Corey Cooper:
Is player movement random?  The answer is yes and no.

Because of the different settings and configuration options of the software, all kinds of player movement can occur, but in general, movement falls into one of two categories:  (1) one or more players (usually only 1) are moved to balance the number of players at each table; and (2) one or more (usually only 1) tables are collapsed.

When a balance needs to occur, the software basically finds empty seats that are good candidates to put players in, and finds players that are good candidates to move.  Then they are ranked.  Then from the group of "most moveable" players 1 (or more) players is chosen at random.  Likewise for the destination seat(s).

If you tell the software where the dealer buttons are located, you are reducing the randomness of which players are chosen to move, because the software will do its best to make sure the moved player is an equal number of seats away from the dealer as he was before he was moved.  If there are only 2 seats to choose from to place a player, there are only 2 possible players at each other table that would qualify to move.
