like to archive those that will never return, and get some cool stats on those that still play. Ideas? Any chance the 'next' version will have a MySQL/PostGres back end?

Help Me / Re: Latency
« on: January 23, 2016, 04:26:55 PM »
I had/have the same issues CruiseLite. I will say that after installing more RAM into my computer, the problem appears far less often. I am not suggesting that you spend more money on RAM, but more RAM is always good, especially under windows. I wonder (and may actually test) trying to allocate a specific amount of memory for the TD software and see if that helps... Right now, I am stuck in SnowZilla 2016, so I may get to it.

Beta Testing / Re: 3.4 beta 1
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:41:27 PM »
I understand that this may not be a priority, but I just wanted to add more information, in case it helps...

Ok, ran the beta for the first time yesterday and here is what I found:

    <SNIP>
    • Has the memory requirement much increase in this new beta? I have experience many BLACK dialog boxes and even transparent one while attempting different duties throughout my tournament. Busting out players was a biggy: Right-clicking would produce a transparent dialog, you had to guess where the "Bust player" option was and if you got lucky, you would then be presented with a black window (offering you to check other players to bust) where again you had to guess where the "OK" button was.

      Later on in my tournament, I notice the whole app slowing down (countdown clock, scrolling info) where I simply decided to restart the whole thing (computer included). everything went fine after that... For information, TD is running under Windows 8, 8 Gig RAM 64 Bits, Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60 Ghz
I can confirm that I have seen this since running the BETA also. I did purchase more RAM for my computer, and it hasn't been _as_ bad, but many buttons require me to "push" them twice. Personally, I think it is tied to the transitions. I turned them off prior to my memory upgrade, and saw some improvement, but I think the timing/logic tied to certain events is a component. (good finger pointing here) The reason, when typing / editing, just as the transitions fired, I'd lose keystrokes/clicks, then it'd be good until the next transition.
I am running an AMD A8-7410 APU / Radeon R5 with (now) 16GB RAM on Windows 10. My tournaments are smaller in size (less than 30 players) and I now lock the screen on the tournament screen. If there is anything I can do / test to help out... I'd be happy to.

apologies... typo

if (rank <= 15, log((n+1)/r),0)

Had the parenthesis in the wrong place.

Corey was able to help me get on with my top n calculations.  If I understand your request, you give points to the top 15 finishers in any given tournament.

I would think you need to modify your points calculation based on that criteria.

points = (if rank <= 15, log((n+1)/r), 0)

That should only give points to the top 15 players.
With each tournament keeping it's own score, and if you have player tracking turned on, then it would update the total points for a particular player based on their points for that particular season. <- sure hope that made sense.

I certainly hope this is proper advice.

Help Me / Re: Formula help please. Thank you in advance.

For 20 players, would first get 100?

Can you create a quick chart for what you expect with 10 players, 20 players, and 6 players?

Help Me / Re: ToC consideration(s) and configuration

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did look at Rake as a way to keep track, and stopped because I thought it applied to every player. I will revisit and see if I can get it to be player by player, or at least understand it better.
w/r/t the summation, that's great!

Thanks again Corey, you really have made a truly great product.

Help Me / Re: TOC Setup Starting Stacks

So, yet another option... How do you qualify your ToC? Points, Wins, Other?
I am curious to know... maybe I should do it differently.   The whole reason I went with points, and then limiting to the top n scores, was because not everyone could make every tournament. If they showed up, and paid, for ~ half the tournaments, then they still had a fighting chance.

Apologies for the late reply.

A player must play 'x' of the potential 'n' tournaments within a year.
In our case, for this upcoming year, it will be 7 of the 12 potential (one per month).
Only the best 'y' (same minimum as 'x', but if it could be variable, that'd be cool too)  points finishes get summed.
From there, only the top 10 players (again, this could change) play in the ToC, but we are looking at a single table.
I hope that isn't too complicated and it answers your questions.

I would like tTD to be able to track those that are willing to compete (not all my guys are because the extra money is 'tight') And if they are "in" the running, then they have a 'leaderboard'.

As an aside, I know of another group, that tracks true "Champions" and at the end of their season, only people that have "won" a tournament qualify, regardless of points. I guess there are at least two models here. One that is a true ToC, and one that is a 'points leaders' tournament. Just food for thought.

Help Me / ToC consideration(s) and configuration
« on: December 16, 2015, 06:49:57 PM »
First off, I am not sure if this should go under suggestions, or this topic, but in case I missed something that already exists... here I am.

So, we run a monthly tournament, and most of the players are interested in contributing a specific amount, instead of a 'rake', each month that helps them qualify for a year end Tournament of Champions. The concept is more of a 'point totals' tournament, but we just call it ToC. Out of a 12 tournament schedule, you _must_ play at least 9 tournaments to qualify, and your top 7 point finishes count. What I am looking for is a way to designate a player as being part of the particular year's competition. Right now, I do this by hand, and will continue to do so, but if the software already allows it, or can in the future, that'd be great.  I guess the question part is "Is there already a way to do this?" and the suggestion part is "Can this be added?"
I already keep separate seasons for each year. I am trying to then 'tag' players that are contributing each month, and not charge those that do not. To add a wrench to this... we did have one player last year that committed to playing, and 3 tournaments in decided to back out for the year.

Well, there is a strong chance that it is the VM. It is an old Win XP image, and as I step through troubleshooting, I am finding some issues with the datastore. I have increased the RAM and Processor count, but sadly, it is a 32bit build, so it really _may_ not help. I am in the process of building a new machine, I will do my best to reply back and let you know what I find. Thank you for indulging my issue and providing feedback.

Just the main clock, but I will say, the functions keys were also not behaving "normally". F2 brought up the seating chart, and then the tournament, and then nothing. Once the seating chart was only 2 players long and the screen was not completely visible. It truly was odd. The small clock in the upper left hand side did continue to update correctly.

Thanks Stuart. I will certainly look into the VM being the issue. I did not think that TD would bog down (yes, I know it is virtual, so YMMV) an 3GHz w/ 3GB RAM vm. This is VMWare ESX 5 and it is the only Windows machine running there. The rest are small Linux boxes that do DNS, and local development work only, so they are not typically taxed during tournaments (unless I get busted early). I will fiddle with it and see what I can get to happen. Maybe setting some 'reservation' memory/CPU would be a good start.

Thanks again.

I run TD from a virtual machine, and use a laptop to display the tournament over a VNC connection. Tonight, after upgrading to the latest version, and the most recent patches, when I ran the tournament, the clock never updated. We run with 20 minute blinds. I got the 'paused' display flashing, hit the space bar, and the flashing stopped, but the clock never moved. I went to the seating chart, and the small clock in the upper left hand corner (ULC) displayed the proper time. I went back to the Tournament, and it showed the current time, but did not update yet again. I had to run my tournament by looking at the small ULC clock. I had seen this type of behavior in a previous version, somewhere in the 2.x series, but it was working fine in 3.x until today. I tried with different VNC connections, using different types of clients, and all had the same result. The Virtual Machine PC had been rebooted recently as well, due to security updates... Any ideas? Need any other information?
