Help Me / Re: my load button stopped working
« on: April 16, 2013, 10:54:44 PM »
I just wish there was a way for you to get your preferences file back.

No worries here, as I still have a copy of an older preferences file from prior to 3.1.  I just copied and pasted and viola, all is well.

And I wonder why Windows still had .tdt files associated with version 2.6.b5.  The install of 3.1.1 (and/or 3.0 and/or 3.1) should have updated that association.  I'll have to look into that.

I think I might have an answer for this; it might be something that I did myself.

Within the last couple of weeks, a friend of mine ran his own tournament.  As the tournament progressed, I couldn't help but question the effectiveness of his blinds schedule; at some points it just didn't make sense to me.  I asked him to send me a copy of his tournament file so that I could take a look at it and perhaps make some suggestions on how to improve it.  What I forgot about was that he was running an earlier version of TD (2.6), so when I opened the file directly (outside of TD, of course!), this file had an association to 2.6.  Is it possible that perhaps then all of my tournament files now would have their associations reverted back to 2.6?

For anyone experiencing this issue and willing to help out a little:

Consider it done.  You should have my email by now.

Sorry I haven't been able to follow up on this for you, as I've been quite busy these past few days.

...or find any of my templates, plus my receipt count went back to 1.

I didn't mean to imply that TD made any of these changes; I do indeed understand that it will not do that.  Plus I was able to find all of my saves and template files when I went outside of the program.  The problem was occurring when I tried to access those files from inside the program.  Nevertheless, it did indeed happen, but I did make something of a discovery today.

I was trying to recreate the conditions by which all of this started to happen, and in so doing I recalled trying to load up a previous tournament by loading it up directly from my saves file; that is, instead of launching the program and then loading, I would click the saved file and then the program would launch.  What I discovered is that when this method was used, apparently these saves files were associated with version 2.6.b5, which of course is no longer valid.  When this failed to launch, I then went back to launching TD 3.1.1 from my desktop shortcut, and apparently this was where the preferences file was altered, or more likely, was now going to a default preference file?  Naturally, this now had all of my settings reset, and my receipt counter was now showing 1 again.  So at least now I know that I have to reassociate my saved tournament files to TD 3.1.1

Is this making any sense at all?

I think I'm going to try to reload IE10 again and see what happens when I have the time, as I still have to see if my receipts will render correctly.

Well, Corey, add my name to the list...

I discovered this today (I'm starting a touranment in less than an hour!) when, for some odd reason, something possessed me to print out a receipt from a prior tournament, and found that it printed incorrectly.  I went to the source file and it was rendered incorrectly on screen as well.  Then when I tried to load the tournament I had previously created for today, I found that I had the same problem that Dasonger reported earlier.  Not only could I not load, I couldn't save, save as, or find any of my templates, plus my receipt count went back to 1.  Soooo, I went back to IE 9 too, and all is well.  I also copied my preferences file from a previous backup.

FYI, I run on Windows 7.  Thanks for all of your hard work!  (and now I can run my tournament today, and hopefully win!)

General Discussion / Re: Formula Assistance
« on: February 10, 2012, 03:48:42 PM »
You would want the formula to be something like this:

sqrt(((n *bc ) * (bc / tc))) / (r + 1 )

I have been using Dr. Neau's formula for six years now, and essentially, Magic fubu nailed it.

However, let me throw something out there that I encountered when we instituted a bounty chip at our tournaments...

When I used the formula sqrt(((n *bc ) * (bc / tc))) / (r + 1 ) as originally conceived, I found that when players purchased the optional bounty chip (which could also be purchased during a rebuy), those players were having the cost of the chip added to their buy-in total, and thus were being penalized for buying the chip.  This came to light when we had a situation when at the end of one tournament, we actually had a player who didn't purchase a bounty chip get a higher point total in a lower finishing position than a player who had purchased a chip with a higher finishing position.  This occurred because of the use of the "total cost" variable in the formula.  Naturally, this was not my intention at all when we put the bounty chip into play, so I changed it slightly to this:

sqrt((n*bc)*(bc/(bc+rc)))/(r+1)

Whereby "total cost" is replaced with "buy-in cost" plus "rebuy cost"

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but I just thought that I'd share my experience with you.

Hey,Jody, this is really cool!  I would love to add this to my layout!

I'm having a bit of a problem with the customize feature, however.  When I click the button, a blank screen comes up, or another window that says the link is broken.  Have you experienced this?  I tried disabling my pop-up blocker, to no avail...

Suggestions / Re: receipts
« on: December 31, 2011, 08:39:42 PM »
I have created a folder for each tournament and all files from that tournament are saved in that folder. The tournament for Dec 30 is in the December/30/AM folder along with all the receipts. We hit over 100 players on occasion and when a player comes back and says I lost my receipt I have to go into HIstory from the game tab and find out what time he bought in, go to the December/30/AM folder and, with the Date Created column showing find the time that corresponds to the buy-in time, open it and re-print it. When you have a line of people in front of you time is not a luxury. If I could skip the History search alone it would save quite a bit of time.

Yeah, I hear ya.  I was thinking that might be your case after I posted my response.  That would certainly be be tedious in your case.

Here's an idea; can you print the receipt on a sticker and make the players wear it?  (I'm joking, of course...:D)

I don't know if this is going to help you or not...

What I do is have a receipt folder on my desktop, and send the TD receipts to that folder.  That way I can access them rather quickly if I need to.  Sometimes I experience a problem during the initial printing of receipts (a problem that I have not been able to correct as of yet!), so I'll go to the receipts folder, open the receipt on IE9, and print it out that way.  I know it's not the fastest way to accomplish things, but it is a workaround that does work.

Help Me / Re: Potential Bug?

Well, here's what I did do...

I went one-by-one to different restore points on my comp, some successful, some not, until I went prior to the install of TD3.  After that successful restore, naturally I had to reinstall TD3.  When I checked it this time, I can now get to the property screens, and everything now seems to be OK.  I'm sorry I didn't get to try your last suggestion before I did this, however.

Corey, I don't know if you recall, but I did start a thread on November 4 ( http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=3124.msg14689#msg14689 ) in which I was having an periodic script problem involving the printing of receipts.  I did follow your suggestion about Googling the error, which in turn I did find some Microsoft suggestions.  These I tried with no noticible change, but when I went back to it later, the receipt problem disappeared, so I was wondering if a fix that I made may have caused this error I was having with the Properties screens.

I know I'm grasping at straws, but one never knows....

I'm going to have to try printing receipts again and see if that problem has come back again.  At any rate, I'm going to keep my eyes open with this Properties problem to see if conditions make it reoccur.

OK still trying to go back to different restore points on my comp.  One-by-one, until I go back to the initial install of TD3.  Maybe something happened along the way that affected the way the Screen Settings is behaving.

Happened again, this time with this error message (which is slightly different):

'this.getElement(...)' is null or not an object (LayoutTab, TournamentPage: 1)
 at openDialog(SettingsDialog)
 at SettingsDialog.openDialog()
 at Bootstrap.init_OpenSettingsDialog()
 at Bootstrap.initSequence()

Don't know if this changes anything, but I thought I should report it anyway.

Downloaded TD3 on my other laptop; it works fine on that one.

With your permission, I'm going to download TD onto another computer that I have; I'd like to see if the same thing happens there, too.  Maybe I can learn something there.

Does the same thing happen when you select "Screen Properties" from the context menu when you are viewing the Tournament screen (F2)?

What happens when you press the "Properties" button in the "Screen Controls" section on the Layout tab?

Yes, it happens on the Tournament screen (and the Player Rankings screen, and the Blinds screen...).

When I press the "Properties" button in the "Screen Controls" section on the Layout tab, the same thing happens as well.  It is when it happens here that the error screen shows up (this is the only instance in which the error screen shows; it doesn't happen when Properties is selected on the context menu.

I just tried an earlier restore point on my comp; no change there.  It still behaves the same way.

Hey Corey; thanks for the prompt reply.

I just tried running everything again, and still the same result.  It even does it on your default layout, and every other layout that I've loaded (of which I have many)...

I also tried your suggestion about launching the Task Manager and ending the program.  While I was able to end TD doing this, I still cannot lauch TD again without doing another reboot.

Sorry I can't be of much more help regarding this.  I'm going to keep messing around with this some more to see what happens.  I'm also going to look into resetting to another restore point and see if that helps.

Ditto on your patch fixes; this is indeed working out great!

Thanks again.

Help Me / Potential Bug?

Hi Corey.

I've just experienced something that I think you should be aware of; perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

I was just reading Timmer's last topic entitled, "Is this new?", and he mentioned something about the ability to add background on the player rankings and blinds pages, etc.  Me, being a curious sort, thought that I would check it out.  I went over to the Player Rankings page, right clicked and selected "Properties".  Not only did the properties not show up, but I now could not navigate away from that screen.  I also could no longer right click, or call up the settings.  So for all intents and purposes, the program kinda froze.  The only way that I could shut it down was to close the program through Windows on the bottom of the screen ("Close window").

Also, when I shut TD down and restarted it, I went to the Layout tab, clicked Properties, and the same thing happened.  This time, I got an error message:

'this.getElement(...)' is null or not an object (LayoutTab, SeatingChartPage: 1)
 at openDialog(SettingsDialog)
 at SettingsDialog.openDialog()
 at SettingsDialog.enterTab()
 at Hotkey.handleCommonHotkeyActions(Hotkey.Binding)
 at GameWindow.hotkey()
 at GameWindow.hotkeyHandler()

After this happened, I could no longer launch TD, and would now need to reboot my computer to get it to run again.

Any thoughts?

Update:  This seems to be happening on any screen when I right click and try to go to that item's properties.

Help Me / Problem with printing receipts
« on: November 04, 2011, 05:08:45 PM »
Hi.

I just ran a mock tournament using TD3, just to see if everything worked OK.  I do like a lot of the new features with this update, and after some tweaking here and there, everything seemed to be fine.  As always, another outstanding job Corey!

The only problem that I have encountered is when I'm printing receipts.  While most of the receipts will print normally, occassionally I will receive an error message.  In a tournament of anywhere between 15-30 players, this will happen around 4 or 5 times.

Here's the message that I see:

An error has occurred in the script on this page

Line: 295
Char: 1
Error: Call was rejected by callee.
Code: 0
URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

After closing the error message, I would then need to go to the receipts folder and then print the affected receipt manually.

I also would see this message every now and then while running 2.5.12, and also with 2.6.5 Beta.

I have a feeling this might not be a TD problem at all, but rather an IE thing.  Anyway, I thought I would post something here in case anyone had any thoughts on this...
