Beta Testing / Re: 3.4 beta 2
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:42:05 PM »
I don't think going back to 3.3 will help
In the time I've had v3.3 (since release!) it has NEVER crashed or frozen (it's been a bit slow on occasions..).
In the month or so I've used 3.4b2, it has frozen five times  :(
My screen transitions/layout etc haven't changed since v3.3 and screen changes/transitions are approx. 3 minutes apart!
Any chance of including some debugging to the event log to help in finding the miscreant code?!

 :( :( :(
v3.4 beta 2 has let me down once again..
This time it froze part way through a screen transition, interestingly right clicking on the frozen display brought up a dialog for TD selections, but any selections weren't satisfied.
From the task manager the mshta process was >1Gb of Private working set memory.. and INCREASING even whilst frozen.
The only way out was to kill the process and re-start TD.

I've had VERY similar instances of freezing on 3.4 B2 after approx. 4.5hrs of operation, so I'd be inclined to suggest that there might be a memory leak somewhere!
The problem I now have, is that I'd like to go back to v3.3 (which NEVER crashed/froze) but the tournament files aren't compatible..
Any easy fix to allow 3.4B2 files to revert to v3.3???

I'm using Win 7 x64

Help Me / Re: my load button stopped working
« on: June 20, 2016, 05:59:57 PM »
Corey,

I might be about to try to "teach Granny to suck eggs..."  :P, but...
In a number of recent applications I've produced I've hit very similar "odd" issues as reported in previous posts which turned out to be:

[Egg sucking mode: ON]
What IE emulation is TD using?
The following might be of use: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/patricka/2015/01/12/controlling-webbrowser-control-compatibility/

i.e. Force the IE emulation to a known version.
[Egg sucking mode: OFF]

Hi Corey,

Well.. I finally decided to try the beta...

All seemed good right up until TD froze..  :(

The point at which everything just froze was when the "Suggest Player Movement" dialog appeared, the mouse pointer continually changed icon from busy to arrow etc., no dialog buttons were active and the TD application became unresponsive (timer stopped etc) - the only escape was to use task manager and zap the TD process.. then restart and "rebuild" the last state of the tournament  :-X

TD is normally so very reliable.. in the 4 years or so that I've used it, this is the FIRST time it has let me down.

My TD system, is a virtual machine (VMWARE) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) with all Microsoft patches up to 23/04/2016.

My observations on v3.4 beta 2:
1) the mouse does seem to change more frequently between pointer and the busy icon and it seems the TD application is "busier" than in previous versions.
2) keyboard actions are occasionally ignored and it sometimes needs a couple of attempts to get things to work (I'm used to typing ahead when buying in players etc.. I can't do this now as I have to wait for dialogs to render and display etc).

Let me know it there's anything evidential I can provide you.. otherwise i'll be returning to v3.3 !!

Wish I knew what was causing this.  I would be very interested to know if moving back to 3.3 definitively fixed it.
Reverted back to v3.3, ran a tournament tonight and had no issues.. none of the mouse pointer rapidly changing between icons.. and no lockup. I'll keep you informed of any developments!
Keep up the good work Corey, it is appreciated.  :)

I know its a cliché, but "Google" is your friend..
There are many useful tools out there, here's a couple:

Help Me / Re: TD slowing/hanging and/or crashing
« on: September 06, 2014, 04:09:22 AM »
Another 'gotcha' regarding the hanging/slowup for European users is thanks to the European Court!  >:(

Make sure you have removed the 'Browser Choice' KB976002, *AND* also make sure that its entry is completely removed from the scheduled tasks - the entry gets executed EVERY time an IE process is created.
From the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools and select the TaskScheduler.
Remove the 'CreateChoiceProcessTask' entry.

I noticed this after suffering the slowdown/hangups, hitting CTRL-Alt-del and selecting the Task Manager showed the browser choice task being continually created/killed and taking upwards of 80% of the CPU.

Beta Testing / Vanishing settings with Extended Display
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:29:05 AM »
Hi Corey,

I've just started "playing" with v3.3b1 and using an extended display.. all seems to work as advertised on the tin (game window on extended display and settings and dialogs etc on the main display  :)).
However, if I select any of the built-in screens (seating plan, rounds, player movement etc) for display on the game window, and then subsequently want to get back to the main tournament display by pressing F2 (tournament), the settings on the main display vanish giving an empty desktop  :( .. pressing F1 gets the settings back - is this expected behaviour? or am I being dumb and there is there a hidden setting somewhere which will persist the settings on the main screen when using extended displays? (or both of the former!!)

Help Me / Re: 10 player final table
« on: November 21, 2013, 05:23:12 PM »
All good work-arounds.. but with such a wonderful full featured application as Tournament Director (thanks Corey!!) why not make it a seamless operation (I hate displaying TD director 'backroom' stuff to a room full of players), i.e. build in new functionality so that you can define a 'final table' in your tables which has as many seats as you define, you have the choice of using the table throughout the tournament (if the number of seats matches all your other tables) or reserve exclusively for final table, once the number of remaining players in the tournament reaches the number of defined seats of your 'final table' everyone gets moved to the table...

Beta Testing / Re: 3.2B3 - Receipt.html

Hi Corey,

Any chance you can add the "description" and possibly the "league" and "season" tokens to the receipt handling.. ?

Beta Testing / Re: 3.2B3 - Receipt.html
« on: February 21, 2013, 06:32:23 PM »
Ok, thanks for the explanation.. this could be a gotcha for people who have been using previous versions of TD.

I sensibly made a backup of my current datastore...

I installed the beta version of TD and then copied my existing receipt.html from my backup datastore into the new data store - this does not put a new timestamp onto the file (retains original creation date/time) and therefore gets zapped everytime TD starts up (as it has an older date stamp!).

If I edit the receipt.html file and re-save, it gets a new timestamp (newer than the TD install) and everything is OK.

Keep up the good work  :)

Beta Testing / 3.2B3 - Receipt.html
« on: February 21, 2013, 12:38:12 PM »
Hi Corey,

Just been trying receipts and came up with an oddity.

If I edit the receipt.html in the \users\xxx\documents\the tournament director 2\data\templates which I believe is set by default as the receipt file to use for the tournament (Receipts template in the preferences is set as "<datastore>\templates\receipt.html"), then every time I produce a receipt as a result of a print receipt action, the receipt file I have edited gets overwritten with the default receipt.html file from the install folder... ???

If I change the filename of my receipt file and reference it in the receipts preferences, then it works fine...

Have I missed something?

Thanks Corey for such a complete answer  :) - I'll email you the tournament the next time I see the scenario.
