tournament idea
« on: September 06, 2008, 09:44:16 AM »
Every once in a while i will have a tournament for $55.00 or more buy in and each player gets $5,500 of poker chips $50.00 for the pot and 5.00 for me. you know for food, drinks ect.......

but what i also do is sell 50/50 tickets------------ 1 for $5.00 or 3 for $10.00 and give tournament chips away for the winners.

Example:

1st place 5,000 additional chips
2nd place 3,000 additional chips
3rd place 1,500 additional chips
and so on depending how many players i get.

i usually have around 30 + players when i have bigger tournaments and at least 15 - 20 players buy the 50/50 raffel.............. it just puts a few extra bucks in your pocket

My group members would have a hissy fit! Someone could start off with double the stack if they get lucky? Those on a tight budget will be at a disadvantage.

They might go for it if the top prize was maybe 10% of the start stack, but no way 100% more chips.

What I would do is lower the amount of chips each player receives ($1,500 or so).  After the first hour or hour and a half (next color up); let them do an add-on for the same price and the same amount of chips.  The pot will increase and the players will not feel like one person will have an advantage.

I agree, except I do a double stack for an add on.  This is what my players felt was right and after checking some rebuy structures from the WSOP, I agreed with them.
