Traveling to England - Looking for games in Pubs?
« on: April 09, 2013, 12:44:37 PM »
Hello:
My darling better half and I will be in England for 9 Days. Our time will be split between York / London / Dorset.

Just wondering if anyone know of any games that we might join in in those areas. Personal recommendations appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bixby (Matt)

seems to be plenty of Redtooth Poker in York;
http://www.redtoothpoker.com/league.asp?postcode=york&submit=Search
(no casinos) there are quite a few casinos in Leeds however which is 30mins away by car (similar time on trains)
Grosvenor Casino, Leeds http://www.grosvenorcasinos.com/local-casinos/leeds
Napoleons Casino, Leeds http://www.napoleons-casinos.co.uk/leeds/

Dorset is rather barren;
theres not much pub poker and no casinos locally, with the closest casinos being in neighbouring Bristol, Somerset (70 miles away)
If you were likely to travel to Bristol you would find Gala Casino has a lot of tournament and cash game poker going on daily

London is the gaming capital of the UK, West End Casinos tend to be high stakes, low volume casinos, whereas the other areas tend to be high volume, low stakes, whatever your choice you will have plenty to pick and chose from, the Grosvenor Victoria Casino is a big name in the poker industry with the Hendon Mob calling it their home.
http://www.grosvenorvictoriacasino.com/ theres also the Casino at the Empire which was home to the WSOPE when it was in London:

P.S. You should visit Scotland instead, it's far cooler ;-)

Regards
Stu

There is likely to be a pub game in Dorset on one of those nights. It's pretty popular around these parts. I'll put the word out tonight and see what I can find out specifically. If you don't mind travelling into neighbouring Somerset, (Yeovil in particular) then you'll find a game on the 9th (Thursday evening) at our club. I used to run a good Tuesday night game until the pub burned down a few months ago! It's on the way back from the ashes though  :)

If you find that there's nothing going, I could easily gather a few good players for a cash game at home.

Thanks. We just got home a couple of days ago from a real whirlwind trip. Fantastic 5 weeks in Europe. We did not manage to play any Poker, but we did get introduced to a game called "Bastard Brag" in a pub in York.
Good times. :)
